I’m posting this as a last resort in finding out if there is anyway to get Disney DLC costumes for LittleBigPlanet 3.
I have been with LBP since the beginning (1, 2 (collectors ed.), 3, Karting, PSP, Vita, RSBR, etc.) and in the beginning would download every free costume and buy every costume/level pack. Then my twins came along and I was so busy, I didn’t keep up with things.
So then when they got old enough, I introduced them to LBP. Then I find that there was a lot of Disney DLC I had missed out on (I had gotten the Toy Story level pack, but not all costumes) and that there had been an announcement that I had just missed all of it expiring and being no longer available. I got every other costume pack available and so now have hundreds of costumes, but have very few Disney ones.
My twins really love the game, especially my son. At 7 years old, he has made some really cool things (everything published under my PSN ID is really from him). I had hoped to just teach him about AND and OR gates, and he just took off and makes all sorts of complicated objects with timers, randomizers, material changers and other sensors and pretty much figures it out all on his own with just messing around with everything. Anyway, this age is perfect for them to have the content, they really love looking at the costumes and really want them, but I’m afraid Sony/Disney will not re-release again while they are this age.
I have tried talking on the phone to Sony to be able to buy any of it (most of them don’t even know what I am asking for since it was so long ago and other ones just say it can’t be done). I personally feel if you owned the game during the time the DLC was offered you should keep the right that you had to buy it. I know its all about licensing but I think this whole licensing DLC thing needs to have some consumer friendly laws made for it.
Anyway, I even tried emailing the Licensing department at Sony along with the Director of Licensing (won’t mention her name here, but ended up finding her on LinkedIn), and told my sob story, but didn’t get any type of response.
I am really willing to fork over premium money to them for this and can’t understand why Disney/Sony would not just want to continue to accept money for it. What would it hurt them to continue to offer it?
My son has figured out that he can search for the costumes in community levels and that if the costume is on a Sackbot, he can save the costume while he is controlling the Sackbot. Most of the times this results in it having a red exclamation mark where it says he does not own it, but other times he has gotten the costume.
He says that during the times that he has gotten the costume, he thinks it is because the person who made the Sackbot put a sticker or decoration on it and that made it not be flagged as DLC and then he could remove it after he saved it and it still lets him keep it. Not sure if that is true, but that is what he is thinking.
The other thing I have done is gotten the PS4 Savewizard and tried to find game saves. I only found one and it only had one costume I didn’t have but after I put the costume on a Sackbot and saved the level the Sackbot was in, after I reverted the save back to my original, I was able to go back into my saved level and get the costume again.
So, again, I would rather just pay for everything if Sony/Disney would let me, but since that doesn’t seem to be an option, I am reaching out here to see if anyone is able to help by either PMing me about publishing a level with Sackbots that are wearing the costumes, but with a sticker added to them or something (I’m talking about all the costumes listed here: https://littlebigplanet.playstation.com/news/last-chance-buy-disney-dlc-packs) or a location to a game save that could have them.
I know it just ends up with the costumes not really in the spot in the popit where the real costumes go and are just called “A costume”, but my kids don’t care about that. It’s really just two 7 year olds that love to go running around as the costumed characters.
The only other hope I’ve got is that as part of the Sackboy: A Big Adventure PS5 release, that they have a period of time of offering the costumes again, but it’s probably a low chance.
