Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’ Will Feature First ‘Beautiful’ On-Screen Gay Kiss, ‘Everyone Cried On Set’

“It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” Sleiman told NewNowNext. “Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be. Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point. We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious; we forget to connect on that human part.”

Gay PoC makeout sessions coming to the MCU get your tickets now and be a part of history.

It's pretty much an obscure character in an obscure team that's so obscure people spent all of 2018 claiming Marvel wouldn't be making this movie or that it was a secret X-Men movie.

But were they originally written as gay or is this orientation appropriation.

A lot of the Eternals were changed in the movie BECAUSE NO ONE CARES OR EVEN HEARD ABOUT THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS. They were in a 12-issue series in the late 60s, and then a couple of mini series. Marvel is taking the characters and updating them in the movie.

Makkari in the comics was a guy. In the movies it's a woman who's deaf. Klingo in the comics was basically a samurai, in the movie's he's Indian who did Bollywood to fit in with humans.

The main story in the original 12 issue series was a human archeologist (Margo Damian) who fell in love with an Eternal (Ikaris).

The main story in the movie is a human (Dane Whitman/Black Knight) who falls in love with Sersi (Gemma Chan).

I'm going to assume that the answer to my question is a no, I appreciate the additional info.

No I know who the Eternals are from the comics but don’t remember any character from the comics being gay but then again it’s been a while since I stopped reading Marvel comics because of there SJW agenda.

Because nothing normalises uncommon behavior, or makes people who might be wary of it's difference to what they're used be more likely to accept it, than making a huge fuss about it and telling everyone to celebrate it as special and historically hugely important.

Seriously, the people that write these articles, and their just as shallow audiences, going into a giddy frenzy of excitement over how incredibly tolerent and open minded they are just piss me off.

It's a modern day equivalent to the audiences gawking at sideshow freaks, but now they act like they're morally superior for treating people as fundamentally different.

How does it matter when the character wasn't even established in ANY sort of relationship in the comics? He's in just a few panels over a very small number of comics.

The only Eternal who had any sort of relationship in the comics was Ikaris. The rest were never established in that way.

Just trying to establish if Marvel is making straight characters gay.

Even if Phastos was in more than a few comics over the last 50 years and even if his sexuality was ever mentioned in the comics (it wasn't) this isn't like them making Spider-Man gay. You're really grasping at straws for outrage here.

Save your outrage for when Sera shows up in Loki (it's a transgender character who is the girlfriend of Thor's half-sister).

lol dude you are the one writing paragraphs with ALL CAPS WITH UNDERLINES sections in response to simple questions, I'm not outraged about anything here. I'm laughing that people still give their money to Disney lol

Eh, Norse mythology is full of magical sex changes and weird sexual encounters.

"I probably shouldn't fuck that." Is a thought that would never occur to a god.

Why add it if it’s not necessary?
I’m sure that him being gay isn’t really that relevant to whatever story Marvel decides to write for the Eternals.
It just seems they are trying too hard to be all inclusive, thing is a lot of little kids watch these Marvel films is it really necessary for them to see 2 dudes kissing for the first time on screen?

You made a thread freaking out that Marvel made a character who has only appeared in 27 total comics ever gay. It's a character most people never even heard of. But you're acting like they're having Peter Parker sucking dicks on screen.

This is sounding less and less genuine the more PR seems to cover it, and more and more like a purposeful marketing stunt.

Which is fine, but if they really wanted to go this route they should've just adapted Ultimo (which already had this stuff in its DNA).

Idk. Enjoy that money you're not getting from China I guess.

I wish they would've done Starfox, then we could enjoy treads about "Thanos' Bi brother".

Like where are you even getting this from anything I wrote? I literally posted the story I read, and make a flippant half joke. This shit makes my eyes roll into the back of my head but I'm not standing on the street corner screaming about this.

Only after rolling my eyes about how important the media and Disney wants me to think a gay POC kiss is did I think to myself, you know, the character probably wasn't even gay to begin with. And it sounds like that was correct. Just makes me laugh about Disney and modern storytelling.

You don't even know if the kiss is in the movie. The quote above is from a person who might not even have lines in the movie talking to Logo (a LGBT publication) to give himself publicity.

I'd rather have that. It would be the Michael Bay level of gay scene. No nuance at all. I want to see Toby McGuire blowing Lexington Steele to completion.

Another vessel to shove push more gay propaganda. In the future, entertainment that doesn't have “LGBT representation” and only features straight “cisgendered” people will be outrageous.

What's outrageous is people who will skip a movie with Gemma Chan as the lead character because two dudes might be holding hands in the background.

Thing is that’s part of his past even in the comics not some obligatory thrown in thing in where “ well might as well make him gay to represent”.
Your being pretty disingenuous when you say “ two dudes just holding hands in the background “ when it says kiss , last time I checked you don’t kiss by holding hands.

Again the kiss might not even be in the movie as the guy seems to be fishing for publicity from Logo. The footage they showed at CCXP just had Phastos holding hands with the guy in the background.

Maybe , maybe not but if it’s all over the news that it’s a actual kiss I’m starting to wonder why it’s even there in the first place besides to push the all inclusive agenda.

I am more upset with them double dipping on Gemma than any of gay/gender swap stuff. They should have done more with Minerva.

This thread was finally made, I was wondering how long until Nymphae would make it.

These threads are always made without any context and to stir up drama.
NewNowNext is obviously a gay based editorial website and Haaz Sleiman is openly gay. So of course they are going to ask him about those specifics of the Eternals film. And also, they may have filmed the kiss but that doesn't mean it will be in the final cut. And even if it is in the final cut, meh, who cares. Many great shows and movies have gay characters.

I'm more interested in the spectacle this film will have. It's sci-fi and will cover thousands of years of story. It will apparently really open the doors to the cosmic side of the MCU.

No context? The source is in the OP. Creative talent is giving interviews about groundbreaking LGBT inclusivity. But yes we should ignore this because no one has seen a final cut so maybe the character is straight who can really say.
