Rumour: Dualsense lasts 10-12 hours

I usually only play 3-4 hour session, so this is acceptable.

For "concerned users" that say Xbox controller have much better battery life, why should I care tho? Can I use it while I play on PS5?

Came to say this.

If your sessions last for longer than 10 hours straight then the problem is you not the controllers battery life.

It's not about playing a game for 10 long straight hours. It's about not charging your controller every 2+ sessions with Xbox Controllers. With DuelSense you'll probably have to keep it charging after 1 session if you've played any games less than 10 hours.

Look, I don't care.

When I'm not playing I just put my controller on charge, I do the same for the controller I use on PC and for my wireless headset.

I also put my phone on charge when I go to sleep at night. Every night.

As long as its enough to get through a single play session it's a non issue.

Imagine bitching about this while advocating devices that rely on AA batteries in 2020.

Because it is not an issue.
Depends on the person.
I hate the sticks on DualShocks.
I broke my thumbs when I was young and it’s painful to play.
I play with an asymmetrical razer controller.
Shaped like an Xbox one controller.
It’s more ergonomic.
So I’ll need to buy another one for PS5 if I want haptic vibrations....great.

I'm rotating between 3 DS4's that have nearly dead batteries, each one lasts me the few hours I'll be playing for a sesh and then I plug it in when I'm done and use another one the next time. Controller battery life is an absolute non-issue for me. I'd honestly prefer it if they went back to wired controllers so I didn't have a bluetooth transmitter on top of my balls every time I play a game. But I want to run around and do cartwheels while I play videogames, wireless is progress! Could not care less. Like when I think of what the benefits are of wireless controllers, the main one is "you don't trip over the wire", I'm not a retard and wired stuff works fine for me, doesn't require charging and you can use a wired controller forever if you don't break it.
You do realize you can use the DS4 wired? Get a long MicroUSB cable and enjoy your wired, no battery charge required life.

Not that good. My Switch and Xbox controllers last forever. While 10 hours isn’t bad since I’m not ever going to game that much in one day, I’m a bit worried about how much it will last after a few years. My launch PS4 controller only lasts a few hours now.

I prefer rechargeable batteries personally but I mostly use it wired anyway, on PC. I was holding out for these new controllers but I'm not so sure. The xbox one is too similar to the One I have, and I'm tempted by the DS5 for gyro and because the form is much better. Is that enough over the SN30 Pro+? Hmmm.

A big focus for me is also how they're gonna fare for mobile gaming (emulation & streamed).

That's not even 20 seconds and you know it. Plugging in the controller after every session takes more time than changing batteries once every few weeks. Also you have the option to use an akku as well. Options are good, trust me.
We talking about people lazy enough to not get off their fatasses off the couch to put a disc in a console and you expect people to get up to go buy batteries and then put them in the controller....?

But the vast mojority of the games won't use it at all, just like this gen. For those games the features are just a useless battery drainer.

Makes no difference to what I said originally it's a far more advanced controller and to be honest 12 hrs isn't bad for the tech you get plus most people keep there pads on a charging dock these days ..

If you've got 3 phones that are very similar and cost the same. One of them you have to charge every night, the other 2 only every 3 nights. Wouldn't you think it would be nice if the other company would also include a better battery so you get more out of your phone?

Do you really game for 10-12 hours straight?

That's the question everyone should be asking.

For me I game 2-3 hours at the most. So for me 10-12 hours is more than enough.

Also a big tip to make sure you never run out of battery. After gaming just....

There is no need that your more advanced controller drains the battery if the gimmicks are not used. I can turn off useless gimmicks on my smartphone. But maybe it can be turned off and we see >20 hors. Who knows? Those are all rumours for now.

What? This analogy makes no sense. I have one phone and when I was looking at new phones I bought one that will last me through my day without needing a top up - I got one that suits my use habits, nothing more, nothing less.

As I mentioned above, if the rumoured battery life is true, this controller suits my use habits. Hence I don't care what "alternatives" might exist, I'm happy with the product as it is.

Wait, Switch Pro Controllers die?

Geez, PS fans sure are a defensive bunch. I absolutely hate my DS4's battery life, it's awful and this doesn't sound much better.
I seriously dont understand these kind of posts.

Who is defensive? One set of people like the improvement over dualshock 4 and the other set thinks its shit and not enough. All I see are people debating that. and this is a forum that exists for just that.

Where does the defensive nonsense come from?

Lol who the fuck games for 10 - 12 hours to complain about battery life.

Jesus. Console warrioring in full force.
Recently, I've played last of us 2 8 hours on weekend. That mean, I had to take the cable and connect it to ps4 in rest mode every night, otherwise battery would run out on the half of 2nd day and I would have to reconnect.
If it was 40 hours, I would need to reconnect it only once a week. if it had AA batteries, I could swap for new/recharged ones and it would last longer. Shitty, small internal battery is a loose loose situation

You Halo got to the Xbox guys when they are using a controllers battery life as fuel. 12 hours is more than enough, plug it in when you're done. This is such a none issue.

Exactly, people are thinking disposables or the awful rechargeables of the past, but Eneloops have been around forever and are amazing.
Flipping batteries is not good, common what is this? You’re putting up with it, that’s all.

Imagine hoping the next iPhone is powered by interchangeable AA’s.

It takes me literally 2 seconds to plug in my charging cable after I turn off my PS4.
I also have a spare powerbank that I hook upto my controlle1r if its low on battery while I'm gaming.
I sit near 4 wall outlets so hooking up my phone charging plug to my dualshock 4 takes me less than a minute.

If you can sit and game for 8 hours non stop then you can spare a few seconds or a minute to do the above.

Seriously I dont get the outrage over all this from some of you.

Any improve over DS4 shit battery life is a win.

BTW, Controller War is a new one I must say.

Well when those "gimmicks" don't get used we can have a conversation about that then but as of now you know as much as me and that's nothing , I'm sure 3rd party's won't use 100% of features nor do I expect them to unless Sony gives them an incentive but there's definitely more going on with it then your usual pad and you're probably going to able to turn a few things of on the dashboard .

I get that it's not as slick, but the flexibility is nice and you don't have to worry about ever replacing a dead controller. Eneloops last a long time, so you aren't changing them often anyway.

And I'm saying this as a PS guy who is only mildly annoyed by DS4 battery life.

To be fair, USB-C quick charge is a big deal though.

"Lol here comes the xbox trolls!"
"Just buy another controller/3ft long cable!"
"Lol who the fuck games for 10 - 12 hours to complain about battery life." -You

This battery life isn't great and you should expect better.

If you turn off vibration I'm guessing it can last much longer. I have a wireless x360 controller for my PC and that thing lasts over 20 hours.

Well, now I wonder if that rumor counts the unnecessary functions that drains the battery. But 12 hours, thats a lot of time imo.

10-12 hours... Why can't they put proper batteries in the controller or create something that doesn't drain it that quickly

In what world do you live to think that 12 hours is quick drain?

It's crazy that people today would prefer to put AA batteries in a controller. I can deal with charging a controller occasionally or *gasp* playing with it plugged in as long as I am not replacing batteries all the time. Replacing batteries is bush league and just MS gouging their customers (similar to their storage strategy on XSX). Who doesn't have at least one extra controller for multiplayer?
You can't even have fun gyrating and motioning with the competition's controller, because the battery cover may just fall off.....I'd take an internal battery that can be fast charged with next gen features over a 100 hour lasting controller with last gen features....

I prefer the removable battery solution on my xbox one pads to my ds4 as I have AA batteries readily available from my charger for a whole range of things so I'm never more than a few seconds without fully charged batteries.

Also if and when they stop lasting as long I mark them with a permanent marker and use them on less demanding gadgets like remote controls etc.

Mate, I would rather a controller only last 2 hours if it means I don't have to buy fucking rechargeable batteries for it.

It's the 21st century, only toys and tv remotes should be on AA/AAA batteries by now.
I'm extremely happy you are not in charge. I prefer options not a company forcing me to do it their way with substandard items.

Since console controllers bacame wireless I've always had two of them. One is always charging while I use the other. When the one I'm using is low on battery I change them. Been doing it for 20 years now.
