The first 20 minutes of The Outer Worlds

It seems like Fallout + space so I'm guessing, great original story, horribly buggy game play, great comedy, horribly buggy game play, and great writing combined to make virtually every Fallout experience I've encountered since the decision to go FPS-based.

I always find the Fallout games concept far more developed than the execution of it's controls, this company is no longer a Day1/Year1 buyer for me. Pending the reviews I expect I'll check this out once it's on the discount shelf.

Expect a title update on launch day for those who purchase physical copies of both Xbox and PS4 that will include tweaks and optimization fixes. This patch will be an estimated 38 GB download for Xbox players, and an estimated 18 GB for PS4 players. For digital purchases on both Xbox and PS4, the patch will be included in the pre-load of the game. To experience the game in the best way possible, please make sure to install this update before playing.

Again, we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the success of the colony as we know you will faithfully carry out your duties.

Insane that you have to download the full game again for the day one patch if you're physical on console, though.

Is that often the case on consoles?

The Quick Look is on a PS4 btw, if you're worried by the recent news and want to see how the IQ looks. The HD version isn't quite up on Youtube, but I've seen it on Giantbombs player and it looked pretty good.

Edit: Yeah, so watched it. PS4 seems technically solid, except for the loadtimes which take up to 30+ seconds at times. They should be optimized some more. PC load times shown so far were much faster.

I want this to be good, but those initial clips look terrible.

Game companies, here's a tip: have the people doing the quick looks play with M&K. Makes your game look 100% faster and more action packed than watching some nugget barely shooting dudes. Nobody wants to see a sports car being driven by a 90 year old. Every single fucking reviewer can't aim for shit using controllers.

It seems to be headed that way for sure. I used to stick hard to physical games. I thought that if things went south in the industry at least I have my backlog. Now a lot of games are missing the updates and DLC content, or are outright broken at launch making a physical copy pretty much pointless.

Prediction:
It will run an average .1 fps slower on the X though, so Digital Foundry will declare the PS4 version the better pick. A Hellpoint dev has confirmed this.

Oh. Well there you go.

I thought they said it wasn't going to be enhanced at all on the PS4 Pro? What gives? Some kind of miscommunication?

edit: Never mind, I just read the other thread. Apparently, the PR firm sent bad information to Windows Central, who distributed it. I'm glad it's corrected now. As I said in the other thread, I was not particularly peeved about 1080p, but 1440K upscaled to Faux-K is of course better. It's nice not to feel like the red-headed stepchild.

Boring gameplay, bad graphics, terrible design, will be full of bugs, SJW writers. Yeah, GOTY right here.
I rarely follow a particular dev team close enough to know anything about the politics of its members, but how do you come to this? If it's the dystopian nature of 'corporations rule everything' that makes it SJW, then I guess I'll due my hair blue when I go vote for Trump next year, because I have a few opinions of my own on the largess of international mega-corps, and how they should remember where their bread is buttered.

Anyway, I'd be in for a full purchase day 1 even if it was not on GP day and date. 'Good Guy Microsoft' is an interesting gambit this gen, but I'm sure as hell not complaining.

I avoided that first vid, because I don't want the opening spoiled. I did take a look at the IGN character build walkthrough. It made me more interested in the "dumb guy" build, which is what the IGN guy was going for. He called it the "beautiful idiot" build, which he said was supposed to be like Han Solo and Nathan Fillion's character in Firefly.

I have a couple of quibbles with his choices. First, Han Solo and Nathan FIllion's character weren't dumb guys or idiots. They were probably both above average IQ. Second, he puts a lot of points into Charm, saying, "If you're going to be dumb, you'd better be charming." However, it doesn't make sense to have a dumb character who is also good at persuading people or getting away with lying. Dumb people are not good at either of those things.

I think if you had a dumb character, he'd have to specialize in weapons, melee, and defense. He might be able to sneak around and pick some locks, but don't give him anything more complicated than that to do, or his brain will overheat. He wouldn't be any good at science, tech, or speech skills. As for Leadership, well, I've known plenty of dumb leaders, so he might be a good fit for that.

I haven't watch any gameplay of the game but to those of you who have, is it like Fallout 4, being offline single player ?

I agree on the Han Solo bit, but the second thing I disagree with. A dumb person can certainly be charming in their own way (often moreso than your usual self-absorbed prick from my own experience) and the third one is basically just the classic savant.

There are a few more SJW leaning writers (though the only *bad* ones are among their artists. And the one who ernt twitter balloney is actually talented, so it doesn't bother me so much.).

It got a bit into POE2, but honestly a lot less obnoxious than in a shitload of modern games. Had nothing as bad as (imo) Aloy's constant snickering in Horizon: Zero Dawn or Gears 4 telling me *I don't need no babies* 10 minutes in.

That said, this has nothing to do with all of that for two reasons:

- Tim and Leonard have always taken a strong stance on choice and one of the most important aspects of that is looking at situations in different ways. So, for example they automatically also wanted to include charachters that shine a positive light on the board/the corporations. And after Fallout, Arcanum and Bloodlines (shame B2 threw that aspect out of the window to be woke) they more than deserve the benefit of the doubt. Leonard is also Lead Writer, has a strong vision and reviewed all the writing.

- The setting doesn't have sexism, racism and whatever to begin with, replaced with corporate equivalents.

And so far, through ALL the footage there hasn't been a single line you could remotly interpret as SJW. So, saying its SJW writing is just not watching the footage and going off outrage mob.

Fingers crossed that you are right about there not being any SJW BS in this game. I don't want to run around the planet exploring while being told to check my privilege or listening to feminist dialogue....

Hmm. Well, you're framing it in terms of "charm," but charm here doesn't mean he's a nice fellow. It governs speech/dialog skills -- persuasion, deception, intimidation. I don't know any dumb people who are good at verbal skills, persuasion, or deception. They might be intimidating, but that's more a function of strength and aggression. Everyone I've known who was good at persuasion or deception was pretty smart.

So, the idea of a dumb guy who is fluent, persuasive, successful in deception, and able to talk his way out of sticky situations just doesn't make sense. It's a contradiction. If you look at IQ tests, the factor that correlates most highly with overall IQ is verbal skill. It doesn't make sense for a dumb guy to be good at that.

I mean, part of the description for the dumb character is "words are hard." lol

In fact, I'm thinking that to have a truly consistent dumb guy, you'd have to ratchet down charm, too. I'm not sure what else that might affect besides speech skills, though.

Can't wait for this game to be unlocked in the Game Pass at day 1. The preload is already done.
I did a "pre-load" but it was like 10.11 MB. I'm not sure how to get the full game installed or is it streamed or something else.
Lol do people really think that this game looks old gen?? The graphics is absolutely fine, even pretty good in some instance of the trailer.
Any engine is better than what Bethesda is using.

To be fair, content creation and ready systems were the plus of Bethesda’s engine. They needed to do everything from scratch here. That said on so many other aspects that statement is absolutly true.

i watched just couple trailers of game and nothing more yet... and i think i will buy it ... because i like all 3d fallouts from 3 to 4 , still playing F4 from time to time, so this is for me... visuals are good enough there.

I've never been a die hard fallout fan but this at least looks more refined. Is it 60 fps on Xbox One X? Or is this PC footage I'm seeing.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it looks last gen but it certainly isn't a looker. The lip synching on that lady talking...oof.

Regardless I'm fuckin pumped. Can't wait to spend 2 hours in the character creator stressing on how to spec out my dude.
