They are already king with dated 12nm only worth their micro architecture changes.
So 50% increase performance/watt going 7nm seems about right.

If this is true then it will be time for a full PC and GPU upgrade. Currently have a 1080ti and i7 4790k and runs everything how I want but this will future proof me for probably 5 years.......hopefully.

Oh boy, 2020 is gonna be a expensive year for me.
Same here, waiting on new cpus/GPUs for pc build. Slowly buying up other pc parts in the meantime. Will buy Xbox at launch and probably PS5 for son’s Christmas. Also considering getting a second switch just to play Splatoon 2 together (wish there was 2 player local play).

So 50% faster at half the power consumption is what they are saying.

I wonder how many people right now are hoping for a 3XXX card that is 50% faster than the 2080 Ti, but only needs around 140W. It probably comes for 399$ with a lipstick kiss From Jensen Huang on the backplate.

No idea how long I have been in this and it is always the same. It always is the same :

- Roughly around 6-9 months before a new product releases the rumors start increasing
- Rumors hyping up product to be super good. Talking about all the theoretical gains from going from 12nm to 7nm
- The new architecture is fantastic and is 50% faster than the previous one
- New cards will have 32GB of HBM3 memory or GDDR7
- Rumored to be released SOONER THAN YOU THINK !
- Nvidia LIKELY to show at next Event (pick any of the 5-10 events per year. This one is it for sure ! If not then repeat for next event that follows)
- We randomly are hearing about problems with wafer/binning/manufacturing/cooling/clocks/drivers/delays.
- Hype spreading clickbaity websites are starting to lower predictions. Now they have the REAL information from secret insiders for sure.
- Still very good product. Coming very soon. Next even will be presented.
- Nope.jpg
- It is April/May 2020 now and nothing has happened
- Now slowly weird rumors are starting to spread that are getting closer, but are mostly just still guesses
- Desperate people looking for google translations from chinese websites like Chiphell etc. which probably just posted rumors from other websites in their forum creating a circle of misinformation.
- First names are starting to drop. Everyone now knows what the name is. Of course it is the RTX 3080 !
- The websites are starting with specifications which are made up and important parts are left out.
- Looks like RTX 3080 7nm 699$ 16GB GDDR6 RAM 30% faster than 2080 Ti this is what we have heard from our reliable insiders
- Random person in video gaming forums that accidentally reads those rumors says that Uncharted 4 still looks better and PC can't play it.
- Person who just bought an RTX 2080 SUPER is sad and regrets his decision
- Enthusiast who owns RTX 2080 TI Lightning Z SLI has stopped playing video games, because no human could enjoy them with outdated hardware and games are just not running well anymore.
- More and more rumors are starting to spread. We are getting closer.
- Things are getting a bit more spicey now and you can tell because the rumors are much less impressive than they have been 5-6 months ago.
- Day of reveal comes and Jensen releases product that is nothing like the 50% faster + half power consumption.
- HYBRID AGE has come ! Nvidia created Hybrid cores that allow each core to function as normal cuda or RayTracing core.
- The cores perfectly balance out so neither the RTX nor the standard GPU power will be the bottlenecking factor !
- HTX 4080 releases for 899$ with 12GB of GDDR6 RAM, small 400mm² chip 5% faster than RTX 2080 Ti, but better RTX performance.

I am not even kidding here

none of this will impress me until I see the price. I will never spend more than $500 on a GPU. So if I can get a decent improvement over my 1080ti for $500 or less, then they will have my attention.

lol Nvidia is not gonna give you 50% gain when AMD is not catching up. Ampere price will be the same as Turing. A 3070 will be slower than 2080ti.

RDNA 2 is launching the same year, if that approaches Turing efficiency Nvidia's going to want to have a leapfrog prepared.

Besides that, eventually the economics of using an old node catch up to you vs just making the leap.

RIP Big Navi
Yep. AMD can’t catch a break, and I wish MS used Nvidia instead. Their GeForce card in the OG Xbox was amazing, and they could have done wonders with MS. Unfortunately, because of the sour relationship from the contract is why things are the way they are today.

Nvidia could have won any console deal they wanted to in the past couple of generations. They're simply not interested in slicing margins far enough to compete with AMD on that sort of deal. AMD on the other hand will take those low margin, high volume deals every day because it keeps them afloat.

Pretty much......

Sounds unrealistic as that would be 3x Perf/W compared to Turing. Can definitely see one of them being true though (either 50% perf as same power or same perf at 50% power).

First of all... Why is everyone assuming that this is referring to the flagship? I seriously doubt that this would be the case. It would make sense if it's either or, but both? Nah. Too good to be true. Do you really expect a 1660Ti successor to perform like an RTX 2070 Super at 60W? Or an RTX 2070 Super successor to perform 25% faster than an RTX 2080Ti at 100W? Get real. The most likely thing is that they are talking specifically about ray tracing performance, if this is true. And that's a big if.

Those are crazy figures. So in summer or whereabouts we'll have 3 x the performance cards available before next gen even arrives. :messenger_face_screaming:

Say next gen boxes are around ~10 TF, the custom 2080 Ti already reaches 16+ TF, so at the same power we're looking at potential ~32 TF aftermarket 3080 Ti's in summer. Assuming NV will release such big card again.

edit lol fixed my math

50% more end performance != 50% higher Tflops, but sure it'll probably be close with the added transistor budget, some of it will be IPC gains instead which don't reflect on paper Tflop counts.

Still, if this rumour is correct, than at same wattage and size 3080 Ti should theoretically perform same as a ~32 TF 2080 Ti would.

The card is mine as soon as available.

Nvidia understands that raw power and brute force rendering is the only way to get the best results at insane fillrates. Still won't be good enough for film quality but they'll be the first company to make a graphics card that will render a CG movie in real-time. Count it!

The consoles will never catch up to a 2yr growth span of Nvidia cards.

Already planning to upgrade to 3080ti and use this to get through the whole next gen. Around 21 tflops will be a pretty good spot. Should be enough to play most games on 4K 60 FPS at medium to high settings other than games like GTA6 and next CDPR RPG. Will have around 3K budget for my next PC upgrade next year.
