Movies you have watched way too many times

Do you have movies that you watch repeatedly? I'm talking like 5+ times. For me most movies are a one and done thing, but there are a handful that I've watched countless times over the years.

My list:

The Fellowship of the Ring is hands down my most watched movie ever. It's like comfort food. Great story, beautifully shot and has a peerless sense of adventure. I enjoy the sequels too but Fellowship is a touch on the light side overall and very much plays out like a D&D game. Boromir is forever the ultimate badass.

The Rock was my jam back in middle school. Used the watch the VHS at least once a week, it was that good. It was my first Michael Bay movie and wasn't complete trash. What a magical time that was. Also highly quotable and had Nic Cage in his prime.

Remember when James Cameron movies weren't hacky garbage like Avatar? Yeah, me too. Aliens was that movie I watched repeatedly as a kid and still watch occasionally now. Holds up well despite its age. Also, #strongfemalecharacter done right. Hicks the GOAT btw.

Post yours if you got em.

Akira. Too many times to count. Sometimes I'll even boot it up just to watch the first biker battle and then fall asleep.

giphy.gif

Interstellar. It has flaws, but as a sci-fi flick it's the best I've seen in years. Watched it twice at the IMAX and I regret nothing. Watched it countless times since then. That music and visual design is just... Kubrick-tier.

giphy.gif

The Seven Samurai. If any of you have a dad (or are this way yourself) who loved old WW2 movies like Patton, Bridge Over River Kwai, Big Red One, etc. this is my "Patton". Pretty much a flawless movie if there ever was one. I watch it at least once a year.

For whatever reason as I kid, I watched Forrest Gump basically every single day after school before bed.

Then at some other point in my life I did the same for Austin Powers.

...basically why I'm so amazing.

Lord of The Rings Trilogy for sure. Holds a special place in my heart. I'm dreading the upcoming tv series.

Too many times? Probably Temple of Doom.
When I was a kid in the 80's I would watch this movie on VHS all the time when I stayed at a family friends place. Even though there were parts that made me squirm (the monkey brains, the insects, the crushing ceiling, the heart ripping etc) I kept watching anyway.
I am still burned out on it - but its a good movie.

Harry Potter 2. Shaun of The Dead. At least those are the ones that come to mind.

Also thanks for the reminder that I need to finish Akira.

The Shawshank Redemption
V for Vendetta
The Matrix (first one)
There Will Be Blood
Amelie
Gladiator
Office Space

I don't get tired of those

Home alone is the most favorite film of my Christmas

It has been a family tradition of ours to watch that every Christmas. Although my wife and I recently split, so I'm not sure we'll continue that tradition. :pie_savoring: (We're on good terms, but yeah, that may go by the wayside.)

Big Trouble in Little China is the only movie I've probably watched more times than anybody should have.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I think I've watched the entire Harry Potter series (8 movies) at least once a year since the last one came out in 2011. I love them (and the books) to bits and I'm always catching new things.

This year I got the 4K versions which are awesome.

When I was younger, I rewatched movies much more frequently than I do today. I'm torn why that is. Were movies more magical back to me back then so I easily got hooked on them? Or is it because I had to buy movies I wanted to get my monies worth?

I've probably seen The Goonies 20 times (the movie of my youth) and Boogie Nights 10 times (the movie of my adolescence).

The only movies as an adult I've watched multples times are by masters of their craft like Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson, or holiday classics (like It's a Wonderful Life). Everything else is one and done.

Ace Ventura, OG Star Wars, Dumb & Dumber, but School of Rock might be my favourite. I laugh out loud at so many parts, the Legend of the Rent song performance is, well, legendary.

Dewey: Look, the first thing you do when you start a rock band is talk about your influences. That's how you figure out what kind of band to be. So who do you like? Blondie?
Marta: Christina Aguilera.
Dewey: Who? No! Come on. What? You, Shortstop.
Leonard: Puff Daddy.
Dewey: Wrong. (😂😂😂) Billy?
Billy: Liza Minnelli?
Dewey: What are you...? You guys! This project is called "Rock Band". I'm talking about bands that rock. Led Zeppelin. [the class gives him blank stares]Don't tell me you guys have never got the Led out. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant? Ring any bells? What about Sabbath? ...AC/DC? ...Motörhead? Oh, what do they teach in this place?!

The Legend of the Rent, cause why not:

Dewey: Okay! I will sing it for you, just, uh, let me get in the zone, I wasn't planning on unveiling it, but I will sing it. Teeth of the tongue, and the lips. (performs vocal exercise) Okay, it starts off...a dark stage, and then a beam of light. and then you can see me and my guitar. (imitating his guitar) Dew-neew-dew-neew... "In the end of time, there was a man who knew the road, and the writing was written on the stone." And then a thin layer of fog comes in around my ankles. Roadies, that means dry ice, we're gonna talk about this later. "In the ancient time, an artist led the way, but no-one seemed to understand." Chimes, Freddy. "In his heart he knew, the artist must be true, and the legend of the rent was way past due!" And, Katie, you come in with the bass! (imitating the bass) Rim-bim-bim-bim-bim-beru-beru-bum-bara-bara-bara-bum-bum-bum! "Well, you think you'll be just fine without me, but you're mine! You think that you can kick me out of the band?" And then, Zack, you come in with a face-melter. (imitates the guitar) Rew-new-new-didli-new-didli-new-didli-new! Okay? "Well, there's just one problem there, the band is MINE! How can you kick me out (high pitched) of what is mine?" And then, sh- "Hawaii Five-O". You see that show? Okay. Well, there's a drum solo in it, that goes...shugadugadugaduga! "You're not hardcore, unless you live hardcore" And then, that's where I want the backup singers to be all like, "No, you're not hardcore. (high pitched) No, you're not hardcore! (reverts to normal singing voice) Unless you live hardcore. (imitating backup singers) Unless you live hardcore! (back to his own voice) But the legend of the rent, was way hardcore! BOOM! Big old explosion, some, like, confetti comes down. Anyway, that's all I got so far, it's a work in progress.
Summer: I liked it, Mr. Schneebly. I thought it was really catchy.
Dewey: Thank you.

Edit: Also, Christmas movies every year - Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, A Muppets Christmas Carol, and the original black and white Christmas Carol every Christmas Eve.

Edit: Videos would have been better here I guess, but I'm at work, sorry :D

The only movie that I have seen way too many times would be Beauty and the Beast but even then it has only been like 8 times I believe. Most of my favorite movies have only been seen around 5 times I guess.

This movie never gets old. I swear it can be on tv at any time and I will always watch it.

Just one of my favorites of all time that I can always watch.

I know I got a few other movies I can watch forever. However, these 2 immediately popped up in my head.

Countless really, but the ones I remember the most:
King Kong (1979), Robocop 1, Poltergeist 1, The Goonies, Stand By Me, Gremlins 2, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Lilya for Ever

As for cartoons:
The Lion King, Anastasia, Space Jam, Aladdin, Oliver and Co, Land before Time, Tiny Toons: How I spent my vacation, King and the Mockingbird, Dott and the Kangaroo, Spirited Away, Locke the Superman, Windaria

The Matrix
Titanic
Contact

Sheesh, how could I forget Contact. Seen it so many times and one of my absolute all-time favorites. Brain...slipping. :lollipop_wink_tongue: Still love Titanic too. Seen it many times as well.

I'll never forget what my wife (then-girlfriend) asked me after seeing Titanic in the theater on the way back to the car. We paused before getting in, and she said, staring at me hopefully, "Do you think love like that exists?" ... apparently not. (There was enough room for them both on the board! :pie_wfwt:)

Terminator 2 (and many other Arnold films)
ferris buellers day off
back to the future 1 and 2

And forgot these too. Also Rocky.

The original Star Wars trilogy - and since they've existed Harmys Despecialized Editions. I'm down to once a year, around Christmas. They're mouthwash for the shitty new ones...

The Shining and A Clockwork Orange. I love Kubrick and I've watched these so many times, never boring.

Tron, The Thing, An American Werewolf in London, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Mechanic (the 70's Bronson original).

Do TV movies count, as I watch any Columbo that on tv. It's a drug for sure as every Saturday there's usually two or three episodes on. I stick to the 70's ones though, the late 80's and early 90's aren't anywhere near as good. Robert Culp, Patrick McGoohan and Jack Cassidy made the best villians.

John Wick.

Airplane! (No comedy has surpassed this masterpiece)

The Last of Us. (I regret nothing)

Let's see.

Mortal Kombat: This comes with the caveat that I was a 10-year-old going on a cross-country trip with a small TV/VCR combo to keep hyperactive me entertained during drives. It's not a good movie by any means, but MK was the shit back then(circa 1996) and I thought Sonya Blade was frigging hot. Think she married Pete Sampras later on. Anyway, "MORTAL KOMBAT!"

Armageddon: People can slag off Michael Bay however much they want, I will never get tired of Bruce Willis brandishing a shotgun, Peter Stormare being Peter Stormare, and a pretty moving scene involving Will Patton at the end. Plus, the explosions, baby!

Rounders: I didn't get into cards until I was in college, and not really seriously at that point either, so I saw this much later on. However, I find the dialogues that Damon has with Turturro, Landau and Norton to be a really multifaceted insight into a kid who still doesn't really know what he wants. I can empathize with that, although I'm too much of a chickenshit to actually do what Damon does at the end. Plus, Malkovich's accent is eminently quotable and hilarious.

Good Will Hunting: My favorite movie ever. I think the character of Will symbolizes a lot of us--we have a talent, but do we actually use it fully? Do we want to? Is it OK to just not give a damn and let your potential remain just that?

The Negotiator: Spacey and Jackson are a great combination. It gets a little contrived, but all the characters play their parts well (shout out to Paul Giamatti).

That's some connoisseur shit right there. The MST3K I've watched most is probably Pod People. Can't get enough of that potato eating theatre loving alien. I've also watched the Richard Burton skit from Gamera vs Guiron more times than I can count.

Other than that I think I rewatched stuff a lot more when younger. So original Star Wars trilogy is over 30 times easy.

Then Phantasm II, Return of the Living Dead and Prince of Darkness - many many times in the wee hours half baked. I think ROTL is due another watch soon...

The Empire Strikes Back
Predator
Robocop
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Big Trouble in Little China
Conan: The Barbarian
Ghostbusters

mostly these are movies i had on endless repeat as a kid and going back to them as an adult, they more than hold up, in fact they crap all over modern movies. i put Empire on top cos i can remember as a kid being at a party w my parents and being sat down in front of a TV w other kids to watch Star Wars, and thinking "Oh i've seen this before, this is great!" some instant nostalgia there =)

although the OP title is misleading, i could never watch too much of any of these.

There are some movies that are authentic "zapping-stoppers". Whenever I find them on TV I can't help but to rewind and watch them.
T2, Fight Club, Memento, Aliens, Matrix.

I couldn't possibly list the movies Ive seen 5 plus times, but as for what I have watched the most it has to be Mary Poppins. It isnt my all time favorite but for some reason since I was a kid I have watched it every thanksgiving and christmas. I have easily seen it over 50 times. Don't know what it is about that movie but I just get this urge to watch it around the holidays
