The war chest! 💰💰

On a serious note, I also dont't hink they are that interested. They've already got so many studios now. I think they checked it out, dipped their toe in the water but weren't very serious. Would be a very expensive studio, and those IP'S are better kept multi platform

WB owns the IPs, WB Games does not, this would just be buying the studio, the people, not the IPs...

I don't think it's easy to buy them, especially Activision. Buying all of them would easily cost beyond $10 Billion.

Ehmm, Activision is one of the companies that is also interested in buying WB Games. I think you misread it that MS wants to buy Take Two, Activision and EA? Otherwise I don't get what you said!

Sony has directly confirmed that they cannot do that. So you can only calculate down from 10.28, and never, ever, upwards.

The “never upwards” part doesn’t just apply to PS5.

To paraphrase Dodkrake Dodkrake I believe his point is that PS5 should hit a higher percentage of its notional max compute power more often, because it makes more wattage available as load increases.

If Xsex isn’t using smartshift (still to be finally confirmed) then it is leaving some performance untapped exactly because it uses fixed clocks with cooling to a separate TDP for CPU and GPU, without the flexibility to allocate power between them.

So as of now we're expecting Xbox game news late July, and Xbox console news in August. And we're expecting more Sony game news in August. And we've got no inkling of any pricing plans, console or software, beyond an absurdly greedy pubs decision to increase the cost of a roster update from 60 to 70.

Are MS and Sony really playing chess with each other? Or are they just both completely unsure of how many hardware units will be available, when games will be ready, and what they can or should charge for all things next gen?

I don’t think it’s as complex as chess!

More like trumps or snap lol

So MS May event wasn’t good. Sony in June just needed to be better than that. Not 10x better - just a clearly observable step up which I think everyone agrees they were.

So now it’s back on MS to be better than Sony’s June event after which, Sony will try to outdo MS again. And that continues until next next gen or one or the other decides the game is up and stops competing.

As Niki Lauda said “the secret is to win while going as slowly as possible”. In business terms the secret is to win while committing as little resources or money as possible - that’s what we’re watching right now.

Doesn’t WB also have the Mortal Kombat studio? I think it would be a grey fit for MS expand g them with action/super hero games , fighting games and racing games ?

creatively MS showed Studio can still go about their business.

I think it would be a great fit for MS.

Again? Stop with your nonsense and misinformation, I've honestly ran out of ideas to explain this better. Keep your preconceived ideas.

I'll just drop this here, though.

2 cars, exact same aerodynamic coefficient, weight, well size, etc. Both have 100hp engines from engine to flywheel. If your standard efficiency from engine to actual wheel is 90% on one and 95% on the other, the later will be faster.

And now, I'll stop replying to trolls. Enjoy the rest of your day.

You can reiterate the same fundamentally wrong point all day long, it'll still be wrong.

I'm trying to think that you're not trolling.

Yes, that must be it, must be trolling. Can't just be refuting completely bogus attempts of making 10 > 12.

On the other hand, Smart Shift is a system that exchanges the energy budget between CPU and GPU

Precisely, it doesn't create magic power out of nothing.

It is doing nothing more than trading power from one component to another. That is it. It is not magically generating efficiency or tflops or anything of the sort. The XSX isn't using Smartshift because it doesn't need to.

To paraphrase Dodkrake Dodkrake I believe his point is that PS5 should hit a higher percentage of its notional max compute power more often, because it makes more wattage available as load increases.

I would love to know what ass you've pulled this bullshit FUD about the XSX apparently being incapable of supplying it's APU with sufficient amounts of power out of.

Go on, I'm waiting.

Just noticed that the correct name is actually Horizon II: Forbidden West! Notice the Roman number 2 under the "i" and between the lines. So, does that make Horizon name a registered game name for Sony? Or there is an older game that has it? Please don't bring Forza Horizon, be smarter. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

PS5 games gonna make true desktop 4K wallpapers! Already enjoying their pre-alpha ones!

Oh. You’re that guy .... you know the one who wants to argue about a tech issue but lacks the ability so just get all aggressive instead...

Seem like a lot of those have appeared again in the last 24 hours...

I presented the rationale - disprove it if you are capable.

It's just a stylized logo. Correct name of the game is still Horizon Forbidden West. It's called this way in every post. For example, official blog post.

So you have no intention of backing up your absurd claim that the XSX cannot provide it's APU with sufficient power.

Can't say that's surprising.

Nvidia 2080 super need PSU 600 - 650 watt recomended, OC versión To 12TFlops recomended 700wat, although there is not The same architecture is a good aproximation. The Next you can imagine.

Refrigeration also need more powerfull, 3 slot with 3 fans id recomended. 10nm vs 7nm is good but not Magic.

I have a question regarding smartshift that someone with more tech knowledge might be able to answer.
From what I can gather, AMD's technology is automatic and flexible, allowing power to change on the fly due to the demands of the scene. This is similar for the PS5, however after watching the digital foundry analysis and Mark cernys comments it seems like developers will be able to decide and allocate budgets based on the scene being rendered using the model SOC e.g. if a scene is gpu intensive power can be allocated to where its needed etc. Therefore would this allow for greater control over system resources, and might be why developers are praising PS5 design?

I don't think you like cats, do you?

I will want to talk to your manager.

One scratched me across the face when i was a child, my crime, patting it on the head, granted i was holding a baseball at the time.

Sorry, DOG LOVER HERE.

Dogs = Mans best friend.
Cat = Tiger
Tiger= man-killer.

Only cats i like are Cougars, older pussies lol .... not ancient ffs, before you start with your dirty memes Mastercornholio.

Hope that clears that all up, fleabag.:messenger_sunglasses:

It's ok, don't be apologetic, a lot of us older coots like cougars.

I find it hard to believe. In better times, MS, with all their money war chest, only showed interest in buying small studios, why would they shove a ton of money to acquire WB Studios in such a financially compromised year(pandemic, next gen release)?

Because now it would indeed make sense. And if we were playing a game, and my build was gamepass, then that would be the way to buff it.

It’s important to note that WB is the one selling.

...and there goes the HZD2 mounts guys:

(Totally speculating lol).

Tbh me and a friend were speculating this since Cerny talk. Like using flying and even swimming/underwater mounts is technically possible now because of the ps5 ssd tech. And I think this is just stretching the surface, GG probably already have much more mindblow stuffs in the game to show that nobody had though about.

I never made that claim.

If you’d care to refute the point I actually made please be my guest.

Rushing to the defence of an absurd claim is tantamount to making it yourself.

As for "untapped" potential of the XSX that Microsoft could get, they've already responded to the idea of it. They weren't interested in artificially increasing the on paper performance of the XSX.

If i were to steal from Final Bossman, this would be my Dos and Dont Dos for MS:

Do: Show next gen gameplay.
Dont Do: Show cross gen gameplay. Halo 5 is the only exception.

This is too tricky an ask I think. Not every game is going to have what you might call "next gen gameplay" and those that do are not always easily demonstrable in this sort of event where each game will have only a couple of minutes except for the bigger guns. So yeah, I agree with the Do but not the Dont Do. The Dont Do is inevitable.

Do: Show exclusives on par if not better than the Unreal Engine 5 demo.

Agree - they have to show some stuff which is obviously real-time, player controlled and on par with that UE5, validate and back-up the numbers.

Dont Do: Show indie games. No one cares. If people cared about indies, they would sell more and win GOTYs.

Disagree for a number of reasons. It shows diversity and support for the small game makers. GamePass needs smaller Indie titles to compliment the bigger hits. Indie titles are part of what MS stand for and want on their systems and so it should be part of the presentation. Sony captured a lot of that early generation and gave front and centre attention to titles in their big presentations. They lost their way with that in recent years but for me it's a plus point the position Shu has taken and the visibility of these sort of titles in their showing last month. Oh and for example ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untitled_Goose_Game#Awards

Do: Show us ray tracing, weather, destruction, photorealistic visuals and new combat mechanics a cut above Sony's best first party efforts this gen.
Dont Do: Show cinematic trailers like Hellblade 2. Time for cock teasing is over.

Agree here, show as much real-time as possible. All the bluster from both sides about how easy it is to develop for their systems, prove it.

Dont: No more most powerful talk. We get it. Just shut up and show us what you got.

It's one of their strap-lines currently so it will be there in force, it needs to be demonstrably backed up though - and that's going to be tricky to do.

Dont: Have montages of people saying one fancy catchy word. its pretentious and pointless.

(y)

Do: Innovate where Sony hasn't. Give us massive online games.
Dont Do: copy Sony's cinematic games.

I'd say more play to your strengths, be distinctive, demonstrate how you are offering something different.

Dont Do: Talk. No more talking. Please I cant handle anymore self flagellation.

Amen. I really liked the PS format. So little talk. Let the games do the talking.

You can't just flip a switch to enable something like that. You have to design a system around it. Microsoft could do it if they had the same type of hardware that Sony has. Not saying that what Sony did is the best thing to do but it certainly wasn't faked.

It could be some of those collaborative projects between the two hardware companies, AMD and Sony, they came up with that, which makes it exclusive for PS5 this gen, at least.

I'd prefer Microsoft, Take-Two is putting a casino in every IP they own.
If they put micro transactions in the next X-COM game i'll be pissed, At least Firaxis is only chopping Civ to pieces at the moment.
I prefer they remain multiplatform than MT infested, at the least with the former I can still play the game if I don't have a specific platform.

What I would consider a couple of mega tons coming from Sony might be different then what others feel would be huge.

Sony did not unload both barrels in its first show.

Xbox is going to have a very good show

Strap in we are about to see some next gen stuff.

PS - When I say next gen stuff I don't only mean graphics.
Megaton to me means VR.

Perhaps it's too soon for that, but have you heard anything regarding PSVR 2?

And finally in answering you've pointed out I was correct.

As you rightly say, MS could have got more out of their system and chose not to (although they only talked about variable clocks - not smartshift). Exactly what I said in my first point posted.

Sony did chose to get the power.

QED thanks for your time.

I wish MS would also use variable boost clock in XSX. Developers would be still able to optimize for default 1.8 GHz profile and everything above that would be a bonus (higher dynamic resolution, or 3-5 fps more). XSX GPU would be 14.6 TF with 2.2 GHz clock.

What's interesting MS also dont want any variables in their I/O speed. MS engineer has said their goal was to build I/O with a sustained 2.4 GB/s transfer, but XSX SSD must be faster than that if it's able to deliver 2.4 GB/s at minimum.

Going by their config it looks like they are relying on the cooling to maintain 2.4GB/s rather than relying on higher speed and more expensive flash? The SSD is encased in a heat sink and then this contacts that huge central heat sink 'spine' and then the system fan further pulls air through the entire system.
