TV fucking sucks

The worst part of TV for me, hands-down is the talk shows and "comedy." All it is anymore is blatant Liberal agenda and completely unfunny. I miss the days of Jay Leno where he would make actual funny jokes about whoever was in office, and didn't make you feel bad about who you supported. I now know why he retired. He wanted no part of this.

Netflix, Amazon, and my roku keep me set. I don't watch enough to care about having 300 channels.

Definitely this. Plus throw in a digital antenna for whatever else locally and you're good to go.

Cable is definitely pointless these days. Mostly trash anyhow.

Pluto on Roku is reasonably decent, gives you a lot of free channels.

You have my attention. Always heard Sanders show was good and ahead of its time.

yeah its incredible. Gary Shandling plays the narcissist host who dates all of his female guests (including Rosseane Barr, Sharon Stone, Gina Gershon, Laura Dern), Jeffrey Tambor plays his insecure, sniveling sidekick, Rip Torn is the foul-mouthed but very loveable best producer in the world, Jeanene Garafalo as booking talent for the show, Bob Odenkirk as Larry's agent, etc. Judd Apatow wrote some episodes. it's really a who's who of 90s/2000s comedy.

just remember: no flipping!

There’s always something on Netflix, sure it has its share of garbage too, like I saw Justice League recently, wow. How does such a large movie have near $0 going towards SFX?

Even a TV show like Agents of Shield pulls off more great looking SFX on a single episode than Justice League did for the entire movie.

Anyways, there is always plenty to watch on Netflix. I’ve at least 4-5 shows to catch up on still.

I haven't subscribed to cable TV in about 10 years either. Cable TV seems like its dying. Steaming is the future.

Broadcast TV is already dead to me. Can't remember the last time I cared about any prime time network show. Maybe during the last century ? Half the air time is filled with infomercials. It's like they know nobody is watching. On the weekends, NBC broadcasts weird obscure European sports, but nobody shows baseball on regular TV anymore. Most of the political shows I used to watch have become unwatchable in the era of Trump. PBS Newshour, Meet the Press etc. have all jumped the shark. Occasionally, I will still watch Fox News Sunday via youtube.

It's pretty funny how once "respectable" journalistic outlets have thrown all that out the window in the present day.

Classic Conan O'Brien was some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen in my life, but now he's a knucklehead the same as the rest of them.

It's the whole Ivory Tower thing, rich people like that are out of touch with the average American and don't understand how much people have been hurting, they think it's only about racism.

its hard to believe that I am spending $160 USD a month on it.

There are some programming that I do like though.

I don't believe its as much about being out of touch as much as it is a job requirement for them. Written or unwritten.

Traditional cable TV is a dying relic as more and more people move to streaming for their content. As for TV shows in general, well I strongly believe in Sturgeons Law. 90% of everything is crap, regardless of decade. Only the 10% of shows/games/whatnot at any given moment will be truly good and looked fondly on, while most everything else will be forgotten or disliked.

Cobra is on tonight!

I own that already, great movie.

In fact, 80s/early 90s action movies are where it's at. I went through a binge of them recently.

Lone Wolf McQuade is pretty solid as well.

Missing in Action is great as well, and a fair amount of JCVD movies, like Blood Sport.

To be fair, it's so easy to make fun of Trump's tweets. Even conservatives like Bob Corker and Ben Shapiro have laughed at them.

It does get old though. I don't watch Colbert and Trevor Noah that often anymore.

I'm all for Trump jokes. It's beyond that though. The shows are no longer humor as much as they are propaganda.

I don't know how anyone can pay 50-200$ a month for cable TV. Haven't had Cable in over a decade. With the internet there are so many ways to watch shows that you want to watch that would still put you ahead of paying for monthly cable.

my wife likes her Bravo. pretty much the only reason we pay for cable.

I know some people like that. They like 1 channel or show but spend 100's a month for cable.

yup its pretty annoying. and i know we can pay for other services like PSVue, but when were getting internet as well from the same company and the cost difference isnt that much, oh well. more for convenience's sake i guess

personally id cut it in a heart beat

TV for me has stopped being a necessity since like 2013. Nothing interesting, everything has some sort of political innuendo to "appeal" to certain folks, and quite frankly I did not watch that much of it back then. I don't even Netflix and I think it's way more worth the subscription.

All the best bits of TV are on YouTube or a streaming service somewhere these days. I don't have to turn to ITV or wherever to enjoy 20 minutes of Gordon Ramsay shouting at someone.

Being a sports fan, I'm suckered into paying $145 a month for cable TV to watch a game or two a week. Outside of that there is absolutely no reason for television to even exist. I'm slowly but surely accepting the fact I need to quit watching sports and helping line these cats pockets.

I pay for cable mainly just to have reasonably fast internet. If I didn't have it, though, I'd have to find ways to watch football.

If nothing else is on, check if "Road House" is on demand.

Only thing I use TV for is sports and background noise (news).

No internet stream will ever replicate live sports quality from a cable box. I also like watching 11 pm sportsdesk for nightly recaps.

Streaming movies seems ok. Netflix seems fine. But try to find a good internet stream of a hockey or football game and it's crap.

I only really watch live TV when I'm cooking/eating. Everything else is on demand. It's made me hate having to wait a week for a new episode of a current show to be aired too, cos I'm so used to binge watching stuff now.

I haven´t watched TV for a couple of years now. I have four channels, two commercial and two public service. The commercial ones only send re-runs of Star Trek, Simpsons and Married with Children, along with Swedish reality shows that suck ass. The public service ones are better, and have more quality content, but everytime there is something worth watching I miss it because I work or do something else, like gaming or writing. The thing is, I want to watch tv and shows at my own leisure, not because some yahoos decides when or what I´m gonna watch. Therefore I only stick to Netflix and Youtube.

I agree TV sucks. I have some shows i watch but not many . As for those movie picks, Jupiter Ascending in 3D was pretty awesome. I put off watching it for a long time but when I finally put it in i really enjoyed it.

Ever since Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, everything kind of blows. I’ve seen other shows I like, Ozark, Ray Donovan.. but they don’t draw me in really much, just find them entertaining to watch.

which sport do you watch? I watch hockey and have a way to replicate HD quality through streaming.

Who else misses Steve Guttenberg?! Police Academy on now with the sequals on subsequent Tuesdays! Also The Castle on tomorrow! Big on Friday!

TV is pretty fun. i setup an antennae on my TV to get OTA. i am missing a lot of stations but there is always some cool stuff to find. flipping is fun. was watching TV w some friends.

the other day i was flipping around and a Crocodile Hunter movie was on Light tv, it was the end credits which had a really cool montage of him doing crazy shit with animals while a hip hop "Crocodile Rock" played on the soundtrack. tbh i hate that song & but this was actually really awesome for some reason. the station itself is lame tho, they show stuff like Highway to Heaven and Flipper for 2 hours a day.

i like BUZZR, they show tons of 70s game shows and nothing else. the set design on those old tv shows are really wild. they are really something else. feel like everyone is chasing a realistic style nowadays, this kind of artificial studio-filmed heightened reality is so fun to look back on. Richard Dawson hosting Family Feud is on here. its like cultural historical anthropology watching some of these quiz shows.

ABC at one point had American Idol and it was all Disney stuff. Katy Perry was dressed like Ursula the Sea Witch and Lionel Ritchie at one point was playing with her tentacles. there were a lot of annoying people featured (i prefer the Voice) and the whole thing was a massive corporate blowjob. my friends urged me to change the channel & i agreed.

That 70's Show is probably my most watched show, on tv they show it every day, alongside Home Improvement and some other 90s tv. Home Improvement is funny to look back on, i don't really f with it now cos it's a bit lame. it is very much in the 90s right wing comedy mould, humor about your wife complaining about you. 3rd Rock From the Sun is on a lot too, which is a pretty funny show, one of the best sci fi comedies.

Doctor Who was showing on Retro, which is kind of a lame channel mostly showing really old B&W cowboy tv shows and stuff but on Saturday afternoon they had Tom Baker era Dr. Who for a good 2 hours. <3 those old shows so much.

don't get me wrong, there is a lot of stuff that people may consider "irrelevant". at least 33% religious programming or home shopping network. a bunch of Latin channels, which is cool, and sometimes i will watch some stuff to see what's up. beautiful women everywhere on those channels. one time i saw an advert for a witch doctor, it was one of the coolest things ever. it had a phone number to call and everything.

only have cable because my wife likes one freaking channel - Bravo

personally I dont really have anything I watch on it.

this past season I re-got into survivor solely because I had absolutely nothing on tv to follow

I watch maybe 1 HBO show per scheduling season but thats as much as "cable" as netflix is.

edit - HAH! said the same thing about my wife in this thread back in november. yes, tv still sucks in the future. as does paying for it
edit 2 - fuck this shit. I just googled how to get bravo without cable and there are plenty of ways. I think its time i make the push again

I never miss an episode of Running Man (the Korean variety show) even after hundreds of episodes and I still enjoy Kdramas. Watching Memories of Alhambra now, and just started W. And I guess I do watch anime. US tv died for me with Westworld season 2.

Same here. If it's not live sport (MotoGP, Champions League/Premier League), it basically never gets used. I came downstairs the other Saturday morning to some sitcom tat my current girlfriend had put on. I couldn't even make it through a bowl of cereal before I was asking if we could just turn it off and put something on that we like and have on tap.
