This looks like fake news to me.

Two weeks ago, I took my son to a welfare check-up in a SoCal Kaiser facility, and most of nurses and my son's doctor were all wearing masks for "precautionary measures" (paraphrased the doctor) , while the receptionists hadn't though.

That facility doesn't even have an emergency service.

Your experience two weeks ago doesn’t contradict the story. It’s a new development due to mask shortages. Keep in mind that nurses need a continuous supply of new masks.

i work in a healthcare facility. Masks are on backorder everywhere we are having trouble getting them from all of our suppliers. Tough times out there. But we would never do this to our nurses.

I think this is a bit sensationalist. The problem is around whether nurses bring in masks that meet minimum safety criteria. If Kaiser provides equipment, they have a baseline of what they provided and this is consistent across their staff. An industrial N95 mask doesn't provide the same protection as a medical N95 mask, for example.

Industrial protects the wearer. Medical protects both the wearer and patient.

This is how far it got...Politicians say this openly, I dont think i've ever heard something as inhumane as this.

Show me the quote where Lt Governor actually said this - otherwise this is clickbait.

Here's the quote from the Lt Governor:

No one reached out to me and said, ‘As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?’” But if they had? “If that is the exchange, I’m all in,” Patrick said. He continued: “That doesn’t make me noble or brave or anything like that. I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country, like me, I have six grandchildren, that what we all care about and what we love more than anything are those children. And I want to live smart and see through this, but I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed…I’ve talked to hundreds of people, Tucker, and just in the last week, making calls all the time, and everyone says pretty much the same thing. That we can’t lose our whole country, we’re having an economic collapse. I’m also a small businessman, I understand it. And I talk with businesspeople all the time, Tucker.

What evidence?

How many thousands have recovered? How many people have been studying this?

There’s been what? 3 possible cases from several weeks ago suggesting that the virus could be caught more than once? All of which have since been dismissed as either false results or prematurely assuming recovery.

Probably should have said all lack of evidence suggests that those who don’t die become immune. Same difference. Nobody is now saying that it can be caught again, so essentially it’s literally all evidence currently informing public knowledge of the virus.

In theory if they keep everyone on campus, and find a way to test them before letting them back in, it could be a #safespace.

I know people that have actually done this. Only ca. 40 people, but they basically said fuck it, closed the door, threw away the key (not literary) and went into isolation together. Technically not a bad idea, since even if the virus spreads, its contained. (They've been in there two weeks already and it didn't)

Certainly a possible approach.

I'm off to bed, seeing this thread just fucking depresses me even more.
God damn you China. God fucking damn you.

I’ve said this numerous times across a few threads but I’ll say it again...

When this is all said and done the ENTIRE world should declare economic warfare on China. Chinese assets in the United States should be seized, corporations that manufacture in China should be heavily fined, and all American debt to China should be rendered null and void. China should be expelled from the WHO and the UN.
This policy should remain in force until the Chinese Communist Party has abdicated power and a genuine democracy takes its place.

Fuck China.

China runs the WHO so they can't be expelled from it.

He looks pretty old. Hopefully one of his grandkids comes home from spring break and coughs on him.

Of course, people in the political class like him are "necessary" in his mind, so I doubt he will let himself suffocate to death for the good of the economy.

I like this but the WHO is in China’s pocket deep. That’s why they’ve spent more time praising China’s amazing response to this crisis than they have warning the world how serious this is.

Then the WHO should be a target too. Any health organization that says that a disease is not transmissible human-to-human less than two weeks before a global pandemic starts is obviously worthless.

But here's the thing, I agree with you. I'm just saying that if government can't keep the balance and is perceived as the culprit of thousands of deaths, then things will get complicated. I'm not saying people shouldn't get back to work, I'm saying we're in a situation where we don't know when the right time is, and the investors and owners desperately pushing the economy in front of lives will be perceived in a negative way because, to people, their lives are much more important than superfluous things.

Would you risk your life flipping burgers for minimal wage had you not to? I don't think many would.

Well, I agree we are at a tipping point. If the worst case scenario happens, and society collapses, we're all pretty much fucked. But barring that? I think people desperately want normal back. I think a lot of people will have a newfound respect for their old job, even ones they used to hate.

I just don't buy the narrative that people hate the elite. The media keeps shouting this, sure, but the media are the elite. In general, almost everyone I've known in my life respects the successful. Sure, we hate the occasional corrupt banker or politician, but we love success stories. I've known some far left folks who wanna eat the rich, sure, but they are not representative of real life. The internet magnifies their voice.

And i don't agree most people think of it as 'the owners' putting the economy before the people. Regardless of voices on the internet, and TDS screeching rees, the average person fundamentally understands we are all interconnected by the economy, and if the economy fails, we're fucked. Nearly everything we do gets filtered through the economy, from our favorite music, to the shoes we use to go running, to the things we buy for our hobbies... the people ready to throw that out the window are either a] in a panic and it will pass, or b] collapsatarian to begin with. Anyone saying we need to ignore the economy to save lives isn't worth taking seriously, it's virtue signaling without regard to logic or rationality. Meanwhile, real people doing real things are making real choices, like who gets a ventilator, not begging on the collapse of society because they're too afraid to admit we need to make hard choices, and yes, some people will get sick.

That burger flipper may have hated his job, but he might have liked his coworkers. His customers. Cracking jokes. Smoking a cig after work. Buying MTG cards or whatever. People love superfluous things, that's why we are consumerist to begin with, for better or worse.

The twitter socialists are just that. People might not always like their bosses, but in general most people don't despise their jobs. The average burger flipper isn't stewing that the ceo makes more than them.

You keep presenting the equation as life or death....that is, you word it as "Would you risk your life flipping burgers for minimal wage had you not to? I don't think many would."

Well, i mean, sure, if you word it that way. But if we word it a little less panic driven, it's more like 'do you want to get back to work, back to making money, back to being able to buy stuff?' many people are going to say 'can't fucking wait, i hope they give us the all clear soon'. And of course it's never perfectly all clear, but the point remains, humanity does not like to sit on its ass and do nothing. If we did, people would still be cave dwellers, not risking their lives going to the moon, fighting in wars, doing tricks on skateboards.

Here's the quote from the Lt Governor:

The quote was fine. He was also talking about extended quarantine for the elderly to keep them safe, not just letting them die. The media is a dumpster fire.

How the fuck is that inhumane? This is his own “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country" moment that he is embracing.

Im not sure if you have family or not, or our morals are different, but no money can pay for a human life, I would never suggest killing fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers to save the economy. If you agree with this, then its your decision, but in my opinion, its as inhumane as we get.

The elder will volunteer to die, in order to save the economy...let that sink in. To save the economy...That same economy that pours millions every year into corrupt banks, yet cant seem to put people on top of the list when the shit hits the fan.

Hey I'm with you, but my understanding is that most of the medicine we take in this country, including anesthesia medicine is made in China. If I'm correct in that it's going to be more work than just shunning them socially and economically. Also, I'm not quite sure that most people in this country are ready to pay the true cost of goods once you have to start manufacturing products with fair pay and safety / EPA standards. That 250 PS4 slim might be more like an 899 plastic box now. I'm exaggerating of course, but we get shit real cheap from China.

Anyone have bar graphs of hospitalization rates by age range? I'm Googling, can't find. There's that statistic floating around about 1 in 10 diagnosed cases needing hospitalization (or whatever it is), but it'd be interesting to see it broken down by age. I imagine older people's bars will still be higher, but it sounds like plenty of young people are being hospitalized too.

It feels like people are seeing only the death rates and feeling invincible, but not even thinking about the possibility of being hospitalized.
Not a bar graph, but this NYT article has some stats.
So far in New York, three people in the under-44 category have died after contracting the virus, but a report issued last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that across the United States, 38 percent of those hospitalized were between the ages of 20 and 54.

Nationally, 12 percent of the intensive care patients were between the ages of 20 and 44. Some experts suggested vaping might make young people more vulnerable to the virus.

My wife goes to work tonight for the next 7 nights.
Lets see if her unit will have enough gear cuz so far they dont even have face shields no hazard suit just goggles and masks.
Trudeau sent all our stuff to china in february.
Now we have fuck all.

But my designers family who owns a fabric company are in talks with the goverment to shift their manufacturing to protective suits and such for the hospitals.

There are other places that provide cheap labor that aren’t a Communist shit stain.

HOLY SWEET BABY JESUS.

So our """"president"""" went to TV tonight to call COVID "just a flu" and say we shouldn't close schools and the such because very few, if any, kids die due to it. Saying we can't stop the country and that all will soon be gone.

I swear man, Brazil is like the living example of clown world. This place is fucked.

It’s times like this that I’m really glad England is part of an island.

And do those places have the massive number of factories set up? With all the tooling required to take over the manufacturing that China currently does? Do those countries also have the massive infrastructure and ports and shipping required to move these products around the world?

I mean your idea is fantastic in theory, the reality is far different though.

The best indication that China didn't secretly get worse, is the pollution from the factories starting back up.

Word is they just run the factories but no one goes in them. And if they do its because they are being forced too.

But who knows what to believe. Thats the problem you can't trust anything out of China.
