If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
While this is largely due to their cloud business and little to do with Xbox, still good to see them doing well.

So that explains how competition is good. All the great PS4 exclusives forced Xbox to match them in quality and quantity of games in order to stay successful.

Oh wait.

That's why they announced 5 studios at E3 that are either new or became 1st party, so yes, the PS 4 domination is putting them to the test. Better late than never but unlike Nintendo who folded like a cheap suit with the Wii U, the Xbox One is still getting lots of support (3rd party) . They, much like Nintendo, are also trying to be more competitive next round. They got the hardware turned around and it's services, now they are trying to fill the much needed void of 1st party.

Unless of course you'd rather we be back to the arrogant Sony who thought a $600 game console that made life difficult for developers is the better scenario.

This is really "teed" up to bring out the best of Gaf.

I had no idea that MS was worth as much as they are. They have been crushing it and their market value dwarfs anyone else in the games market for now so it's nice to see them put that money into some studios.

kinda funny theres a thread on Sony stock being highest for 10 years or summit and loads of praise in there, or there was when I last checked a few hours ago. similar post for Microsoft and its mostly negative comments

as gamers we need both companies to do well and compete well with each other to get the best for us

This isn't just Microsoft, the whole NASDAQ 100 is doing very well today. My whole watchlist is green except Netflix, which is down 2% as of right now.

Microsoft typically does well in the week leading up to their earnings report (July 19):

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4186105-patterned-momentum-signal-trigger-microsoft

  • Microsoft has shown momentum one-week before earnings for 3-years.
  • That strength of momentum pre-earnings is amplified, empirically, by the prior quarter's earnings move.
  • All of the conditions have been met that have historically meant a fruitful one-week trading window Microsoft bulls.

Windows 10 is a shitty OS that constantly has problems and its updates keep making it worse. Specifically the new update completely screwed my borderless windowed gaming and I'm forced now to only use Fullscreen which makes it very difficult to Alt-Tab that sometimes crashes my games. I'm disabling Windows Updates again, this time permanently and I don't care about the security risk. Btw for anyone interested in doing the same disabling the windows service isn't enough because Microsoft re-enables it without asking your damn permission, you need a program to do it now. What a great company...

Skype has become complete trash since Microsoft bought it

Xbox has the exact same exclusives it had a decade ago

How this company keeps having so much success is a complete mystery to me. hecantkeepgettingawaywithit.gif

Don't get me wrong I still want Microsoft in the console business because without them Sony becomes a monopolistic asshole. That still doesn't mean I don't think they're an absolutely terrible company though. I wish other more competent companies joined the industry to save us from Microsoft and keep Sony in check which btw has adopted all of Microsoft's bad habits like microtransactions last gen and paid online this one.

Lol yep. And its kinda funny too, the thread title was "Sony's stock hits an all-time high" when it reality is was only a 10-year high and changed by a mod to reflect just that.

MS has been on a huge roll on all fronts. Impressive.

Off the top of my head...

Microsoft Office suite, now a subscription service, is firmly entrenched...everywhere
Their cloud business is apparently second only to Amazon Web Services now in terms of size

Sony are equally as bad as Microsoft, they want to make money its that simple. Now when this Gen started Microsoft messed it up big time and have spent the whole of this Gen fixing what was wrong with xbox and have added some great things, Sony started off this Gen exactly as they should and had a more powerful console but along the way they have done anti gamer things like no backwards compatibility or no cross gen.

I know people will disagree with that but each company has made mistakes its just Sonys have not lost the console race this Gen

In my twenty years on the web this is maybe the most salty comment I've ever read.

And I have read a lot.

To be honest Sony have acted like assholeels for a long time now, they just don't get flak for it. People who had payment problems got their accounts banned, support is second to none, no possible name change still and arrogant about cross play.

I think gamepass is a good look for Microsoft. I got it and I don't even own a XB1. Use it for my PC but it's slowly making XB1X more desirable.

Those "bad habits" are the consumers' fault. You don't want that? Don't buy Sony (or anyone else's same) products.

They tried to pull the same shit on pc, and guess what happened.

Threads like these really show how clueless most gamers (or consumers in general) are.

Let me try!

"The link to gaming here is fairly limited. Microsoft has a ton of super successful business units that are firing on all cylinders. As far as the Sony thread goes, I think it was 100% appropriate for the Games forum, since Sony has the PlayStation brand going for it...and little else."

Trying to compare the cap size a company to the quality of product is like saying IKEA furniture is obviously of higher craftsmanship than a Amish master wood workers items.

CAP size =/= Competitive advantage

How is it consumers' fault, consoles are an oligopoly and when these companies basically copy paste each other's dirty tactics to screw us consumers have no choice. Personally I don't have PS+ exactly for that reason and play multiplayer games only on steam but I don't expect everyone to be as stubborn as me.

Well, that's exactly what I do too. I understand though that it's hard, especially if someone else is paying for your games.

Sony had a great advantage but decided to go after the money. Gamers should have said fuck you, if free online was important to them. Apparently, it isn't.

Sony's imaging business is firing on all cylinders.

Great. Literally EVERYTHING they make is absolute shit (XBX is a turn in the right direction, hardware wise) and the stocks tell the penny pinchers that everything they're doing is spot on!

What a system!

ever since their failed Xbox One reveal they've done everything perfect, they've been listening a lot to their consumers, something Sony hasn't done in years cus they can afford to be arrogant.

Your comment is pure fanboyism.
