New AAA game every other month from Microsoft...?

Came across this and thought it was worth sharing, supposedly the source is a semi-legit (?) insider:

Games take too long to make for this to actually happen. They probably just changed what AAA means for Microsoft and are releasing Microsoft studio games every month for a while.

I've said it before, I think Xbox's upcoming generation is going to be a return to the halcyon days of the 360. I'm 50/50 about ditching PC and going for both consoles, just waiting for something big to push me to do it. It's an interesting scenario, it was the Xbox 360 that caused me to ditch my PC in 2006 and then it was 12 years til I got another. 🤔

It makes sense. Netflix releases a lot of low-budget "content" to retain subscribers, I could see MS doing the same. Low-budget doesn't necessarily mean bad.

I'm thinking of ditching PC too. I mean, I have a pretty damn powerful PC but not sure if I want to spend any more money upgrading it. I'm thinking of buying both a PS5 + XSX with the XSX being my main console.

The XSX would be more powerful than the GPU I have in my PC right now and replacing it with a new Nvidia card that offers a decent amount of performance improvement is likely going to cost about the same as it would to get both a PS5 + XSX anyway.

An AAA game every other month? I am sorry, that just sounds like fantasy land. Never heard of this guy and sounds rather silly and unrealistic.
That's only six a year, if you take the games that have been in the works for awhile...
Halo Infinite, Fable Reboot, Forza Horizon, Hellblade 2 and add two more unannounced tiles, then it's certainly not impossible. Can they maintain it? Well, they haven't been able to do it in recent years, let's see how much different the Spencer era will be.

It's the same with me, I'd need a new CPU, a new SSD, a new GPU and possibly a new power supply - in effect a whole new PC. So buying both consoles still works out cheaper, or at least the same price and they will last me six years!

It is when you consider two of those 4 won't be ready for at least 2 more years. It's also impossible when MS is on record saying they'll have a lot of high production value AA games because of game pass. A lot of the studios they picked up aren't really AAA studios to begin with, it's just not possible.

I can't ditch PC as I play online competitive games primarily and I love 120+ hz. But it is nice that XSX offers a viable alternative.

Microsoft dosen't call their games AAAA games. What are you smoking?

Apparently, nothing as good as Xbox execs.

Those are all referring to the Initiative...

Basically Microsoft is going the Netflix route with Xbox.

Not all Netflix shows are AAA quality though (if there was such a thing in the world of TV shows).

As long as they are releasing high quality exclusive content on gamepass every month it doesn't matter whether its AAA, AA or indie.

This obsession with AAA needs to end. Quality is important, not the amount of money that was thrown at the project.

Indeed, in fact AAA titles often fail or are severely lacking as games.

I mean, it really isn’t that surprising honestly. I have pondered a few times about MS releasing one game every month for the first year or two simply because of the crazy amount of studios and teams they have. They have 14 studios with at least 23 teams as well as a publishing arm with what’s rumored to be 5 or 6 unannounced games.

And I mean hell, even if their 15 studios all had one team each and assuming all games had a 3 year dev cycle they could have 5 games a year. Releasing at least 6 games in a year isn’t totally unsurprising, but when you look at the logistics having those be AAA doesn’t look good:

343 - at least 1 team AAA
The Coalition - at least 1 team AAA
Rare - will likely have AAA budgets from now on if Everwild is successful if that’s not already AAA
Turn 10 - 1 AAA team
Playground games - 2 AAA teams
Ninja Theory - 1 AAA team (Hellblade 2 team)
Undead Labs - has desire to be AAA
The initiative - AAA studio. Possibly “AAAA” which is a BS term
InXile - 1 AAA team.
Obsidian - 2 AAA teams

So not even including Global Publishing, there are at least 11 AAA teams. So definitely not enough for 6 AAA games a year outside of them having a shit ton of AAA games though global publishing which likely wouldn’t even work for them that well.

Only way this is even remotely accurate is if they are episodic bits of larger “AAA” games.... which would fit with their sub model.

But hasn't everything come to PC from Xbox One exlusives anyway? Why would that suddenly stop now?

Well instead of using your feelings, try using your brain. Do the research.

Well, a few PlayStation 2020 exclusives off the top of my head.

Dreams
Last of Us Part 2
Ghost of Tsushima
Spider-Man Miles Morales
MLB The Show 20
Persona 5 Royal
Nioh 2

Maybe, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Fobidden West, or others shown at game show without set release dates.

6 games, 3 years development time = 18 studios
6 games, 4 years development time = 24 studios

They need to have between 18 and 24 studios (AAA, the AA don't count).

Exactly my point that what Xbox considers AAA varies greatly from everyone else.
