This is the norm and it’s smart on their part. They don’t announce a PC port so people run out and buy a console version. They play red dead online for a while, buy some micro transactions there. Then later down the road announce the pc port with all the bells and whistles. And to be frank not announcing a PC port for launch doesn’t mean it’s not important. I’m sure from a business perspective they are focused on the consoles and don’t really have an interest in spreading themselves thin and detracting from the quality of the game on any platform.
Being primarily a PC player this strategy will work on me. I’ll buy red dead 2 on a console. Play the single player game and then wait for the PC version later on down the road.
Outside of Red Dead Redemption, a good majority of Rockstars games are on PC. Not sure why people are thinking this won’t land on PC.
From all the years of talk about red dead 1 it was a miracle the game even was finished and working on consoles. It makes sense why they didn’t want to port that. And was also a different architectural platform from PS3 and 360 that wasn’t easy to port from.
Also they (The Publisher) said this about a year ago
“The great news is that the PC market is vibrant for us. It’s a great market for us. It’s a big market. It’s a core market in consumers that are highly engaged. It’s a predominantly digital market, which also removes friction in terms of ongoing engagement with a consumer. So, for us, the PC market as a company is very important and very exciting and something we focus on.”
With all sorts of companies embracing PC lately it wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see something of a hint shortly after launch.
One of the recent games that pulled this sort of console then pc release was injustice 2. Didn’t hear anything about PC until well after console release.
Or you don't. Not like I'm going to buy a console simply to play RDR2.
You're right. Unfortunately, Rockstar's double-dipping strategy is very effective on their heavy hitters, and I'm a culprit of that. Like many PC gamers, I'm also planning on buying RDR2 for PS4 this year and the definitive PC version in 2019.
OK, so no RDR2 release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Scarlett confirmed. And the sky is blue, yes thanks pachter we know
I dont know, but the xbox one X version comes really close to being the definitive version, I mean full native 4K and solid 30 fps? What kind of rig would you need for full 4K, HDR and stable 60 fps? lol
What's stopping the game from having Atmos now and what do you mean by "true" HDR?PS5 version 4K at 60 FPS, Audio Atmos HD, True HDR.
The current versions arent doing HDR correctly. What's stopping the game from having Atmos now and what do you mean by "true" HDR?
Dolby Atmos is, if you’re not familiar with it, a so-called ‘object-based’ sound format. This means it can steer individual components in the mix - gunshots, buzzing flies etc - with so much precision that it builds a three-dimensional sound space for the listener to inhabit, rather than just steering the sound around channels of speakers as previous sound systems did. At the moment, Dolby Atmos is available only on Xbox One S and X.What's stopping the game from having Atmos now and what do you mean by "true" HDR?
Not broken just a poor implementation.HDR is broken atm.
So... you don't actually want it to come out for PC?why hasn't the thread title been changed yet. if this never comes out on PC i'm growing another dick
I don't believe anything Rockstar says. I am willing to bet that they will most definitely release a PC version.
Going forward they will be hoping that Red Dead Online brings in the $ and therefore it makes more sense to have it on PS4/XB1/PC. More money for them. Rockstar has most likely made back all the money they spend making RDR2 over the last 8 years in just 3 days.
The only reason they aren't confirming PC version right now is because they want console AND PC owners to go out and buy it for PS4/XB1. When PC version releases they will tempt people to buy it again on PC. Shit, look at GTA V.... PS3/360 were the only confirmed versions then suddenly it was coming to PS4/XB1/PC. They want you to double or even triple dip.
Rockstar/Take Two is a business. Don't be fooled by the fact that they made $720m in 72 hours from RDR2 or $1b in 72 hours from GTAV. They will milk RDR2 for all it's worth. It's been over 5 years since GTA V and they are still milking that to death.
I understand all of that, except I don't think t b HDR is fake, but rather it's poor. However, my post was in response to needing next gen consoles for these things. There is no reason the game can't have that now, so I don't see how these features would need to wait for the PS5.Dolby Atmos is, if you’re not familiar with it, a so-called ‘object-based’ sound format. HDR in RDR2 is fake.
Dat wait tho
Mouse and keyboard controls. I'm too old and spent way to much time not playing on a pad. So it's so bad that pad controls in games with 3D enviorements makes games pretty much unplayable to me. So either RDR2 comes to PC or I won't play it at all, since all the joy would be sucked by pad controls anyway. What does someone get for waiting ?
A new Dark Age in PC gaming has begun.
You are as happy go lucky as me, lol. That dark age began when Rockstar games with clunky control became the most notable releases of the year. Sad but true.
Gaming has been in a serious slump for almost this entire century. I believe that World of Warcraft was the last seminal PC only release and Dark Souls the last seminal release on any platform, and those games are OLD now. We've never gone this long (7 years) without a seminal game. Gaming's in the gutter right now, basically.
I don't know how anyone could have the patience. I think a year wait is a realistic time frame. It took GTAV about 1.5 years to come to PC after the first console release. Rockstar wants to maximize console sales.
What does someone get for waiting ? I guess theoretically PC will have even better graphics +60fps, but damn, the 4k console versions already look amazing. And 30fps has always been adequate for these type of games, it's not a fast twitch FPS. And I think Rockstar games play better on a controller vs a kb+mouse.
This is what will happen and I'm sure there have been others to mention it as well.
Rockstar will release Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PC when the NEW home consoles hit for consumers say anywhere from late 2019 to 2021 time period.
This way Rockstar can re-release the game as a "Definitive Version" touting 4k/60fps to the new consoles along with all the graphical bells and whistles upgrades that will match or come very, very close to the PC version.
Almost everyone will be happy and Rockstar makes a mint from everyone double/triple dipping for the game on the new consoles and PC.
