PS5 Size Comparison

Someone needs to pull out some quotes from the XSX unveiling thread. There's so much gold in there with shit like "it won't even fit under my tv lolzzzz".

Now look at the size of this thing lmao. Goddamn how nice would it be to have a slim option from day one.

I'll be honest - I'm kinda souring on this design as the day's drawn on. But... it's actually bigger than an Xbone? That certainly wasn't on my bingo card. I guess when you overclock your GPU above PCs with water-coolers to make up for low-balling the CU count you have to pay for it somewhere. I'm looking forward to seeing the marketing pictures of this in homes. The XSX fits in basically everywhere. It's inoffensive profile was designed to blend in. This thing is designed to stick out - and oh boy: it sticks out.

It is both tall and wide.

Standing up its much taller than Series X and as wide if you count the stand.

Laying down its much wider. Hard to say about the height when laying down but it looks tall with that stand that elevates the console.

It was supossed to be even weaker so they decided to OC it so had to make the console bigger to offset the extra heat.
I really want to see this opened up and taken apart. Right now the way it looks is that they have a bunch of components sandwiched and layered on top of each other near the bottom, and two small fans at the top (one that sucks and one that blows) to filter the air down, around and back up.

If that is true what kind of RPMs are they going to have to run to maintain cooling? And how will it stay cool and quiet for long periods?

Just to be clear, (going off that chart) you can just about fit the PS5 within the XSX:

Except Sony have made it long rather than wide.

Probably so that, you know, it can actually fit into one of these things...

EDIT:
Actually I could have even moved another part showing that in terms of sheer bulk, the XSX is WAAAAAYYY bigger:

You realize it's a 3D object, right?

The funniest part is how absolutely hilariously wrong all the fan-made renders were. Nothing had prepared them for the massive behemoth that is the PS5.

Yeah, that's... bigger than I thought it was. I still like the design.... as long as you put it vertically. Why the disc version is laid down that way is beyond my comprehension.

Great... So it's so god damn huge it won't fit in my shelf. Such a downgrade from PS4, especially slim

I like the design but that is pretty dang big.
I was happy heading down the Xbox One X route with its sleek smaller footprint over that tank the PS4 Pro...which is weaker too.

Hmm familiar story.

It's huge and pretty ugly, but at least it will be quiet and cool enough

Seems like it will tip over on the slightest of knock on your entertainment center.

I don't care about the look.
Prio for me:
Excellent Games
Performance
Silent

If I want to see something beautiful, I will have a look at other things which count a lot more 😂

otherwise it would be overheating right, that's why you need the stand?
Oh boy, I hope not, otherwise this could mean trouble if stupid kids can't get this right with the stand.

Xbox won this IMO...Form factor and how it will fit into my setup. Hopefully it doesn't have cooling issues since small form factor PCs have heating issues after awhile. Sony went the safe route and said fuck it make it huge lol.

What about depth?

Kept saying if they tried to stick to a more traditional form factor it would be huge and we all better hope it was something different like the XsX tower. The thing is just way too big to go on an entertainment center, even if you lay it flat. It is what it is though until the eventual slim comes along. But then once we get a "slim" variant what does that really save space wise? Back down to the VCR OG XBO size? Haha sheesh

I really hate the way it looks. But on its side it is not so bad. But those rabbit ears even making it taller when vertical. And as people have said it looks like something from Alienware, or a router, or that castle from Lord of the Rings..

None of that is really a problem for me. As long as the games are good.

PlayStation always goes bold with their console designs.
I'll say my initial reaction is that it lookS like a really nice router standing up lol.

I think after using it, the design will grow on me more, like the first ps3.

Like someone who looks don't blow you away, but their personality is so great, that it makes them more attractive as a whole.

Right now I'm feeling a light 6/10

It's a bad design in my opinion. I mean, look at this:

v7cu6e2_d.jpg

I agree with you

I think it looks bad when you put it horizontally

Looks like it fell or something

Seems like it was meant to be positioned vertically as its original design intended

This will be the first time i set my home videogame system in vertical position

Wow yea that thing is really huge. Can't believe it makes the XSX look somewhat normal now. Overall i like it but goodness it's so massive. I hope the design doesn't sour on me as time goes by though...

So it's a giant asexual fish. The mid gen refresh or pro model will likely be a lot sleeker.

The real test would be to make an Alienware X51 comparison because that thing is absolutely monstrous in size, still got my old 2012 in the cupboard.

I've said this before but this is all playing out like 2013 but in complete reverse.

Agree. Altough I'm also seeing parallels to the gen even before that. Im getting serious PS3 vibes from the PS5 reveal (huge box, probably high price), whereas some of the stuff we've seen from XSX so far reminds me more of the 360 era (strict focus on games). The all-digital version of the PS5 reminds me of what Mattrick tried to pull with the Xbox Ones original DRM policy (no used games). It's funny to see some of the things return under different circumstances and names. I'm having a feeling MS might have a real chance at reversing the trend of current gen, at least in the States and maybe UK.

That is something. Looking at my PS4 Pro, which is pretty dang huge in itself and to think PS5 is much larger than that.

I'm having the exact same feeling, and I only own the OG PS4.

This is going to be quite something to adjust to when I finally have the console in my house.
