I think this won't fit under my TV. And I dont want anything like this public at home... But at least I could keep tea warm in this v space.

Like the overall design but don’t care for the 2 tone color, the gray plastic trim makes it look cheap.
Make it all matte black so the vents don’t stick out as much and they’ll have a winner.

I like how some people expect this to be some kind of look for release version. There is 0% chance it will look like that on release. For one it is huge. No way console will have that size. 2 Vents makes sense only for this size if you make it smaller those vents will be wrong and won't move any decent amount of heat. Secondly Vents on top side instead of back isn't great consumer electronic choice.

Here is some history for you guys:

devkits are for work not for looking at it. Those are also finished devkits. Up until release of console devkits themselves are just PCs usually bad looking. PS4 devkit for example was PC with normal PC parts hardware with custom drivers for it featuring GPU radeoon HD7970 with extra memory while final retail gpu is some sort slight upgrade over 7850

Zoneoftech got a PS5 exclusive scoop? It's possible, but Techtube also has things like Tallosivetech completely fabricating a stackable mac pro story.
We've seen the renders for more than a minute now......and now a real sample...…...I think we're leaning on more than possibility at this point...

It looks very fat? Like, thick? The form factor seems really weird. Either it's enormous, or super small (which it absolutely won't be). Kinda looks like the ugliest kind of 90's modem, unbelievably awful.

It won't look like this though, but I can imagine that the heatsink inside is pretty much shaped this way. No way it will have these proportions though.

I don't understand why you people who enjoy this design are excited about this? When has the prototype ever looked anything like the finished product?

Hmm should be easy to figure out the dimensions since we know that the blu-ray slot is 12 cm wide.
Well the design is certainly unique.....Sometimes people want something different, unique or even unusual from what they are used to. The dimensions and weight of the devkit may be larger, but for retail I'd imagine it would be slimmed down anyway...…...Think of it as PS3 to PS3 Slim....I just like the design tbh...…..A slimmed down version with the same aesthetics would definitely be cool...…...

C'mon, we should all know it won't look like that as we've seen from Sony's past devkits and retail consoles.
Yes, history says different, but anything can happen in the future.....I don't think a slimmed down version of this is unimaginable, but I agree that precedence would dictate we would get a more traditional box...….Either way, whatever the box looks like, the specs is what's most important and of course the games......
.

Ha, I wouldn't take the risk of coffee/tea spilling through these vents...….or any other substance for that matter...:messenger_winking:

Just so people realize, the case is designed like that for stacking. Additionally, it's about 1.5in taller and 1in wider than the original Xbox One. That's huge.

Hmm. I didn't know the PS2 devkit looked the same. So 1 out of 4. So the chance is 25%.

I, for one, hope the final retail unit looks nothing like that. Just give me a black box and I'm good.

And have some nice LEDs on the front that light up. Maybe the PS logo itself when it's operating.

Tbh, I would rather something like that than another plain ass black box.
Growing up in the 90s made me like goofy ass designs, I guess. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I just had a thought that makes me sad. There are probably no badass 4k fox engine Konami games being developed on this thing.

Looks very charming to me. I mean, I understand the venting parts weird, but since this is a devikit I bet they will change later.

Also I could picture this stuff with a metalic silver or navy blue.

Kojima's influence on Sony is too strong.
Joking aside, I think it looks hideous. The triple stack PS4 Pro looks elegant compared to this monstrosity.

For me, even if Sony goes with a “simplified” version of the V-design, it will be the worst looking entry in the PlayStation family.

Also, surely the lack of a flat surface will create problems for art designs on LE versions of the PS5.

Proto devkits are almost always just a box with a 15 minute made design and its components, the final ones uses the console's shell. Its curious that Sony decided to make a unique design for it.

Nintendo final ones for example, at least in the Pre WiiU days, were just big metal boxes with the hardware.

The design makes so much more sense when you flip the unit upside-down which I'm fairly certain will be the case for the retail model.

The clues as to why this is likely are all over, and not just because of the rubber feet on the "upper" face in the images/patent. For example, look at the placement of the disc slot, every Sony console has it towards the top of the case for ease of access.

I'd also remind people of the cooler patent Sony filed awhile back, which looked odd because the large heat dissipator was positioned beneath the cpu.

God that's ugly. But I'm sure the vents and the V but won't be there in the retail version. I think it'll be half that height so they'll remove that bit.

I can't believe the PS5 dev kit can have this V formfactor
Almost every dev kits were just big "neutral" rectangle

Anybody remember the PS3 boomerang controller.....Some people loved it some people hated it, but I've always liked unconventional designs just like this devkit design.....

XVrZ79K.jpg

Boomerang didn't pan out, but this devkit makes much more sense from a design standpoint.....particularly for cooling and heat dissipation.....A slimmed version of this kit is not far fetched for a consumer build tbh...

OTOH, for boomerang, some people thought, it would be ergonomically unpleasant to hold....or at least that's what they tried to imply...

while all true, this shape may be a requirement for radical, super effective cooling for retail as well as dev kits. Also, might be required for stacking retail ps5’s for 50TF, FU to EU energy commission gaming.

thelastword thelastword , I too was curious about the PS3's concept boomerang/banana controller. The somewhat translucent buttons are an interesting detail. It's just the placement of the L and R buttons, at first glance, that looks like it would be awkward to hold.

This could potentially be the best looking console since the launch of the Japanese Megadrive in 1988. Do it Sony, do it. Give us the big V!
The big V!!!!!!...…...One thing's for sure, there will be a million ways to market this console...…..
