Trump: 'We Have To Do Something' About Violent Video Games, Movies

I think it's more relevant to "Gaming" than "OT", likely just a way to distract from stricter gun regulation push:

In a White House meeting held with lawmakers on the theme of school safety, President Donald Trump offered both a direct and vague call to action against violence in media by calling out video games and movies. "We have to do something about what [kids are] seeing and how they're seeing it," Trump said during the meeting. "And also video games. I'm hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is shaping more and more people's thoughts." Trump followed this statement by referencing "movies [that] come out that are so violent with the killing and everything else." He made a suggestion for keeping children from watching violent films: "Maybe they have to put a rating system for that." The MPAA's ratings board began adding specific disclaimers about sexual, drug, and violent content in all rated films in the year 2000, which can be found in small text in every MPAA rating box.

This could backfire on Trump, actually. A lot of his younger supporters aren't likely to be down with any attempts to censor their games and movies.

1) 'Maybe they have to put a rating system for that' - if only there was one, huh?

2) I'm generally for complete creative freedom, so violence, just like sexual content of any kind, shouldn't be banned from games, however ...

3) I absolutely welcome a discussion about video game violence. Sexual content is the devil, but violence knows no boundaries (I still remember video game journalists freaking out in celebrations when the first trailer for The Last of Us was shown and the audience started celebrating when Noel shot a human enemy in the face with a shotgun - disgusting.

4) Beyond that, there's an even more important debate to be had: rating systems are a joke, and parents refuse to take any responsibility. This needs to change. Ratings should be binding, not just an orientation help for parents. And said parents should start caring for their child, caring for what it consumes.

Not happening because Republicans don't have 60 votes in the Senate and there's no way to make this somehow budget related.

Trump just saying dumb things like he always does.

Someone ask Trump if he's ever tried using the parental controls video game consoles already have pre-packaged into the device. Has anyone?

Employees get instantly fired for selling M rated games to people under 17 in America. The ESRB has Secret shops inside GameStop. I worked with a guy who got fired because of that back in 2007.
The warnings for violence and sex are there. The sad part is, the people committing these horrible acts are hurting people who could very well be the next person you played with in Call of Duty or Gears of War. I don't buy this realistic violence crap.

How about better parenting? Games and movies already have ratings on them. Its not our fault if dumb ass parents or ones that just don't care buy their 6 year old call of duty or gta.

So him talking about shooting someone in the face on 5th ave and not losing any votes has nothing to do with this?

The fact that the shooter had picture on his facebook wearing a MAGA hat has no influence?

Hell, I play shooters all damn day...yet somehow, I'm no more inclined to shoot anybody than I was as a 5 year old child playing with legos.

Someone please impeach this fool.

I've been for banning violent video games for years.

Especially after I read that Jack the Ripper killed all those hookers after playing GTA.

The man has no shame, stealing one of Clinton's pet policies like that.

I'm sure it'll amount to nothing. White noise from a man who generates a lot of it.

Grumpy see, Grumpy do.
Quite right, I dread reading the morning news just incase there's been another horrific incident of people murdering each other by throwing Police Academy box sets at one another.

LOL, people pushing for 'something to be done' may be getting what they wish for. They won't be repealing the 2nd Amendment but how about some censorship instead?

Why is he blaming video games? We have violent games all over the world yet none of them went off on a shooting spree. Maybe better gun control is the answer.

Holy crap! I fell asleep for 10 minutes and I woke up In the 90's!
Well, at least this means Jennifer Aniston isn't wearing a bra at the moment.

So it's not the massive amount of easy accesible weapons, but the videogames the ones who are guilty?

Seems legit.

I guess America loves their guns. They willing point their finger at everything expect their out control gun control.

In my opinion normal civilian should never ever own guns. To me people are less predictable than wild animal, even a person with no mental health issues can suddenly go crazy with no real reason. Especially in America that people just always pissed off and angry all the time.

Where I live I'm always being told "you need a gun to protect yourself", "you live by yourself so get a gun." Even the guy that sold me my car and house insurance was telling me to get a gun because he has one.
Not because I live in a dangerous area (rarely do I hear/read about anything serious around here, usually it's some idiot that shot himself, go figure), but just because "it makes you safe". None of them have ever actually even used there's for anything other than target practice, yet I'm still constantly being told to get one just because they've convinced themselves everyone needs one.
