So what do we think the chances are of China being made to face reparations (or any form of culpability) for this are when it's all over?

For what?

Like, what can conclusively be proven? Terrible diseases have originated in other countries in the past and there were no reparations paid afterwards.

We've had 3 biggies from China in the last 20 years or so - SARS v1 being particularly vicious in terms of percentages of deaths, it's a damn good thing it wasn't so infectious and the world was a little less connected back then. This, like SARS, is directly caused by their negligence, by their corrupt regime silencing dissent. Damn right they should pay.

LOL, anybody with half a brain could've reacted when it appeared in China and the world would have been safe. But they decided to wait and now they are dealing with the consequences. China handled SARS-CoV-2 like a champ. The rest of the world like fools. Next time they know better, like it took SARS for China to handle SARS-CoV-2 better now. Doesn't even look like China fudged the numbers, because the data from Italy is pretty much the same both in terms of gender split (males 2/3, females 1/3) and age (young people less affected, children not affected at all). That's impossible if China had messed with the reported cases.

Unless you can prove China has engineerd the virus the only thing you can do is sanctions for fucking it up like they did, but that's a two way sword.

I'm not questioning the "should they", I'm questioning what we'd try and hold them accountable for, practically. You'd need one hell of a smoking gun to have charges of negligence stick in the world court. It wasn't long ago the world was bombarded with images of the draconian measures China was taking to beat the disease. Twisted as that may be, it's going to work to their favor.

What if it was transferred from bats? What if the bats were lab subjects?

I’m not going to bother trying to figure that out just yet tho. Bioweapon? Bio-accident? Or biblical-scale plague???

Well any sign of tampering by China would be enough - be it specifically engineering and lying that it came from bats, engineering a bat virus that got out of control, you name it. It could also be a natural occuring mutstion and transfer and then they should be (lol no chance) punished for neglience, hiding the scale and trying to spin the narrative.

LOL. No chance at all.

At a minimum they should be forced to regulate markets etc to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

When this first kicked off many people wanted borders closed to individuals from the region and were wary of people who may have been in contact with others who had the virus or who may have been to areas where the virus is widespread.

"Don't be racist" they were told.

Now we're all locked up inside our homes, people are losing their jobs and worst of all 10s of thousands of people are in serious condition or dead.

Just remember, as you worry about the possibility of loved ones needlessly passing away ask yourself is it really fair to talk about where this virus came from and the conditions there that allowed it to jump between species? When you see the death toll rising and rising is it really fair to ask why the details of this catastrophe were covered up and why the World Health Organization was telling the world that human to human transmission was not possible?

At least when we'e lying on our backs, struggling to breathe our last breath, needlessly dying while cut off from the people we love, we can have one last virtue signal before we pass... "at least I didn't lay the blame for this at anyone's door..."

The truth is that this will probably happen again.

So apparently there are vaccines, but they have to go through testing. Why don't the world make a god damn exception this time and take a chance with unproven vaccine?
That's better then the whole world stopping and getting Corona.

Shut it all down for 2 weeks. Seriously. Everything. And cordon off states from each other. The missing cell phones in China tell me this is far worse than what we all think. When we start seeing 1k dead/day in a week, this economy fear will go away.

The missing cell phone thing has been debunked to hell and back... It is a 2% decrease in subscriptions due to business phones/laid off workers cutting cost, and migrant workers deactivating second per region phones due to travel restrictions. The same dip in subscribers you will see in the US. Hell, even we put the visiting kids phones on wifi only until things get better.

Stop falling for the shock headlines

I think that was in Zakopane, a small tourist town in the mountains. Nature is challenging us for territory. Bloody beasts know we have to stsy inside and can't regroup to fend them off 😐

I was supposed to be in Bydgoszcz this week. Of course that is off, but we still have daily web calls.

Vaccines can have serious side effects that may occur many years later. This is certainly more complicated than with most drugs. Therefore, there are strict regulations for very well justified reasons.
To vaccinate half of the human race without extensive testing could, depending on the side effects, cause more damage than the coronavirus. What we are now experiencing is already an enormous reduction in the actual time needed for vaccine development. Already this year thousands of people will be involved in the development of the vaccine as test persons in phase 2/3 trials.

Imagine if you made a vaccine which cured coronavirus but then caused everyone to get autism or had long term effects of giving people brain damage, or something similar, and then giving that to the entire population. You see the problem there right? While you speed things up to a certain extent you really do need to be super-careful, not least to avoid incurring the wrath of the anti-vaxxers.

So when's the approved vaccine supposed to come out?

So when's the approved vaccine supposed to come out?

Vaccine development consists of two parts. The research & preclinical and the clinical (tests). The first part is already completed for some substances.

Part two consists of 3 phases of testing a vaccine.

In phase 1 the safety and immunity is tested.
In phase 2, the dose, immunity and safety are tested.
In Phase 3, effectiveness and safety as a whole are tested.

After that there is the manufacturing and quality control, but these parts are negligible.

Currently the first vaccine is already available, which is in Phase 1 since this month (March). Phase 1 to 3 is conducted in humans. The number of test persons increases from phase to phase, so that phase 3 usually consists of several thousand people. Mostly the group of people who need the vaccination most urgently, i.e. patients at risk, are also tested.

Probably there will be a vaccine within the next 6 - 12 months. 6 months is of course extremely optimistic. 12 months however is very realistic.

Wouldn't be surprised if London ends up going in the same direction as the worst affected areas in Italy and Spain.

As someone who knew someone subjected as a "test subject" this is horrible idea.

Watch this for better idea, shit like this, if it would do something would absolutely destroy hospitals...
