Sad to see RingFit drop off the list. I feel like supply constraints really took a bite out of potential sales. Availability is spotty and I still see stores like play-asia selling Korean and Japanese versions of the game for double the retail price.

I thought there was a lashback at Mortal Kombat, don't remember the exact details of the theatrics, usually something silly. Yet it seems, whenever there is some group going after a game, it always blow all records and do better than the prior.....Are these pitchfork guys secretly marketers for said games, under the guise of we hate Boon's direction for the series. Is there something we are missing?

It's more that people currently playing GTA online will want to keep playing it when they move on to next gen and Rockstar wants to keep taking their money for in game purchases. Same with Fortnite etc.
I'm sure it will be on XSX day one as well. Rockstar probably just announced it at Sony's event as Playstation is a much bigger global brand.

The wierd thing is, gtav isn't coming to ps5 until 2021. So all the people who want to play gtav will do, on ps4 or xbone.

One poster on gaf said Sony let them do this because they have a partnership deal with something down the line, which makes more sense.

The unfortunate reality is that when publishers have a game that is played by such a large proportion of your userbase, they can control you (and the industry) to a certain extent.
Going into next gen Rockstar (GTAV) , EA (FIFA in Europe), Activision (COD) and Epic (Fortnite) have more control than the console manufacturers themselves.

Software-wise, I think it's clear to see that this generation has gone on far too long. Outside of guaranteed blockbusters like TLoU2, I think the public is largely ready to move on, especially since they've all been home for the last two months and playing games has never been easier.
Could people please stop buying GTA5 so Rockstar can be motivated to make another one. I play it for the storyline. It's a great game, I get it, but come on, it's been almost 7 years now. We went a whole gen without a new GTA already. There's SO much going on in the world to mock in brilliant Rockstar style.

It's all old (and in some cases, ancient) content. None of the sales are being driven by new games. People are ready for new hardware to deliver experiences the existing stuff can't. Granted, summer is always slower for this industry, but there have been games that have been great games that have disappeared a short time after release.

NPD doesn't just measure total units sold. It includes money spent on MTX and DLC. Most of GTAV's consistent charting after so long is largely due to the success of GTA Online and people buying shark cards. In many instances it can be cheaper to buy a GTAV + Shark Card Code bundle than it is to buy in game currency on it's own.

I think that has more to do with the games themselves. What this shows to me is that there is a still a very active pleyerbase on PS4 and Xbox who are buying lots of software for their current gen machines (tho the virus definitely helped them).
