Any idea what the expected.huge cut to Zens L3 Cache will mean for games? What areas of games will it hamper, if any? Seems like a pretty big cut that they are talking about.

If you had eyes you would have seen a ton of posts, incl from the so called leaker you quoted, saying how the PS5 would have a faster SSD than XSX. PS5 would be 5gbs, and XSX only 2gbs as Sony had a better drive and MS was using off the shelf SSDs.
If your "fanboy" eyes didn't see them, I could quote a page of them for you.
That was why I posted. What ever your thoughts were on the matter, I couldn't give a toss.

Sony about to release the Kraken and we back up to 12tf and better once again.

Also both are money hatting exclusives. Microsoft seems to be indeed doubling down and having a gd amount of software for its console which is great. Sony of course will continue its great software run.

Not as bad as in PC space. You can see new Zen2 APUs having cut down L3 cache to 8MB. In desktops, that amount of cache is used to "hide" latency, but in APUs its not as critical for perf.

No games should be hampered at all.

Don't discard a next-gen version just yet. The game is not releasing in March as usual and that might be (half of) the reason.

When they doubled it, they were calling it "game cache", a silly marketing term but it significantly closed the gap with Intels peak framerates.

So with current level games, it just runs them faster, faster than a console would need or the GPU would probably provide, but as always better hardware always lends future proofing and developers would tailor to more cache on consoles if it kept it.

Well worth using that die space on more GPU instead though.

I mean, we've had proof of that this generation alone. Can a PC speced to base PS4's level run a game like God of War? Absolutely not; you'd need a PC with a good deal of additional headroom to run the game at the same level as a base PS4. PC's can be optimized that way unless you're deliberately targeting a very specific build/set-up, which is usually impractical with PC.

There have been some advancements with DX12 and designing low-level APIs, but PC games are still limited by what privileges the OS give them and needing to design around a loose set of specs to accommodate a decent range of setups in hopes of hitting a big enough potential audience. PC games don't enjoy the luxury of console games, they can't REALLY get into taking advantage of very specific hardware features like console games can.

Guys, the "insiders" who hype the PS5 beyond whats reasonable are trolling you in order to create meltdowns.
We should accept that the PS5 will be somewhere close to 9TF, anything more than that is just a bonus.

I m already set on 9.2 TF . If it’s higher I ll be pleasantly surprised . I got my disappointment out of the way 2 weeks ago haha . I just wanted it to be in double digits

I don't disagree that there's a few people pretending to be insiders for trolling purposes, but there's others who i truly believe that what they're sharing is true.

I don't know which one is more powerful or how many tf they'll have, but i do believe that the difference will be minimal. Say what you want but devs already have access to the machines and i'm sure they opened their mouth about it. From the leaks/rumors, the 10% difference seems reasonable.

And honestly, if one of them is slightly less powerful but also cheaper, that will be a big selling point for a lot of people.

As for me, I don't intend to go 4k anytime soon, give me 1080p/60fps and I'll be more than happy.

well hes not exactly wrong. MS did buy up Titanfall's life time exclusivity after Vince Zempalla said we would see a PS4 version soon. Phil also bought Tomb Raider exclusivity and spent $3 billion for Minecraft.

I just dont think anyone's gonna fall for it anymore. Titanfall 2 was basically DOA on arrival on the PS4, partially because the first one never launched on the most popular console. Same thing happened with Shadow of tomb raider. While publisher execs love fattening their pockets with a cut of whatever millions MS is throwing at them, they do know how to do the math and giving MS exclusive rights to their games which not only wont sell as well but also kill any future sales for the franchise is probably not good business.

With all that said, i think next gen will bring back the third party exclusive deals everyone loves to hate. It's crazy that Sony was able to lock up FF7, Nioh 1&2, Nier 2, Yakuza and several other japanese franchises without MS doing much to stop them. I wouldnt be surprised if MS bought another timed exclusive and i certainly wouldnt be surprised if Sony did the same with a massive franchise.

  • I am pretty sure Rocksteady has been quiet for 4 years because their game is now next gen and likely a Sony exclusive.
  • As crazy as it sounds, i think Sony might have paid Rockstar some serious cash to get 1-2 months timed exclusivity for GTA6. After all, if the game is next gen only, they wont be selling $700 million worth of copies in the first weekend. It's a risky move and maybe some assurances and cash from Sony was the push they needed to not make the game cross gen. I wouldnt be surprised that the recent rush of MS buying up studios was directly as a result of Sony's deal with Rockstar. After all, Phil didnt give a shit about building a first party portfolio at the start of this gen and his first acquisition was Minecraft. why the change of heart all of a sudden?
  • I think they will partner up with either Ready at Dawn, Platinum Games and maybe a couple other third party studios in japan.
I am sure MS will do some deals to counter them. i just dont know if any of the big studios will fall for it.

So, what do you Guys think? If Sony doesn't do E3 this year again, will they dump everything on us at the PS Meeting or will they hold another event to showcase price tag and games? I think a 'Direct' style video on Youtube or other platform for the latter.
