Unless i have missed some major news it's very surprising to me that both MS and Nintendo still haven't done anything substantial during this crisis. Everyone says how much more financially powerful both MS and Nintendo are when compared to Sony yet they both seem to ignore the current situation.

On the contrary Sony has offered a lot by both giving free games to players as well as helping out indie devs.
Even outside of gaming Sony has offered a lot more than anyone else in the fight against Wuhan virus.

Do you think MS and Nintendo should also offer some free games to consumers and help small indie studios or continue with their business as usual?

Nah, I disagree mate. I'm not sure about Ninty, but MS did some efforts (using their strengths in software) to help with practical things, such as fast diagnosis.

Lots of big companies did their part in a variety of ways.

Sony has led the way through this whole ordeal. They truly should be commended. Even when mocked early on by refusing to put their employees in harm's way at gaming events while others attempted to use it as leverage and get ahead, they held steadfast.

As things played out, it is clear Sony was in the right and helped force these conferences to do the right thing for public and employee safety, even if others had to give them up kicking and screaming.

Nintendo donated 9500 face masks.

That is great too. These Japanese gaming companies have done great things despite the negative financial implications.

Let’s not turn Sony’s kindness into console war.

Or expect that kindness should be mandatory. As someone said, that’s a very Reset attitude.
Why everything should be turned into console war?

The whole world is in crisis right now including of course the gaming industry. Why should we be afraid to question the decision of huge companies like MS and Nintendo to mostly ignore this current situation? The same would have applied for Sony as well if they didn't do anything.
In fact if you look back at the thread for PS+ April games i had said there that both Sony and MS should have offered at least one more game in their PS+/XBLG services.

You people should stop defending multi-trillion companies when they have the power to offer at least some gesture of kindness and they choose not to.

Microsoft has given away games before for literally no reason. Like when they gave away Lost Odyssey when it went BC on X1, or even Too Human (okay that's not great but frees free right?). There's a few more they gave out too. I guess one could say " who cares those games are old, but so are the ones Sony is giving away. Some oldies but goodies are nice but nothing worth putting on a pedestal.

It isn’t kindness anymore when you demand things, and shame anyone that doesn’t comply.

You made a post that either sounds like whipping up a Twitter mob, or console warring. Not a surprise that people don’t agree.

Video games aren’t some life necessity. I’m happy to grab the free games, but even if you have zero money to buy them there are plenty of F2P games.
This is like having financial problems and your boss at work offers to give you some money for free in order to help you and you instead say that he's an asshole for not giving you all the money you actually need. Great logic.

Cut the shit. This is blatant, and kinda pathetic console warring, and it’s right people are calling you out

i think people really in need don't care about free games
i see it for what it is : take advantage of situation to get lot of positives (ads and tax exemption)

Of course they do. Are you only considering those "in need" as those who are sick with CV?

Because, there are millions of physically well people who are hurting financially because of this. And ALL of us should be staying home to keep the most vulnerable protected.

Literally everyone is making sacrifices at all sorts of levels. Free entertainment DOES help at some level. No, it doesn't help the extremely sick people who may die or the doctors risking their own health (that includes my wife).

But giving those stuck at home for months, something to do for free IS commendable. Especially since so many are not in a position financially to be spending money on entertainment right now, despite unable to do much else until this blows over.

Suddenly these companies are not profit based anymore and them providing full monetary support are now the standard?

Microsoft also launched the Coronavirus tracker through Bing:

And gave away the premier version of Teams for 6 months, so that people actually doing work (not just playing games) can do so.

Not to mention the fact that they are running, supporting, and expanding servers for all their online activity (Office 365, Azure, Teams, Skype, etc.)

Seriously, a 15 second search in Bing, Google, or Yahoo would have answered your rather tactless question.

Oh yeah, here's what the company founder is doing with his Microsoft money:

But we all should thank Sony for leading in this crisis. Sony is always the best.

Thank you Sony, GAF loves you. We really, really, really, really, really do.

Whats even more messed up is that Nintendo had Bayoneta 2 and Cadence of hyrule on the eshop for $0.00 and many people went to check out with no game. Apparently it was a glitch. Someone on reddit called Nintendo about it and they were basically like its a mistake you get nothing. Nintendo is a stingy company. I get that it was a mistake but damn just give it out to people for your mess up. Own up and be nice, they are making bank yet they don't. They don't discount 1st party games or controllers either. Meanwhile Sony is giving away 2 free games.

Even with all that the Nintendo fanboys on reddit were white knighting the company like they always do. I don't know maybe if you idiots stop defending Nintendo they may actually do something pro consumer, but no keep shilling for big N.

Almost like OP is being purposely ignorant to support their console wars

Here are some of the things Microsoft have been doing:

Also this:
MS is giving 2000 MS Rewards points away for Covid-19 (just claim them on the App, I forget when it expires). You can donate these and they'll match it.

You can also be selfish and use the points for whatever else yourself with no strings attached.

They released animal crossing.

People bought it and enjoyed it.
A game that is basically dragon quest builders without the cool artstyle, no fighting, rpg mechanics and leveling up. I still dont' see what you even do in there besides banging trees and rocks with a stick. And hitting a button to choose some dumb object in a catalog. Really what is the game about. I love stardew valley and dq builders series, but this Anmial crossing doesn't seem like it has actual gameplay and the artstyle seems like its made for little kids. It is strange seeing grown adults geek out over a big headed toddler looking characters with stuffed animal npcs and no dungeons weapons or rpg mechanics. Its like the sims without house creation or other people. Whats the point?

Granted I also feel this way about pokemon. I was 21 when that game came to the states and to this day I don't understand the allure. It seems so childish. If i wanted to play a card based game like that Magic the gathering in the 90s was it. Started playing that in 94 when it came out. If I want an rpg I don't want to play a Saturday morning cartoon version of one. Which is what that game is too me. Cutsey pickachu and the kid collector. I grew up with AD&D gold box games, ultima 1-8 , underworld, might and magic, wizardry, FF 1-8, DQ 1,2,3,4, Suikoden, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia, lunar sss, legend of legia, mega man legends, diablo, baldurs gate, neverwinter nights, etc...… those games i love and get. No cutsie artstyle. Maybe its just my age range. Probably going to piss a lot of fans off, of those games, but that's alright. We are allowed to have opinions. If you like either of these games, why? whats the allure for an adult, or is it just nostalgia from playing as a kid? And for anmial crossing, what actual challenge is there, where is the game part that I am missing from seeing?

what the hell is wrong with you? I didn’t advocate you purchase it. I answered a question.

Maybe try talking to people who enjoy Animal Crossing, why they enjoy Animal crossing? we have a huge thread for it, you know. And do it without the belittling tone

Please chill with the obvious console wars.
Come on OP are you serious?

MS has allowed Xbox Division to continue... that alone is the biggest write off / charity in gaming. It is a write off for them...

Let Kramer explain it to you

Vincit qui se vincit
Loving the shit OP is getting as it is rightfully deserved. This has got to be one of the dumbest threads in recent months and we have had some sad, pathetic attempts at trying to stoke fake outrage and console warring.

The game companies owe you nothing during this "time of crisis". They don't have to do a god damned thing outside of what they are supposed to do: design new hardware and release video games. Which they have all been doing.
