My own systems at home when they were current:
Commodore 64 > NES > PS1 > Wii > Xbox 360 > 3DS > Wii U

My systems at home I got later:
Nintendo 64 > Sega Mega Drive > Master System Converter > Game Boy > Philips CD-i > Game Boy Color > Amiga 500 > Atari 600XL > Atari 520ST > Philips Videopac (Odyssey2)

Systems I played or tried at friends etc when they were current but I didn't (yet) own them:
Philips Videopac > MSX > Sega Master System > Game Boy > SNES > Sega Mega Drive > Sega Game Gear > Atari Jaguar > N64 > Gamecube > PS2 > Xbox > PS3 > PS4 > Switch

I've also got to test Dreamcast a year or two ago. I'd love to try or own Sega Saturn.

I've had different PCs from 386 to what I currently have. Operating systems include DOS, Win 3.1, Win98, Vista and Win 8.1.

Jumped out of modern gaming in the PS2/GC/Xbox/Dreamcast era. I thought that was it for me. Got super disinterested in new consoles and games. Last straw was FFX being a total disappointment.
Wii got me back in but now it seems I'm again out from modern gaming what comes to consoles. I don't care to own any of the current systems. I play with my old ones and with my PC.

Cool thread idea (y)

My own way up:
  • weird clone Atari (can't tell you the number, but it played the 32in1-Cartridge)
  • Sega Mega Drive
  • Playstation
  • C64
  • PC - MS-DOS
  • PC - Windows 98
  • Playstation 2
  • PC - Windows XP (ongoing OS Upgrades from here on out)
  • Playstation 3
  • PSP (fat)
  • Nintendo DS Lite
  • PSP (slim)
  • Nintendo 3DS
  • Raspberry Pi 3b+
  • Playstation 4
  • Raspberry Pi 4
  • Playstation Classic
  • Nintendo New 3DS
Yeah, that should be all.

Borrowed Atari 2600
NES
TurboGrafx 16 + Sega Genesis + sega CD
Sony PlayStation + N64
Sega Dreamcast
MS Xbox + Nintendo Gamecube
Gameboy advance
PS3
PS Vita
PS4 + PS4 pro

I had many more consoles, but they were not "inside" their respective generation (SNES, Saturn, PSP, gamegear, Sega Master System, 3D0).

And various gaming PCs since 1998 or so.

Game Boy Pocket (I had a lot of earlier gaming experience, just not on my own system)
N64
Game Boy Color
SNES (A little out of order, huh? I wanted my own : P)
Dreamcast/GBA/GameCube/Xbox/PS2 (In order of pick-up)
DS/Wii/Xbox 360/PS3/PSP
3DS/Wii U/PS4
Switch (not sure what gen to put this in) and likely a PS5 or Xbox Series X. I haven’t decided yet.
Holy shit are you my lost brother? Very similar to mine save the switch.

Mine started in 1992 with GB - Nes -gbc - vb/n64 - psx - gcn/gba - ps2 - x360/nds/psp - ps3/3ds/wii - xo - wiiu/ps4 - vita is life

I missed snes and deeamcast but I did play them with friends and later got them used for mself.

PC gaming has been around during all those years too. Starting at 1992 or so with monochromatic green/orange screen pcs playin sokoban and prince of Persia i think.

It all started with an Intellivision, it was the first console we owned. Playing Discs of Tron and Lock N Chase with my dad are still some of my fondest memories.
I've owned most of the major consoles at one point or another, the notable exceptions being the Turbografx/PC Engine and the PS3.

It began in 1993 or something.

NES > SNES > PC (some DOS games on our family computer) > N64 > GBC > GC > GBA > DS > Wii (I wanted to try different systems at this point, the Wii had some pretty rough droughts) > PS1 > PS2 > XBOX > XBOX 360 > PS3 > 3DS > Wii U (least favorite console of all time) > PS4 > XBOX One > PC again (played Hearthstone almost exclusively for 3 years) > Switch > XBOX One X > PS4 Pro > PS5 or Series X (WHO WILL WIN???????)

At some point I also had a PSP, but don't really remember when I got it. Persona 3 was one of the only games I played on it.

My gaming route

Grandstand (some version of Space Invaders was running on it)*

My parents bought me various consoles over the years starting with

Gameboy
NES
Sega Mega Drive
Gameboy Color*
Nintendo 64

Then the parents stopped getting me consoles after the N64, so all the below are my own purchased ones.

Gameboy Advance
GameCube*
Nintendo DS
Xbox 360 (various versions including the Premium, Elite and Slim models (only the Slim works, the other 2 had the RRoD)
Wii
Nintendo 3DS (then an XL when the 3DS flooded after a rain storm)
WiiU
PlayStation 4
PSVita
"New" Nintendo 3DS XL
Nintendo Switch

*The Grandstand was a freebee from my Dad
*The Gameboy Color was technically my first console i bought, which i got out of Christmas monies and some pocket money
*The GameCube was bought from birthday money from my parents and other relatives, as well as some of my wages.

Xone
Switch

Also at least 4 classic gameboy, a gameboy sp, psp 3000, vita.

Atari 2600 (parents bought it and like 20 games used at a garage sale)
NES ( my brother and I got it for Christmas one year)
SNES (got it for Christmas one year)
Genesis, Sega CD, 32x ( got them all in one swoop one day when I had the cash as I just started a part time job)
PS1 ( got it for my birthday)
N64 ( Zelda and Mario)
PS2 ( bought it right after launch)
GameCube (day and date with Sunshine)
Xbox360 (won it through a Pepsi contest, sold it the same day for $1000 as I had it a month before release)
Wii (launch day)
PS3 (when the 40 gig cheaper unit's dropped, my wife,gf at the time, bought it for me on boxing day)
PS4 (launch day for the vanilla, launch day for pro)

The biggest thing in this to me is that when I was a kid, we frequently didn't have much money. My dad worked in the oil field so it was sort of feast or famine. I was very lucky they planned a head.

NES...
GENESIS...
*massive break due to college and getting shit done*...
XBOX 360 *mind was blown*...
PS3...
PS4/Xbone...
Switch.

That break between 16-bit era and Xbox 360 made returning to gaming incredible.

Super NES going forward I bought all these on launch...yes, even the waaaay overpriced 3DO which I just started working at that time and pretty much ate up x1.5 of my paychecks to get.

Coleco - Telstar Ranger
Atari 2600
Atari 800
NES
Nintendo Gameboy
Super NES
Panasonic 3DO (FZ-1)
Sega Saturn
Playstation
N64
Sega Dreamcast
Playstation 2
Gameboy Advance
Nintendo GameCube
Xbox (Original)
Playstation Portable (PSP)
Playstation 3 (Bought launch console, and then upgraded to slim model later on, still have both)
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo Wii U
Ouya (...don't judge, I know...)
Playstation 4 (Bought launch console, upgraded to slim model later on, still have both)
Nintendo Switch

The Coleco just dated my ass, I was about 3 years old when we got that bad boy!

NES> Gameboy> SNES> Genesis> 32X> PS1> GBA> Gamecube> XBOX360> PS3> WiiU> PS4> PS4Pro> Switch with PC generally spanning the Gamecube through present.

What a ride!

Atari 2600 because my parents bought the wrong thing
-> NES because they made up for it the next year
-> Gameboy because everybody had one
-> Super NES because it was awesome
-> Turbografx 16 because I was able to trade my NES to some parents who got it from somebody but wanted Mario for their little kid
-> PlayStation because Sony hijacked Square
-> my brother got a Gameboy Color so I was able to play Dragon Quest I & II on it woo
-> Dreamcast because I was tired of bad 32-bit 3D
-> Neo Geo Pocket Color because Dreamcast link cable
-> My brother got a Gamecube but I didn't play it much because those triggers hurt my fingers & the library didn't have much for me
-> PlayStation 2 because Peter Moore was an evil man and killed the Dreamcast and I needed Virtua Fighter 4
-> Xbox because I needed Capcom vs SNK 2 Online + Phantasy Star Online + Halo + Silent Hill Director's Cut + Fatal Frame + Panzer Dragoon
-> Gameboy Advance SP so I could play Fire Emblem & Metroid Zero Mission
-> Nintendo DS because I thought the Metroid demo was cool
-> PSP because OMG Ridge Racer + Lumines + Metal Gear Ac!d + Wipeout were cool AF and the DS kind of wasn't doing it for me
-> Sega Genesis because you need to own one at some point
-> Xbox 360 because Oblivion + Ridge Racer 6 + Halo
-> PS3 because the 360 red-ringed on me every time MS sent me back a new one
-> Sega Saturn because I got an awesome deal on one with like 80 games
-> Wii because Virtual Console + Metroid Prime 3 were cool
-> DSi because I wanted to play all those rpgs it had built up over the years
-> Wii U because I wanted Mario & Zombi U
-> Vita because it was like the PSP without the PSP's problems
-> PS4 because obviously
-> Switch Lite because portable gaming is comfy.

My only major gaps are N64, Xbox One (though I'm not sure that's major if you have a PS4) and certain add-ons like Sega CD. Not too concerned about missing out on the Master System (got to play Phantasy Star I on the Sonic Genesis Collection), 3D0 or Atari Lynx.

ZX Spectrum +2, MSX HB-10P and Atari VCS.
Master System and Game Boy.
Genesis (+Sega CD, later on).
Super Nintendo.
Playstation and Game Boy Color (+Nintendo 64, later on).
Playstation 2, Gamecube, XBOX and Game Boy Advance.
XBOX 360, Playstation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS Lite and 3xPlaystation Portables.
Playstation 4 Pro, XBOX One X, WiiU, Switch, New Nintendo 3DS XL, Playstation Vita and Playstation TV.
Too many PC builds to remember, currently a 7700K+1080G1.

Not to mention the Gamepark crap (GP2X and Wiz, both with horrendous build quality).

I pretty much nailed the latest three generations in their respective time.

Favourite generation: Playstation 2, Gamecube, XBOX and Game Boy Advance.
Favourite hardware: TBH Playstation Portable was a dream come true.

How many zoomers have you met on this board?

Of the Zoomers I know, it wouldn't surprise me if none of them have even seen a message board. That's how dead message boards are.

"OH, you mean like Reddit?... But it's not on Reddit??? How can you have a subreddit but not be on Reddit???? How does that even work???"

Consoles:
N64->Gamecube/Xbox->Wii->Wii U->Switch

Handhelds:
Gameboy Advance->DS Lite->DSi->3DS->New 3DS

Yeah I know, boring Nintendo fan alert. I usually don't bother with the other systems since my buds have either the new Xbox or Playstation and even then the only exclusives from the an other system I would super want to play would be Halo.

Consoles:
Genesis->PS1->PS2/XBOX->PS3/Wii->WiiU/PS4

Handhelds:
GBC->GBA->PSP

The biggest jumps were PS1 to PS2 and GBA to PSP. Will never forget seeing a ps2 game for the first time.

Good question OP years from now the lists will grow longer, I have Genesis/SNES on my resume but N64 was MY first console, and I had focus on handhelds like the SEGA Gamegear and Gameboy Color

What has been your way up till today's generation? Personally, It all begun in 1987 with:

NES -> Amiga 500 -> Amiga 1200 -> PlayStation -> N64 -> Dreamcast -> PlayStation 2 -> GameCube -> PlayStation 3 -> Wii -> Xbox 360 -> Xbox One -> PlayStation 4 -> Switch -> ?

PC (and handhelds) excluded. Has always been there in one way or another. Currently my main gaming rig.

EDIT: Updated with GameCube and Wii, which I forgot. And no, no handhelds included.

Near total Nintendo beeline, tho my brother got/bought the Sega/Sony stuff and we just played each others' systems too.
That PS3 was to play online stuff on, however I never really ended up doing that.
PC in the list was the first hand-me-down I got for myself, but we had a family PC from the start. First game I ever played was some animal counting game on our orange monochrome family computer.

Wanted an Atari after playing Rambo at some older kid's house. Parents got me an NES instead since their friend bought one for their kids.

NES -> SNES -> TurboGrafx 16 -> N64 -> Playstation -> GameBoy Color -> GameBoy Advance -> Dreamcast -> Gamecube -> Playstation 2 -> Nintendo DS -> PSP -> Nintendo DS Lite -> Xbox 360 -> Nintendo Wii -> Playstation 3 -> -> PSP Go -> Nintendo 3DS -> Wii U -> PS Vita -> Nintendo 3DS XL -> Playstation 4 -> Playstation TV -> Playstation 4 Pro -> Nintendo Switch

I think I got this right....

A friend of the family gave us their TI-99/4A back in 1983, but no peripherals, just the system and BASIC cartridge, only lightly played with it doing simple BASIC programs so nothing fancy. I always thought it had a cool cartridge slot! (Didn't add this to my list since I never really did anything with it)
