I’ve never seen someone defend a YouTube channel so zealously.

Im not defending a youtube channel, im defending the integrity of a person.
This is personal for me. A friend of mine was falsely accused of stealing something at work a couple of years ago, and I witnessed his suffering.
Dont be a jerk.

Do you mean that he was the one who designed the feature?
Every console GPU can be measured in FP16 and Cerny was first to use FP16 tflop number with PS4 Pro, so Series X isn't first console that this is mentioned about. It's juts marketing BS at the end of the day.

But it will be expensive, cause you can buy those m.2 ssd, you have to buy the one MS/SONY want you to buy.

Both consoles will come with a build-in drives...

The one thing I admire from Cerny is the lack of BS and PR stunts (see 25 TFs).

I simply adore how you cannot deal with the fact you don't understand something and cannot join the conversation others are having, and you are so angry about it you have to post about 25TF at least five times on ever single page xD

I do understand and that’s why I won’t be joining that conversation. Please enjoy yourself and don’t mind me.

Last chance? I doubt that.

I made this post before it was announced that this was intended for GDC. But still, does seem strange that they would announce it right after MS' deep dive press release.

Yeah sorry, maybe not the correct wording. It's not the last chance. But anything after this week, while awesome, would still have some of the wind taken out of their sails. I meant this is the last week for maximum effect.

I'd love Sony to take the same approach as MS in terms of the memory expansion but as a little nod to the past they should style them the same as PS1/PS2 memory cards.

1TB cards can be light grey with dark grey text, the classic PS logo and 1TB written on them with rounder corners.

Eventual 2TB cards can be black with blue/light grey text, a more modern PS logo and 2TB written on them with squarer corners.

I'll do a couple mock-ups if I have a mo'.

It's like Christmas came early this year. Twice. Great XSX news on Monday, now we've got great PS5 news coming Wednesday and I know for a fact no one saw either of these coming. My face is painted with joy!

Just ignore the fanboys; us real gamers who genuinely like both are in for a really good time this week no matter what (y)

I feel like I'm the only one curious if they show the controller... I would like revamped triggers, talking about the shape not function, I know they will have that force feedback stuff.
the current triggers have too sharp of an edge for me, also they're a bit too stiff.

The final component in the triumvirate is an extension to DirectX - DirectStorage - a necessary upgrade bearing in mind that existing file I/O protocols are knocking on for 30 years old, and in their current form would require two Zen CPU cores simply to cover the overhead, which DirectStorage reduces to just one tenth of single core.
This sounds like a Mantle-like, low-level I/O API.

Now everyone understands why PCs with NVMe drives are not the same.

"Plus it has other benefits," enthuses Andrew Goossen. "It's less latent and it saves a ton of CPU. With the best competitive solution, we found doing decompression software to match the SSD rate would have consumed three Zen 2 CPU cores. When you add in the IO CPU overhead, that's another two cores. So the resulting workload would have completely consumed five Zen 2 CPU cores when now it only takes a tenth of a CPU core. So in other words, to equal the performance of a Series X at its full IO rate, you would need to build a PC with 13 Zen 2 cores. That's seven cores dedicated for the game: one for Windows and shell and five for the IO and decompression overhead."
I guess PC gamers will need this monstrous CPU to brute force I/O operations in next-gen games: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-3950x

It only costs $749 right now. It can go up to $1000 due to scarce availability.

This is why many people have been saying that PCs always had a CPU-centric philosophy, while consoles (yes, even PC-based ones) are more like the modern equivalent of Amiga (specialized fixed-function ASICs).

So no, I'm afraid you cannot say 3700X (a $300 CPU) will suffice for next-gen gaming, let alone 3600 or 2700.

ps: Of course I expect the same customizations from Sony, because that's the console philosophy in a nutshell. :)

if their SSD is even faster they will have to do the same. these consoles seem to expect a certain speed at all times, and you can't guarantee that with any uncertified SSD

Yesterday I said that Xbox had failed in Spain to become trending on Twitter due to quarantine, today PlayStation has, despite economic concern.
HYPE...

I like how some people think the timing of these events are fluid. Both the XSX reveal and the PS5 reveal have more than likely been planned for months, to coincide with the GDC.

What!?!?! You’re telling me major corporations don’t plan their events on the fly to clap back at another company like on twitter!?!??

/s

Clowns all of you that actually think these company’s react like that.

Hype deflated a bit after learning that tomorrows' presentation is basically what they had in store for GDC. Gonna be a lots and lots of technical jargon, but I'll be surprised if they confirm specs.

Imagine if they don't? This thread would be a total warzone.

there is a new SoC and it is kinda disappointing... no clue in what context this is tho

Well hopefully it's some budget PC or mobile phone-orientated device then :S

That cartridge patent from months back might've been for PS5 after all. We'll most likely find out tomorrow.
