Eiji Aonuma: “We know you guys are thinking about Skyward Sword for Switch, right?”

NintendoSoup:

Eiji Aonuma paid a surprise visit to The Legend of Zelda 2018 concert in Japan.

According to sources at the concert, Aonuma apparently told audiences “We know you guys are thinking about Skyward Sword for Switch, right?” from out of nowhere.
It is not clear if this was a tease for a Skyward Sword port, or if the Nintendo producer was just kidding around.

My first thought was:

But maybe he’s trolling us? He has to be trolling us.

I wanted it on the Wii U with the other Zelda remasters. So, yes I'd buy a port of Skyward Sword. Not the best Zelda, it still has some great dungeons though.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Switch owners are thinking about a lot games they want on Switch tbh.

I never played Skyward Sword because of its reliance on motion controls. I'd play a conventional controlling one, however. That is, if I ever beat BotW.

I couldn't go back to it.

As far as I'm concerned, BotW has essentially made all the other 3D Zeldas obsolete. Ocarina still gets high marks for nostalgia purposes but that's it, I'd take ALttP or Link Between Worls over it.

I'm playing BotW now, and the weapon system alone invalidates this statement. Having to scour for weapons that break after only a few hits is the worst thing to ever happen to the series imo.

I'd like to see SS on the Switch, with normal controls mind you.

While I can see how many enjoyed BotW for those us that don't like the extreme emphasis on loot approach it was not that enjoyable. In fact BotW was my biggest disappointment last year.

Also older Zelda games used to have numerous, actual, well crafted dungeons and bossfights. And having a smaller overworld doesn't make a game less good.
It's not like BOTW is bad or anything, but it's a really different kind of game compared to the older entries of the series, i just think it's kinda silly to put it above them just because people nowadays like modern open world rpg collectathlons more.

All over the world Switch owners were siting there thinking "You know what I could do with? More ports! Let me clarify, more overpriced ports! YAY!" and Nintendo heard their prayers and pimp slapped their wallets like only they can.

I liked Skyward Sword and its take on utilising motion controls. So, I'll be buying it for sure. But I'd rather have a collection of the Wii U remakes and Skyward Sword HD.

Skyward Sword could use some improvements, even in a lazy HD remake like the ones Nintendo is used to. Like:
  • Making motion controls optional for swordplay, make swimming and flying controllable with the analog sticks... but keep the option for motion controls nevertheless
  • Trim Fi's messages significantly and reduce her gameplay intermissions, or make them appear below the screen without interrupting the gameplay much like in the major boss battles in Breath of the Wild (and can be not displayed at all)
  • Do the same for when Link first collects a rupee type, or a collection item
  • Fix the text speed in all non-Japanese versions (that have more text yet much slower text speed)
  • Fill the sky with new stuff to do, islands with mini-dungeons or items, and adjust the flying speed to make it less a chore to traverse
  • Remove anything requiring dowsing
Ideally, it should add more original content to replace the revisited dungeons, but they probably won't.

Aonuma should be kept as far from the Zelda series as possible.

Instead of co-opting the Zelda franchise for his endless remakes of Marvelous, Nintendo should just let him reboot the franchise and let the younger developers retain control over Zelda.

Breath of the Wild is the most non-Aonuma Zelda in decades which is why it is so exceptional.

Why go to the trouble of building new games when we can port old games from our failed last-gen console?

I feel like people played this game wrong, I always had tons of weapons and the breaking system never once bothered me.

I liked a lot Skyward Sword when got launched. It has, by far, the best directed cutscenes in a Zelda game.

But after Breath of the Wild, I just can't have SS again.

Didn't realize you could play the game wrong. I pick up a weapon, I fight with it and it breaks. Then I have to go waste time looking for another weapon.

I thought I hated Skyward Sword.....then I played BoTW and realized it wasn't really that bad. The motion controls I don't care for in it or facing some bosses many times, but at least the formula is Zelda vs this Assassins Creed clone lol

Yeah, it's definitely the most un-Zelda Zelda I've ever played. It introduces a mechanic like climbing, which seemed really awesome in concept, but then most of the mountains are about 3 feet higher than you can climb and it becomes cumbersome after slipping off a rock face for the tenth time. I don't know, there's just something about this game that feels off.

I'm not sure how this meme is still alive. If you're running out of weapons constantly, you're just playing the game poorly. You're failing at the system in place so you need to reevaluate your strategy.

This is like complaining about having to combo a lot in Devil May Cry.

they would probably try to "fix" it again so no thanks. TPHD was hugely disappointing because of that crap.

No...no that's...exactly NOT the Zelda game I was thinking about. Please lock it in the vault of horrors along with the CD-i games where it belongs, thank you.

Well clearly you were doing something wrong if you had to drop what you were doing to go hunting for weapons, I was so overloaded on weapons I remember throwing stuff away constantly to make room for better stuff.

I swear you could hold like 15 weapons at once, the weapon system complaints always baffled me.

Skyward Sword is by far the worst 3D Zelda. No interest whatsoever in replaying it, I can't imagine any number of 'tweaks' could change the fundamental problems with it (particularly the overworld). Yes, the dungeons were generally enjoyable and well-designed, but almost everything around them was tepid at best. Porting the 3DS remasters of Ocarina and Majora would be more interesting, and I'd wager plenty would like the Wii U Wind Waker as well.

It's not a meme, it's a real, legitimate pet peeve.
It's not about not being able to collect more swords or not getting why this system is in place, it's just that the concept iself of getting your weapon broken after only few hits is rather obnoxious for many people.

On one hand, it was one of the best recent Zeldas, and I never finished the last boss.

On the other hand, I’m not sure if it was good enough to warrant a replay.

I would be more excited about a ALBW remake in high res 16:9 with TV gameplay. I am now in the last palace in Zelda 3 on Super NES Mini, it reminded me of how great 2D Zeldas can be.

I'll take it. Loved the game but never replayed it. I'm ok with motion controls too, they work fine to me. Just a bit streamlining, and there you go.

Agreed. It’s time to take the BOTW quality and apply it to a top down Zelda. Let’s see the first one on a home console since ALTTP

BotW should have had an unbreakable weapon of every type that you could find at the end of a long quest. The Hero's Bow passed down, a boomerang, a hammer, etc.

Would have helped that the game has barely any quests types beyond go to yellow spot and do simple thing.

YES YES YES! Gosh I love that game and seeing it in hd without all that blur would be amazing! I would 100% get a switch if this happens.

EDIT:
Skyward Sword is by far the worst 3D Zelda

IMO that honor goes to TP or BOTW.

I personally think sktward sword has a lot of heart. It has a pretty great story and the romance between Link and Zelda was the best in the series. The gameplay was solid for me (though I admit there were a few hiccups), combat was engaging and like a little puzzle. You had to counter your enemy and think it through. I thought it was pretty great, but I didn't quite like how you start out with six hearts and that the sky islands were rather sparse.

SS is actually my second most replayed Zelda game after aLtP. It's just too much fun to try different items and approaches to combat. TP is the only other 3D Zelda I ever replay. The rest were such boring slogs that once was enough for me.

I owned it for the Wii but couldn't get past the motion controls.
So yeah, I'd pick up a Switch remaster on day 1. I hope it happens.
