Dark Souls 3. For the sheer variety of stunning locations.
In my opinion, From Software produces the best art on the planet - of any media. I cherish my Dark Souls artbooks.
Indeed. DS3 had fantastic environments and art design. I love looking at the high wall of Lothric from far away. The scale is tremendous.

For me it's Kingdom Come Deliverance, being from near that region; you don't understand - playing that game was like stepping outside, they perfectly captured the central European environment especially for forest. And it was just such a gorgeous and well executed game overall.

Il Mheg from FFXIV Shadowbringers and Mako Reactor 1 from FFVIIR. The former is a stunning area rife with natural beauty and fantastic fae fauna, the latter is great because it's a great introduction for how they translated the pre-rendered environment of yore into a fully rendered breathing environment. It set the tone for the rest of the game so well.

I just can't get comfortable with the controls. I see giphs like the ones you posted and give it another go and it always ends the same.

No, I understand it takes time to get used to it. When I played original game on Vita, I was having very hard time wrapping my head around the controls. but I mess around until I got used to it and just end loving it.

Alien Isolation early in the gen.
Bloodborne. Hemwick Charnel Lane and Cainhurst especially.
And The Evil Within which was much more diverse in settings than I had anticipated it would be.

This thread reminded me of plague tale. What a great game. What is that dev working on now?

I Know they're currently doing work on MS Flight Sim 2020 but I'm hoping they've also got their own next game in the works. I loved A Plague tale and it was such a beautiful game.

Whilst it's not as pretty as some of the games mentioned, Mass Effect Andromeda deserves a mention. Yes it might have had dodgy animations and a terrible script written by idiots but the environment artists did some serious work.

Same question as bender bender , is that modded? I've got it installed on my PC via Gamepass, but I wouldn't wanna play it in any lesser graphics now that I've seen that

Man playing this on game pass was a treat. I completely passed it over on release and I regret it. Nothing like exploring in a forest and a random bunch of thugs run up on you and now you literally have to fight for your life. #NoEZmode

Brace for my controversial opinion... It looks better than it plays, some of the missions in it are tedious drivel.

Thanks, I just wanna fly 😎

Guess I’ll wait for a sale to jump on it, but it looks cool, I haven’t played the first.

Lots of realistic environments this gen, foliage has taken a giant leap forward, that’s for sure. Eventually flowing long grass blowing in the wing will be cliche.

GR2 looks more imaginative than most games and I think going forward—realistic environments are great and all—but I will be hoping for more creative use of the extra horsepower next gen and some really cool sci fi and detailed alien environments will be more interesting.

There have been some great ones for sure. For some reason Uncharted 4's jungle ghost town of Libertalia really stuck with me as one of the best.

Seeing the upper plate from Sector 7 slums for the first time was the best moment this generation. You never got to see that in the OG, so having to see it for the first time was a sight to behold. I was sitting in front of the TV just taking in the scenery and music for a good ~10 minutes. <3
