Star Wars: Fallen Order |OT| I have a gooood feeling about this

Enjoying things immensely so far and I think I’ve barely scratched the surface so far just got my second force ability.

I have issues with the polish. This game lacks polish and so its a solid 7.5 from me but if it had just kept in the oven 6 more months it could have been a solid 9+ from me. Alas it’s still a good game and at this point I feel I will finish it (which is a massive good sign for me ha!) whether I 100% will be another question.

Also if you’re going to make a game where the player dies a lot (which is intentional I think) I feel like the loading needs to be much quicker than this and I can’t understand why loading takes so long when ppl die. I mean you can fall off an edge and just get warped back to where you are. Why does it need 30 seconds of loading each time we die (it might be much shorter than that but it feels like ages when you’re eager to get your xp back)?

I haven’t played any of the soulsborne style games as I don’t enjoy the difficulty and the dying all the time so I’m glad this isn’t too difficult for me on Jedi knight setting. I started on Jedi master but the loading was just too much. If I keep dying often I’ll put it down to completely easy but I’d prefer not to reduce my challenge that much. I have enjoyed the few moments when I’m barely alive and no healing stims and gotta defeat one weak ass enemy to get to a spawn.

Really happy I’m enjoying this though I’ve needed this break from the world.

Couldn't agree more on the loading. The game has a hard difficulty. It sucks when you die in 1 hit and take 30 seconds to retry.

Installing. Think I'll go 4k 30. 1080p 60 sounds like a stutter fest.

Yes this is the way to play.

Also I don’t know about anyone else but I’m getting huge Metroid feels from this game, the map is just Metroid prime pretty much exactly, I kind of like that they’ve gone around and picked elements from various great games and put them all together into a Star Wars game that is redundant but fun because it uses those cool elements from other games.

Sometimes I feel myself wishing I had a blaster so I could snipe those enemies while they've got their backs turned.

This makes me want Metroid prime 4 even more. I hope that Nintendo will show that off soon.

Now granted I can’t remember all the different alien species in Star Wars lore, but I’m pretty sure this is a new one. What is it called?

Got to the first planet. So far I think its awesome. The graphics are great. Seems to run fine. I get a hitch in the fps occasionally. The only thing that bothers me kinda is the cutscenes the textures will blink in and out of view. Playing on Pro quality mode.

I hate to say it but I think Im tapping out for today, possibly forever. I just don't dig the combat at all. Why they felt the need to copy even the bad things about Souls, like hiding enemies behind stuff you can't see and being shot from off screen, ill never understand.

Maybe I'll throw it on story mode tomorrow and give it a shot.

Why does Cal remind of Michael Jackson?

Playing on Pro, stable mode. Performance mode does not seem steady.

Went for Grandmaster level and I'm dying like a lot. Parrys are difficult and when stromtroppers also start to shoot its chaos.

But is it just me or if you smash square you eventually break enemies guard and kill them? Hope this is only for low tier enemies.

I have played the intro mission and the second planet we get to and I'm amazed so far. I liked the game since the reveal but I wasn't too hyped about it but wanted to support single player story driven games, so I bought it at full price and it has completely surprised me. It has resurrected the SW fan child in me with its music and atmosphere. Visually it's one of the best this gen and almost on par with Uncharted 4 (though lacking the polish ND games are known for) and I think that's the best compliment such a game can get for its technical aspects. I have been waiting for this game since the last Jedi Knight (2003?). This is the kind of game of which I wanted a lot more this gen instead of the generic MP and open world games. I hate EA just as almost any other person here but props to them for providing support for Respawn who have delivered an amazing game. I hope it will be this enjoyable throughout the full journey and it won't be full of SJW bullshit.

Wait until you take on 4 goats on grand master.

So...idk what happened but the game froze. Whatever. I was about to put it down but i said let me finish this planet.

Idk how or why but apparently my parry just wasn't working before the crash. I thought the window was just insanely small but now I haven't missed more than three. I also am able to block stuff I wasn't able to before...

The hell...

Four planets in. Not feeling it. The combat hasn’t gotten any less clunky with new lightsaber moves and force powers. It doesn’t balance input priority with animations very well, and actions all feel laggy as a result.

the exploration is fine but the rewards are mostly cosmetic, and not In an interesting way (color swaps for the droid, lightsaber hilt bits you can barely see, etc.). Struggling to care.

It incorporates design elements from great games, like the Souls bonfires and estus, but doesn’t really leverage those elements meaningfully and makes little sense in the context of Star Wars.

It's always been random "stimpaks." Doesnt really make a giant difference if you get them off dead enemies or when you rest.

You're killin me man, I'm literally on the steam page to purchase this. On the other hand...thanks for the impressions, I might have saved 60 bucks.

Shit. I was fucking around with drivers and stuff earlier after the issues I was having. I guess that combined with having been connected to a VPN a few hours ago to play the game early, I'm now locked out of the game.

untitledhskos.png

According to google, I have to wait a FULL 24 hours since the last time I tried to launch the game. Fuck you EA and your DRM bullshit. Paying customers get burned. I already have 2FA enabled, so obviously this was me, and nobody else accessing my account. This'll probably get cracked today, and pirates will be playing it before I regain access. Waiting for EA chat support to see if they can manually reset my shit, but I'm only 10th in line after almost 1/2 hour waiting. Fine, whatever, I'll go to bed. But now this probably means I can't play this until Saturday now. F U EA.

EDIT: EA support chat moron claims there's absolutely nothing they can do, and they suggest I wait 24 hours. Unreal.
I'm still locked out. I guess it's really gonna be a full 24 hours. For fuck's sake, EA. I'll just hope trying to launch the game just now didn't 'reset' the 24h clock. But couldn't help trying after reading about people who had this issue with other games being able to access their game sooner (the speculation is that there's a daily 'reset' of some kind every 24h rather than an absolute 24h on an individual user basis.

Regardless I'm extremely pissed. I supposed I'll just have to try again tomorrow night. Still can't fucking fathom the logic behind this absurd DRM.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the graphics and general production values after seeing so many negative comments about the visuals/animations. It's definitely a AAA production and that feels completely obvious in the set pieces you swing through over the first few minutes of the game. It looks and runs great on my 4790k/1070 - I had stutters on the first swing-in but that turned out to be due to vsync enabled by default, once I turned that off and gsync tookover it's been very smooth. My impressions of the game so far is that it's built on systems cobbled together from other games that did each one slightly better, but overall they combine with a well produced/acted narrative to make a really compelling 'jedi' experience. I rarely pay attention to narrative in any game and this is the first one in awhile where I haven't been skipping through the cutscenes, it feels like the protagonist actor really put in work and it doesn't feel like the usual professional actor phone-ins you get.

The people complaining about the graphics are def playing on the base consoles. The game looks sick on PC.

LOL.

Most times with a divisive game you can’t quite see why some people hate the game, while others love it - but with this game you can see it plain as day: STAR WARS! You either love it... or you’re baffled as to how grown adults can be transformed into children again.

Anyway, whatever. May The Force Be With You!

You sum it up very well, I agree

I think I would rate it an 8 out of 10 after 6 hours played. It’s a good game. It reminds me kinda of how I felt about Day’s Gone. Not in terms of actual gameplay but just overall enjoyment and a mashup of gameplay mechanics

Edit

I had the same vsync issue as well

Have negative comments about Death Stranding sent you over the edge or something?. With this game you have Star Wars, very popular, and the core gameplay is Souls style, very popular.

I should add that although overall the negative comments I read about the visuals/animations were largely false (or at least not evident on PC at high/epic settings), the one that turns out to be true is that the sprinting definitely has a 'mass effect andromeda goblin run' feel to it in a way that's kind of hilarious after you start noticing it.

Ugh. Performance on my PC is a drag. I have an old ass 2550k/970, but something here is still wrong. I even dropped it all the way down to 720p and Medium preset, and I still am getting random stutters, hitches and freezes. There are drops into the 20s, but also random hitches where the view totally freezes for almost a full second. I have the latest nvidia driver. I disabled vsync, but that just introduced awful tearing, without otherwise improving performance. This is nearly unplayable right now. Not sure what else I can do here. My rig plays Battlefront 2 (2017 version, in case any wise guys were planning on accusing me of comparing to the 2005 version lol) pretty much locked at 60fps at 1080p on High, and 1440p on Medium. So not sure wtf is going on here. Sure this is probably more demanding than BF2, but THIS much more demanding?

To stop people sharing accounts. You can't expect them to just let everyone share accounts or they would lose a shit tonne of money.

There’s some definite jank here with the movements and the climbing/grasping mechanic can be finicky as hell sometimes. It definitely could’ve used a few more months in the oven, but I’m sure EA was like “Get this out by Xmas motherfuckers.”

It’s still the best Star Wars gaming experience I’ve had since KOTOR and I’m loving it.

Well finished the prologue and the first planet.

Combat is cool, and once the parry starts clicking, oh boy.

I'm honestly liking Cal more than what I was expecting. BD-1 is also an adorable Droid too.

I just don't know in what difficult I should play this. Was aiming for jedi Grandmaster but being one hit killed everytime sucks. On the other hand, jedi master seems a little easy.

And like many others have said: best star wars experience since KOtOR and JK.

I like it so far. The graphics look pretty solid on X1X, at least in the immediate area around Cal. It's at least a glimpse (again just around him directly) of what launch Xbox Scarlet/PS5 will look like.

Definitely the longer distance items aren't as good as something like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but it looks really nice.

It's filling that void to a degree for Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy. I'd definitely play a sequel on next gen systems.

The story I can already get behind better than most Star Wars movies in recent memory, not counting the original trilogy of course.

Oh if I only we had a Kyle Katarn game...but I'll still take this.

Edit: And speaking of Debra Wilson, we need a gif of Lords of The Bling 2 Ta Tas with Shaq's laser eyes getting reflecting back with a lightsaber:

what are people using for settings? 7700k, 1080ti, playing at 3440x1440 and getting a lot of stuttering no matter which preset I pick. from medium to epic, same thing... runs great for a while and then heavy frame drops to like 40

also wtf is with medium being the lowest possible? Is this like a movie theatre where they no longer call the small cup small so they can charge you 10 dollars for it? your options are big, large and jumbo

edit - performance complaints aside, i'm digging it. great game so far

now patch in some options so i can dial some shit down and eliminate the stuttering :)

I'm only a couple of hours in, about to head to my second planet, and it's pretty decent so far. I'm really appreciating the production value of it all - the graphics (although my i7-3770K and RTX 2060 is struggling to keep even 60 fps at 1080P/High which is surprising, and a bummer), the music and the delivery of the dialogue are all well done. It all feels very much, well, Star Wars-y.

I was really into the opening scenes and how the story was unfolding, but I must admit I'm not loving the combat. I know I'm very early in it all, but I'm not digging how Cal responds to my input. He seems very quick to start moving, but too slow to finish animations. I also seem to be whiffing on lightsaber strikes when I feel like I shouldn't be. Admittedly, I'm sure it has a lot to do with not finding my parry rhythm yet, but it all feels a bit too loose. General traversal seems responsive enough though, though at this point, very much on-rails.

BD-1 is adorable though, and having just watched episode 2 of The Mandalorian, it's nice to also have a little buddy along with me on the journey, especially one so likable. I'll dive back in tomorrow to see if it gets its hooks in me, because admittedly it hasn't really done that thus far.
