The Empathy Quotient - How Empathetic Are You?

Your score was 64 out of a possible 80.

I try to be there for my friends if they need me and i like being social, however i distance myself emotionally from certain things so i feel this is fairly accurate

25 out of 80?!
That seems very low and not accurate.
I read through my answers again and I have no idea why I scored so low.

How the fuck am I supposed to know what other people are thinking?
By their gender and skin color, obviously.

I can think of is that giving a man a fish is empathy while teaching a man to fish is compassion. I'm not religious, but I believe in the moral of this particular bible story.
It's not a bible story, although I have been taught that at school as well! It's from Confucius *. Before I read the bible last year, I always held that as the best moral teaching of the bible. Afterall, in a catholic school I have been taught that Jesus told that story on his travels. I was pretty disappointed to see that the this teaching, which I always thought was much deeper than the positive messages that are in the bible (love your next, don't kill, don't steal, don't lie) was just misattributed.

Sorry for the off topic. Since the test just is one of self-evaluation I will skip the test.

EDIT: * By the way, this specific sentence vanished from the German Wikipedia by now, so I do not know if it really is by Confucius. It definitely is not from the bible though

So I'm literally a monster...?

I used to care about most things of the people surrounding me. After taking some "real life" hits I just stopped caring. I can understand emotions, I understand and know how I am supposed to act/react at stuff so people around me don't freak out....but Internally I don't care (except family or close friends ofc.)

Thanks for posting the quiz Melon Melon

39 out of 80. Most of my answers were "slightly" this or that.

The test is skewed for me. I know I am naturally low on the empathy scale. I am introverted and an asshole.

But over a decade of customer service, supervision/mgmt, and teaching has taught me virtually all of the tricks.

Empathy is a switch I can flip when needed but it is 80% intellectual instead of emotional for me i.e. "Oh, I'm picking up your subtle cues and the implication of your words. Run empathy script. Beep boop".

So I'm literally a monster...?

Seems about right. I've never been social, nor am I emotional. The only person I've ever been close to was my ex-GF, and she was a lot like me in that regard, although she puts on a front a lot better.

I think according to this thread I need to step up my Twitter game.

u on the spectrum bro
Almost certainly not. Autism is a collection of symptoms, not just a lack a empathy. It is EXTREMELY unprofessional for this poll to imply people have autism, but then, there was nothing scientific or professional about it. It’s like those online IQ tests where everybody walks away thinking they have a 170+ IQ. It’s malarkey, but it lets people reaffirm what they already believe about themselves, so sharing gives them a chance to brag. This is empathy bait.

I did say not to take the quiz seriously. Obviously it's not going to be accurate nor should it be used for any sort of diagnosis. This was all in good fun, nothing more.

Empathy is neither a vice nor a virtue. As Aristotle would say, when it comes to empathy it's all about the "golden mean". A lack of empathy can turn you into a cold hearted unhelpful prick, but an excess of empathy leads to irrational behavior. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from emotional affects and order to be able to act in a just, fair and impartial manner.

Empathy is basically a function that varies in relation to distance:

You've heard of the IQ test, but have you heard of the EQ test? The Empathy Quotient test is a questionnaire to measure your 'levels' of empathy. Please keep in mind that this is to be used casually and will not be 100% accurate, so please don't take it too seriously! Anyway, here is the link to the 60-questions https://psychology-tools.com/empathy-quotient/

Feel free to post your results here! (The higher the number, the more empathy you possess)

Here's my own personal results:

OP we have the same score! What should we do now? :messenger_blowing_kiss:

Is it just me, or does the test seem really antiquated in this day and age.

Its no telling what will trigger people, and yes, most of the triggers are bullshit so thats on them.

So saaad. (I scored 41)

45/80. Slightly lower than I was expecting, but at least I'm not a cold-hearted son-of-a-bitch like Greedings Greedings . That dude will cut you as soon as look at you :messenger_fearful:

Your score was 51 out of a possible 80.

Scores above 30 are generally not indicative of an Autism Spectrum disorder.

Higher scores indicate greater levels of empathy.

I´m fine

Your score was 28 out of a possible 80.

Half that test was irrelevant as I'm working hard on my recluse status.

The world don't deserve me.

I got a 25 and at first I felt bad. After seeing I'm not alone and feeling stupid for feeling bad to begin with.

Meh...

Are they shilling therapy as a way to fix this score?

Although I am thankful for my high levels of empathy, as it has helped me relate to pretty much everyone in my life as well as complete strangers...there is a dark side to having such high empathy levels. Wings 嫩翼翻せ Wings 嫩翼翻せ , I'm sure you too have dealt with the bad side effects of it as well.

Having such a high level of empathy, while fantastic for making new friends and having instinctual abilities to care for people according to their own individual needs...often leads to us being taken advantage of. We can usually tell when someone is lying very easily, yet we will often still do what they wish in order to help them feel better...when in the long run, it is feeding our emotional energy to them and depleting our own. I often have to take breaks from social interaction because it can become too emotionally draining.

I even have a few Facebook friends who know if they call for help, I will come running...and yet, when I am struggling myself, they do extremely little to even pretend to show they care. If I am unable to help them, then I have a nagging sense of guilt. Honestly, I always have a small persistent level of guilt for being unable to help everyone at any given time. I've even thought about how amazing it would be to have Naruto's Kage Bunshin no Jutsu shadow-clone ability....just so that I could make hundreds of copies of myself with each being able to dedicate herself wholly to each different person's needs.

"Now, let's help everyone out!"

.
.
.

I know this is ridiculous, and honestly...I'm getting better, but still...I can't help but feel guilty being unable to help everyone that needs it, and I still feel guilty even though I know the task is impossible. :messenger_pensive:

Also, fellow people with high levels of empathy...please be beware of people with narcissistic personality disorder. We are exactly the type of people they are attracted to and seek out to use in every way possible...

28.... Well guess I'm slightly authistic?

I think I'm pretty emphatic with friends and family and I'm usually decent at reading people.
I just don't give a shit about random people.

So answering some of those questions is hard. Does it upset me to see friends and family crying? Of course. But someone crying in the street ? Not really
I share this sentiment. My score was 29. I'm quite certain I'm not autistic.

36. I recognize, feel and understand empathy but for the most part I don't care enough to express it.

Wings 嫩翼翻せ

so it's not nice
Ailynn Ailynn perfectly enunciated post (I always related to Naruto, lol). It's pretty essential for me to bend myself over and then some to help another suffering soul, but a lot of time I feel like that kind of thing cannot be reciprocated based on how most treat me when I'm low, and for that I'm pretty detached.

I couldn't help but feel guilt whie writing that last part haha.

Probably because my briggs-meyer is INTJ, not that I'm autistic. My girlfriend (she is Japanese) is INFP and got 76/80

I got 55/80. Meh, I’m the most empathetic person I know other than my mum.

I’ve always been bad at tests :(

52. Feels about right.

I feel like I answered these questions before when my gf asked me to take "what kind of potato are you" test.

Think I got potato wedge which also feels about right.
