About Smartshift: Mark Cerny talks about 10% tradeoff, an AMD personnel says 10% and 12% in performance tradeoff, they also said it's in order to maintain thermals. I believe that the tradeoffs aren't going to be as big as others are making it out to be and PS5 may possibly implement STTV2 to maintain good thermals.

I don't really understand why the entire Digital Foundry team is so incredibly sensitive to any sort of criticism. They literally get extremely hostile and offensive over the mere questioning of some of their content. Heck, I enjoy a lot of their content, but at the same time I'm going to call them out when they say something that in my view is totally misguided. How are they somehow any different than another poster that shares their view? Agree to disagree and move on. Nowhere did I attack him, I just said that his information seemed to be pretty blatantly wrong. He can backpedal all he wants.

There's no need to go on and post about how what I said is "utter bullshit" and that ERA is supposedly "utter, utter Trash" (interesting you can say that and NOT get banned as long as you're "verified" and had a poster merely call you out on something in a non-hostile fashion).

Good lord, get a thick skin. I don't think I took his post out of context at ALL. The ex Technical Artist at Naughty Dog called him out for a reason. And his posts make it seem like XSX is superior across the board to the tune of 17% TF performance, yet somehow a 120% SSD advantage isn't going to make a difference? Nonsense.

I need to be honest with some here. I stop following John because of that. Almost 90% of time he complained about everyone and everything and I always supported him no matter what. Well, until some stuff here in my country get fucking serious about the coronavirus. I lost some travel I should made for improve my career and that shit open my eyes. John lacks sympathy and I get fuck tired from time to time at the point I finally stop follow him on twitter or even made threads about Digital Foundry here on neogaf. My brother still do follow him, but its up to him anw.
For now, I just follow the Digital Foundry profile on twitter and nothing more. With time someday he'll learn about the feelings of the people he bash so furious.

Yes... AVX is really intensive but most games didn’t use it... I only know two games that uses it and they are racing (GRID 2 is one).
Of course that can change because seems like DX12 incorporates its use in the API.

But PS5 didn’t the DX12 (even on PC the adoption is being very slow).

Jaguar CPU's 128bit SIMD units are not optimized for 256bit AVX while next-gen console CPUs are 256bit AVX 2 hardware capable. The lowest common dominator is Jaguar CPU.

The argument for "DX12 (even on PC the adoption is being very slow)" is debatable when major game titles that need max performance uses DirectX12 or Vulkan.

DX12 vs DX11 is mostly CPU related bottlenecks i.e. the need for narrow threads 5Ghz CPU.

Your argument doesn't factor in NVAPI's superset DirectX11 API kitbash or vendor-specific extensions or driver side shader program replacements aka "game ready" drivers.

i actually timed it. the ps4 pro version locks up every second and a half for two seconds while data loads from hdd to ram. the ps5 version goes on for nearly 10 seconds without stopping. tbh, i dont know if 10 is the limit and they cant really travel that fast without hitting a bottleneck, but its mind boggling that they basically traveled half of the size of the map in under ten seconds while streaming the entire world with no pop in.
