I, like many others out there, have a lot of older games on my all-time top 10. There's definitely some bias in me in that I view these older games in a higher light than more recent games. So I'm curious. How many of your last 10 GOTYs have made it into your all-time top 10? For me, only Persona 5 has made that list. What about you?

Hmm... While I don't keep track of my GOTY ever year if I try and make a top 10 of all time I'd say that both Bloodborne and The Talos Principle has a place on that list. Otherwise mostly older gamer yes.

Yeah my 2010 game of the year would be fallout New Vegas and would at least be in my top five at the moment my 2011 would have been dark souls that's in the top 10 dark souls 2 in I believe 2014 is in the top 10 and blood-borne game of the year 2015 is in the top 10. Dark souls 3 might also make the top 10 that one I have to contemplate more. I guess if I limited my top 10 to 1 game per franchise that would alter it a bit though. I'm not at home so this will be a placeholder post for when I come up with what my top 10 definitely is.

I'll repost my top 9 grid here:

Bioshock Infinite would probably round out the top 10. So that's 7/10 games from the last decade or so.

Older games definitely have their charm, but despite growing up in the 90s I tend to prefer newer games. While there are a number of older games that have great stories, the voice acting and cinematic presentation gives the edge to newer games like Soma, Human Revolution, The Walking Dead and Bioshock Infinite. The original Deus Ex feels like a relic to me, and I couldn't get into it even at the time.

Talking XCOM, the modern games are just such a better experience than the classic ones. I could barely get into the old games tbh and such large squads are just clunky to me.

The star of The Division is the amazing environment, and it was simply not possible to create quite the same experience before this generation.

Darkest Dungeon is a game that could theoretically have been released in the 90s, but even there I feel like the developers have taken advantage of many new lesson in game design that improve the game.

Yep Bloodborne made it into my top 5 of all time. Alien Isolation is now in my top 10. BOTW made it into top 10. Rainbow Six Siege also made it into my top 10 (I don't usually include multiplayer shooters but this really was the best I've ever played).

Witcher 3 and Dark Souls made my personal top 10 and GOTY lists. A few games almost made my all-time top 10 like Sekiro Shadow Dies Twice, Red Dead Redemption, and Dishonored.

I love Doom 2016 but I don't know if I like it more than Duke 3D. I also really enjoyed BotW but still think LTTP has a slight edge over it, but it was the first Zelda game I have truly enjoyed since LTTP.

Celeste was my game of the year 2018 and I think there's room for it on my top 10 all time. The game was damn near platforming perfection start to finish. The difficulty curved was balanced perfectly and the new mechanics introduced along the way always kept the game feeling fresh.

I don't know, I'd have to think about my top 10 of all time list, top 20 would've been much easier as I know the games but not their particular order other than the top two, but I do know that the original Max Payne is the best TPP game in my books, and Quantum Break did came close to it - the gameplay, the story, to setting, the visuals, the sounds, everything is pretty much perfect just like in MP back in the days.

old timer from the 80s here, but games industry has become too diverse to call any one game a GOTY. I don`t give a crap to the likes of metacritic or GameAwards...

besides, my own tastes have changed with time. AI, multiplayer, procedural worlds, persistent user creations are some of the things that were not usually available in games from the 80s and 90s and make for a very engaging and in many ways superior gameplay than old time favorites. For instance, the hard survival gameplay of Don`t Starve is much more engaging than simply going left to right shooting and dodging bullets in Contra - it requires more than dexterity, requires much exploration and resource gathering and you watching and learning about your surroundings and developing clever strategies for survival. Plus, it`s an indie game that simply wouldn`t be possible back then... frankly, it`s a more engaging game than any Zelda, which btw as of late has been incorporating some of the features of the genre as well...

best way to do top 10 lists is by the era they belong to...
