All it takes is one poor opinion or one poorly worded sentence for them to completely turn on you.
People like Zhuge and Shinobi were smart enough to see that and got out, but others volunteer to fill that role and I don’t understand why.
Nobody is infallible and eventually they will say or do something to incite the crowd. It seems to be what they live for, and it’s the one thing I don’t miss when they were here.
Seeing the ban page here have very little movement makes me feel good. We don’t want to see each other fried or ostracized over a difference of opinion.
If a person needs to be removed from a discussion do that, there is no need to remove everyone over every minor offense, just because you can. It turns into a bit of a people mill.

The departure of Royalan actually means that ALL of the original launch admins and mods are gone now, excepting Cerium. Look it up. They have all peaced outta there, one after another. I guess it's amazing Royalan lasted as long as he did, he was the last and now that he has been cut down there are no original staff members left.

Pretty much this, I was an "incident manager" for GE and honestly you don't do shit but make reports and tell people to shut the fuck up and let the tech do their fucking jobs. Hell, I got the job expecting to BE a tech. The best part of the job was that I worked their at night and there was no management and they didn't really give a fuck what you did with their internet so I mostly hopped on steam and played whatever until an incident came in. And when one did, I'd continue to play the game during the incident. Cause again, all you do is call the originator of the incident, call the techs who can fix the issue and manage the phone their on. If managers hope on and start bitching, you kick them off.

One of the very best things you can do for you mental health is to have good social ties with family and friends and have events that you can both look forward to attending and enjoy when you do attend.

The political objectives of resetera moderation outweigh the humanitarian objective. Basically, leftist politics/parties/poltiicians before minorities/marginalized groups/individuals. Moderation will be permissive/blind eye in cases of political alignment and they'll allow,, justify, and support bigotry against minorities/marginalized groups when it suits their politics. Virtue signal as white knights at every opportunity for perfume to cover the bullshitting of only doing it for their own self-interest.
This is why I ended up being pushed away from going to far left (and I am sure the far right has the exact same issues).
There are too many contradictory beliefs that one has to hold at the same time and sometimes you choose the opposite of what you've been told is a hard and fast rule when the circumstances dictate.
One would be "believe all women". It holds true right up until a woman they don't want you to believe says something.
You should be free to choose. Your body your choice etc etc. Be an individual.
Also though if you choose to only date cis-het white people then that seems pretty discriminatory and bigoted.
Classic is example is "women with penises".
Person A: Woman can have penises.
Person B: No, some TRANS-women have penises.
Person A: Trans women ARE women.
Person B: So why not drop the "trans" identifier, surely it's redundant?
On one hand they want to insist that "trans-women are women" but on the other hand they want to make sure everyone knows that they are special and different so they keep the "trans" identifier just to be sure.
Realistically, I would have thought that the goal for any trans woman would be to pass completely. So they talk to someone and that person doesn't even know and wouldn't even know unless it was pointed out. So if you are trying to pass as a woman why would you ever want to refer to yourself or be referred to as a "trans-woman"?

I still don't understand this whole "Safe Space"-concept, tbh. A safe space is required if you are always attacked by the outside. The truth is that the outside largely doesn't give a shit about what gender you are or even what you look like as long as you don't bother everyone else. But since they feel they need to be missionaries and bother everyone else, even going so far as to promote harassment and even enabling suicidal behavior (Etika or Zoe Quinn's internet-trial of Alec Holowka), of course they can expect backlash. I believe everyone has the right to proselytize for their beliefs (in fact, I'd consider it one measure of genuine belief in your convictions).
However, imagine if a religious group behaved this way, demanding special accommodations from everyone and translating all criticism as "____phobe". I remember some of this popping up with conservative Muslims demanding special accommodations and people warning about the slippery slope of giving one group special consideration over another. Huh.
It's like a stovetop that Democrats want to keep touching. I would generally agree with it but people that do that tend to be very dogmatic in their believes which usually leads to them being forceful, disregarding the personal boundaries of others. Of course there are also people out there who do it in a respectable way but I have yet to meet such a person. But yeah, maybe I should relax that statement a bit and say instead "don't be a missionary that doesn't accept the boundaries and beliefs of others". It's a bit of a slippery slope, though.
I also agree with your observation of the actions of the democratic party, even if I am just a less informed outside observer to the whole thing. But similarities can be observed as well in German and in EU politics.

I should've added in there I also believe they should accept the consequences, even if it's firing from a job. I'm not trying to argue for people being able to spout their beliefs without natural / social consequences. I agree with you, there are boundaries. Christianity is the one I'll pick on with this example, but it seems a bit crass that people get angry/upset while preaching at others and then claim persecution when fired from a job or ostracized for their opinions. I think religious adherents forget to reflect instead of react. Religion is a reflective way of life, not just a reactive one.
Anyway, people can be very forceful. I find these 'true believers' are usually not really all that devout, they just like to prove their devoutness by being forceful and holier-than-thou. Religions, cults, and political ideologies attract those personality-types.
Yeah, there's a culture shift in the West. We're testing the efficacy of these global, intersectional, socialist ideals we've been sold for the past 40 years. It's bound to cause disagreements and conflict.

so the recent debacle has finally pushed me to coming back to GAF. don't know if it was mentioned yet, because i ignored the topic as soon as it popped up, but there was a thread created yesterday about how thanksgiving, christmas and halloween are offensive to multiple cultures (specifically native american in that thread) and need to be ended. and there actually people defending the stance

Aside from console wars, things seem to go well here. People argue like crazy at times but then they just get on with it. I feel like it's probably the same demographic in terms of age across the sites. Here just seems a bit more grown up and real 3d people, not internet devotees. It means its a little slower cos people have real lives, but even lately, the level of activity is really good these days
