Publisher Square Enix and developer Platinum Games have released the first gameplay trailer for E3 2018-announced action game Babylon’s Fall.

The teaser trailer gives viewers an early look at the game’s “fluid, action gameplay” and unique art style delivered by the original “Brushwork Filter.”

Babylon’s Fall is in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. More information will be announced in summer 2020.

While this looks cool, I can't help but feel I have already seen all of these animations, between bayonetta/nier/astral chain with a new coat of pain.

Well, Platinum making several games each year they have to reuse those assets.

Looking great, nice to see this still exists. We hadn't heard or seen anything about it for a while and with it skipping E3 I started to think it might have gotten cancelled.

For sure.
But I think it's what allows them to keep budgets and dev times in check and release games at a decent pace and without needing to sell 5+ million copies to be financially successful
As long as the games feel unique enough I don't care, and so far they do. You can definitely see similarities between Nier, Bayonetta and Astral Chian and they all have that Platinum style going on. But they all felt like rather unique and different games to me.

Finally.

I love what I am seeing so far. Dark Souls aesthetic with P* combat. Those bombed-out pastel colors, like a baroque painting, are reinforcing that DS feel. Air-dashing and taking control of weapons for over-the-top finishers seems like it could get old, but we'll see.

I actually preordered this when it was still releasing in 2019.

Hope it's as cool as it looks, and not another Left Alive.

So it looks like they were right in the other thread, interestingly when I was wondering what happened.

The shaders used is different than I thought it would be, completely.

This trailer feels like it was meant for the action game fans; there aren't the usual trappings that would attract or pique the interest of someone who wasn't already into the genre or Platinumgames' output. There isn't even a single voiceover, I'd consider this a teaser as opposed to a trailer.

From what's been shown I think there might not be a dedicated jump button (again). It does have launchers, air combos and even a move that lets you phase (think Air Trick from DMC).

Level design looks visually interesting and combat arenas are spacious. I suppose arena barriers will be in but I'd be pleasantly surprised if they weren't. Would make it more like Souls or Ninja Gaiden where you can take the battle to a different location if you want.

Not a fan of how the wound slashes on the enemies don't line up exactly with the sword slashes. Maybe it gets in the way of visual clarity.

Lots of low end boom in the sound design too, reminds me of how MGR sounds when you trigger zandatsus.

Character designs are fairly vanilla with one distinct item common to them:

The thingamajig on the character's back seems to be this game's version of Astral Chain's Legatus. It appears to control your phantom swords and is capable of grappling then pulling yourself forward, obtaining resources from an enemy and even wielding their weapon against them.

Final part of the video is Rules of Nature + the finishing sequence vs MG Excelsus.

The air-control during combat, the grappling, and the launchers make me wonder if we'll be able to pull off Gunz-like builds where we zip around the map and off the edge of platformers while battling. Fingers crossed. :pie_drooling:

One thing that I kept feeling like this was still very early. Hopefully they'll polish this more and give it time.

I agree with you 100%, Platinum Games knows spread their budget and make fantastic game. I'm definitely excited for this the combat and art direction looks really good.

Looks very familiar in a 'been there, done that' sense.

I thought Astral Chain was overhyped, but at least it had unique ideas. This one couldn't look more generic if it tried.

I think there's probably more to the game too.
Both the announcement trailer and the art at the end of this one show several characters so I wonder if there will be multiple characters with their own fighting style or even some form of Coop.

I think it looks cool, but there's definitely that "i've seen this before" feeling.

I'll still keep an eye on it though, I'm down for a good hack and slash.

Las I heard was back in March during Sony's "China Hero Showcase" where they basically just said the game was still in development and they'd skip the event to keep focusing on the game itself.

Sadly Platinum is a one trick pony by this point, it's kind of unfair to compared them to a giant of the industry like Capcom even if they're former employees.
Platinum only made 3 truly good games Bayonetta 1&2 and MGR, the rest are mediocre at best, yes even the tech demo called Vanquish.
Platinum worshipers need not quote my post lest they become even more triggered.

If I gotta be brutally honest, this trailer looks underwhelming. Reminds me of Pandora Tower for some reason. I expected more from the creators of Nier Automata. Nier Automata first trailer sold me day 1, Astral Chain first trailer would've sold me day 1 if it wasn't a Switch exclusive. This trailer does nothing for me.

I LOOOVED Pandora Tower so I would say thats positive point for me, Also PG might have worked on Automata but that game is mostly Yoko Taro game don't except every PG games to be anything like NieR.

Mehhhh. Doesn't look very good. "More information next summer".

Probably should have left it in the oven longer before showing anything.

Looks generic and it's platshit so it's gonna be mediocre no matter what their fanboys say.

Not saying Pandora Tower was bad, just been there, done that type of deal.
