I haven't bought a single disc based game for the PS4 for the entire generation. The only time I used the disc drive was to watch my daughter's ballet recital which in 2019 they decided to burn on a DVD at sub HD resolutions. So I would jump on a discless console that might save me some money. I also do understand that there are ppl collectors who line their walls with games they have bought since the 80s and might want to use a disc from a ps1 to play on the PS5. So it's great that Sony has given us a choice. For ppl jumping into gaming with no attachments to the past can buy the discless version without hesitation.

I used to giveaway all my games once I go to the next gen, like I did with PS3 with around $4,000 worth of physical discs.

Didn't buy a disc since like late 2014 or early 2015, and 98% of my games are digital. But would get the disc version just in case.

Oh nice. It’s coming to Xbox? Didn’t know that. Thanks! ☺

You're welcome. All the 3rd party shown are timed console exclusive, most likely a year of exclusivity for each except Hitman and that basketball game, as I remember.

Yes, some did not have this, like Oddworld. I suppose because it's multiplatform, but generally every trailer has all the platform available indicated, even if it's all of them. In a conference with 30 games or so one after another can be confusing, it's better to be very specific in these things.
Let's be honest, the fact that a game is exclusive, non-exclusive or time-exclusive has always been hidden behind any formulations. But: it is not the task of Sony's to say that this or that game also appears for other platforms, because it is about the PS5, not about the PC, the Switch or the XSeX.

It is up to the publisher to communicate which platform their games appear on.

Well, Sony was generous and mentioned in details all of that on each trailer, and also mentioned PC. Xbox showed 2080Ti footage as Xbox Series X.

There is not really point to streaming it in 4k when you know that:

1. Vast majority of the people dont have a 4K TV, and/or:

2. Dont have a good internet connection to get a proper 4K video feed.

If you want to promote it on an universal platform like Youtube a get millions of views for free the only way around is not to stream it but upload the video in its max resolution and let the end user watch it at its own discretion.

And stream only the form factor part so everybody could have this info at the same time.
Unfortunately just uploading the video and let people view it is not suitable for live presentations, there's no feeling of a global event happening in that moment where everyone is in front of a screen to watch it, no excitement.

Man, should I timestamp every game for you? Do your homework please: (timed console exclusive, coming to PC)

Richard is a great even he said that he prefers Xbox at some old videos, but he maintains professional. John is also great. Our main problem is the confirmed XboxEra Discord FUD contributor Alex (aka Dictator).

I have noticed these in trailers when watching afterwards, but i don’t think I have noticed any notes like this during the event itself

It's the usual attack to DF, yesterday someone saying "UH STILL NOT PS5 VIDEO11!!!" and then we got one a little after. People are just expecting them to dance at their pace.
They said that some games probably will be 30 fps because they looked insane, yet they ammitted that they just didn't expect for RT to be possible with those graphics and native 4K. They didn't "threw in" an Xbox targeting 120 fps statement, they were wondering if the apparent commitment of MS to frame rates could lead to MS exclusives targeting 60 fps at least while it's still unkown for PS5.
And I finished the conference not knowing exactly what was exclusives and what not, between second parties, first parties, temporal exclusives, console exclusives also on PC...

are you sure about that 120 fps part ? now you make me want to go check out the video again. But i'm too lazy for it :messenger_winking_tongue: you could be right though. I had the video as white noise in the background while I went about my daily tasks. And I was reading something about the MS and 120 fps somewhere in between.
Considering all footage we’ve seen is either alpha or pre-alpha, what sort of improvements do you expect to see over how the games currently look?

I hope horizon integrates animal fur physics, I remember 7 years ago cd project red promised realistic wolf fur, and that fox in the horizon trailer needed it badly

I don't think the horizon fox fur needs improvement. I think that's how wet fur when clumped together is supposed to look like. Going forward I hope they improve the spray from the waves breaking on the rocks. Something seemed very off with that part. My only other issue is about how Aloy looked (facial features). Maybe she's been eating too much since the first game coz her face has lost some of her defining features or maybe it was the lighting when her face was shown. But overall I felt she looked less attractive than the first game. (personal choice I guess) :messenger_grinning_squinting:

this Game is also coming to PS4.
will be interesting how this game is being hold back.

Slightly confused here, this is not a exclusive game is it?
I thought odd world games were normally available on all platforms.
What i mean is, they are taking advantage of so many ps5 features here, is that not rare for a multiplat game.
I am not complaining its just that i always here people say developers would never talk advantage of the extra tech as its to much effort.

If they are prepared to use the additional feature set of the ps5 could they not also take advantage of the ssd with multiplats.
what is actually stopping them besides time and effort.
If they wanted to showcase their work, the game , in the best possible light could they not do this.

Are Richard or John the Dictator's superiors?
If it's the case, had someone already ask them, why they tolerate a such comportment from Dictator?

Why would they? All of them were running on PS5, and it's a PS5 event. Did xbox mention anything though? I find Sony being pretty honest and professional here, only showing games running on PS5, not PC with 2080Ti and put a message down that console in development to give a misleading idea that it's running on an Xbox dev kit!

They are friends, they get along and share the same fanatics afterwards. Richard and John are professional overall, Alex is just and bad apple that will make them look more and more bad.

I see
In my case that's not professional from those three guy.
Or at least rename their site with Xbox or MS related thing but not to try to figure out neutral as it's visible they are biased.

I can't help but wonder about Yoshida's honesty regarding Demon's Souls ... considering he referred to it as crap when he first saw it on the PS3. Did he came to appreciate the game and feels guilty for almost destroying a game which spawned a sub-genre? Or is this simple PR talk?

It's commendable that he came out and said 'Yeah, I saw this game and I thought it sucked. Biggest mistake in my life', I just don't know if he's being honest about this game being 'dear to him', while he could be saying on the inside 'I have NO idea what people saw in this piece of crap'.
He’s reading a cue card at gunpoint

Square-Enix borderline offended my intelligence with Project Athia. Don't put in the middle of your trailer "Designed Exclusively for PlayStation 5" and then reupload it to your own channel saying it's PS5/PC. That's ridiculous.

I noticed that too.
There definitely is some guilt there. That's how I understood his "dear to me" statement.

It's funny that I thought the assets of the actual gameplay looked rough and unrefined. It looks nice but not mind-blowing in terms of graphics, but looks like a nice game.

My biggest complain about the games shown is that most of the protagonists are females. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

There was definitely some leaning towards the females, but considering the years they were in the sidelines, they deserve some love.

*looks over his shoulder*
And no, naming 3-4 franchises out of 10,000 franchises won't make you a good argument about 'women were always protagonists in video games'.

Resident Evil 8 - male protagonist
Spider-Man MM - male protagonist
Oddworld - male protagonist
Hitman 3 - male protagonist
Little Devil Inside - male protagonist
NBA 2K 21 - male protagonists
Pragmata - male protagonist

Demon's Souls - goes both ways
Ratchet & Clank - goes both ways
Stray - neutral (?)
Sackboy Adventures - goes both ways
Destruction All Stars - goes both ways
Jett - The Far Shore - doesn't matter
Godfall - goes both ways
Bugsnax - doesn't matter
Deathloop - goes both ways

Kena - female protagonist
Horizon 2 - female protagonist
Ghostwire Tokyo - female protagonist
Project Athia - female protagonist
Solar Ash - female protagonist
Returnal - female protagonist
Goodbye Volcano High - female (only ?) protagonist

Gran Turismo 7 - probably male only protagonist

It's a pretty close tie with both sexes enjoying equal representation, as it should be.

Summary:
There's 4k footage but if 4k footage is there they mention that it's definitely 30fps. If the graphical density is high and they don't know the framerate, then it must be 30fps just coz. There are raytraced elements on almost all first party titles. R&C had raytraced reflections but some were excluded from being raytraced. They generally liked all the indie titles apart from the Octodad creators title which they felt was like a ps3 game. Talked a lot about wanting more gameplay and less cinematics. Complained a lot about unclear messaging on whether titles were cross gen or ps5 only. Godfall is 4k 60 but according to them no raytracing. (personally i thought godfall looked like crap) Threw in a xbox targeting 120fps statement. Regarding the console it's too big, big, big (add any other synonyms for big) wanted to know how the cooling was going to work. There are not fans of the design and hated the Digital edition.

And in conclusion they felt there could have been lesser games and more gameplay. and a price. In Richard's words they should have shown Horizon and then shouted out the price of the PS5 saying this is what you have to pay to play this game.

That's a very pessimistic outlook going by your summary, I'm gonna check it out myself.

Also, what's the problem with a digital edition? It's literally the same thing minus the drive and not a lesser-performant SKU, an effort to probably hit a low enough price-tag to dampen the appeal of Lockhart. Like I'm legitimately baffled as to why one would have a problem with a digital SKU!

A global event that makes all the games look like absolute crap for a new generation showing that makes games look better ?

It did not work for me at all, I only appreciated the games looks when I downloaded the 4K MKV to see how much better than pro they looked. And they should state each game if it has a graphics and performance mode as I prefer dynamic resolution temporally upscaled to 4K at 60 FPS to native 4K30 with RT most of the time.

So 1440p60 is the absolute minimum they have to find a way or dont bother.

I like the idea behind this as it could provide some interesting narrative turns, but the unnamed character says 'who?' to being called Rachet.

Maybe she has a different name but it's the female version of Ratchet in the multiverse?

I'm only saying this the two look extremely similar. But then again maybe all Lombaxes look the same except for a change in their hair and skin color.

He does play Soulsbourne games so after reflecting on how good those games are he probably changed his mind about what he felt about Demon Souls.

I think it could be true on a personal level but I think they chose him to speak because of his connections with the game.

I thought I was going mad. The stream did indeed have "Designed Exclusively for PlayStation 5" but the trailer for the game specifically uploaded after was just ""Designed for PlayStation 5" and the Console Exclusive (for a limited time and also coming to PC) at the end.

Feel the need to reiterate that portion:

Now to the crux of whole VRS debacle and PS5's inherent hw efficiency that voids the need to use VRS in the first place
Remember Matt Hargett ex Sony principle software engineer on Playstation when he tweeted this gem:

and also this thread where someone working at MS gets in on the discussion and says MS also have GE (but from GCN μArch, then Matt retorts and says what PS has is specific to their platform and what MS has is generic version - and MS employee deletes his tweets after breaking NDA and making a fool of himself in the meanwhile)

What an informative post. Thanks and I wanted to ask, do we have screenshots of the MS employee’s tweets that were later deleted?

I've seen a lot of people kind of ripping on this game. The attitude is, it's just some stupid little no name crash derby game. But...uh....Rocket League? That got pretty big. As for the technical side....do you see all the particle effects in explosions and the deformation and pieces the cars smash into, let alone all the reflections and such? This game is not some technically insignificant little thing. It seems fairly impressive to me. And, like Rocket League, it's a simple to pick up, but (seemingly) fun to play and probably fairly deep from how you can customize things. It looks to me like it might be "the next big thing" on the PS5 platform. Time will tell.

Bottom line, I think this game deserves more of a look and more credit than it's getting right now.

It really makes me dream for a PS5 remastered w/network play Twisted Metal 2, by far my favorite TM of all time, period :messenger_beermugs: .

I think this Kotaku piece might shed some light on the matter as to why Shu called what he played “crap” at the time:

How did Yoshida miss the boat? He says differences in development between Japan and North America produced an early version of the game that looked nothing like its finished state. In Japan, assets for a game are developed in parallel; in the U.S. "game development is typically a vertical slice." Thus the early build, "the team tried to create a small piece of the experience that resembles the final product." That version had framerate issues, among other problems.

Twiisted Metal remaster 4k and 60fps you sir have my Axe. That is one game that would get me to get a PS5 before a slim to play with my friends coop style. Remaster not a butcher remake.

I may have just figured out something.
Since we just saw a render of PS5, probably developers don't have the final retail unit, plus, such kind of demos, might be running on dev kits anyway. Since we know that the consumers' PS5 has a boost in frequencies, wouldn't it be safe to assume that those demo will be running a bit better at launch?(Not counting optimizations). Games using dynamic resolution would look a bit better by default too!

I'm not defending streaming, I'm just stating reality. There's no perfect solution, even if you could let people choose 4k, the vast majority would still get a crappy impression.

One take away and question I have after the PS5 reveal and some thinking is regarding the custom GPU of the PS5. I wonder what the RT hardware looks like (surprisingly good during the PS5 reveal given how taxing we know that it is on hardware) and if there are any additional geometry pieces that have not been revealed? I would have expected fewer native 4K showpieces than what we saw given the texture density/ quality and the amount of ray tracing and lighting effects in comparison with the officially revealed specifications. Or they have simply just increased in the productivity that much.

Looking forward to a GPU teardown.

They have had the design (a physical one) for a while now.

You keep saying Xbox showing games on 2080ti and trying to play it off as series x. Either show a source or knock off the lies please. And it you refer to hellblade 2 footage then you are definitely lying. They did not say it was running on Xbox hardware.

Did you read the whole article? While the show it using 2080ti it can run at 60 FPS on a 2070. Series x has more power then 2070.
