Most improved studios for next generation?

I don't think Guerrilla Games, Rockstar, Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica belong on the list.
They're the crème-de-la-crème and big improvements are a given with any of their AAA titles.

I'd go with From and CD Project Red.
Amazing studios, but still can use that extra oomph to get on-par with the aforementioned studios.
They're included in a different list :)

Obsidian and Ninja Theory with big money behind them

Playground Games...personally they rival Sony’s top dogs and cannot wait for their next game

Sony Bend got their feet wet with Days Gone. I expect good things from them

Moon Studios...Ori games are just magnificent.

ND, Insomniac, Santa Monica, From Software, Capcom, Rockstar, CD Project Red will continue to impress

Have we actually got any reason to expect Playground's new Fable (if that's what it is) to be stellar? It's their first attempt at a non-racing game, isn't it?

Obsidian & Ninja Theory. The games they managed with the budgets they did where amazing regardless if it was your taste or not.

The hiring sprees these companies have been going on have been ridiculous, the money is now there for the moon to be the limit.

Obsidian, yes absolutely.

Ninja Theory, less convinced. They’ve done big budget games before (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) and they bombed.

I think there's a few studios that will rise in the ranks next generation

1. Sucker Punch: I think Sucker Punch will stick the landing with Ghost of Tsushima and become even more widely known

2. Cygames: Mostly known for their mobile projects but are dipping their toes heavily into the AAA realm, Cygames is already showing a ton of potential with impressive looking titles like Project Awakening and Granblue Fantasy Relink

3. Bend Studio: With Days Gone, Bend Studio showed that with a few tweaks and polish, that they can make great games in the AAA space. Now that they've got their foundation, they can build on it with Days Gone's sequel, Syphon Filter or a new IP

What studios do you think will be most improved next generation?

Here are the studios that I believe will continue to be great and the cream of the crop (in no order)

1. From Software
2. Naughty Dog
3. CD Projekt Red
4. Rockstar
5. Insomniac Games
6. Techland
7. Guerrilla Games
8. Santa Monica
9. Capcom
10. Platinum Games
No love for any of the studios in Microsofts stable I see.

CDProjectRed leapfrogger Ubisoft as the biggest european developer with just one game (Witcher 3)

So yes they deserved to be mentioned

Heres hoping Cyberpunk 2077 will be another greatest hits

Definitely think Ninja Theory and Sony Bend are going to solidify themselves as cream of the crop studios this upcoming gen. They’re both trending upward and if what we’ve seen from Ninja Theory so far with Hellblade 2 and Projeft Mara are any indication it’s going to be a crazy gen for them.

Oh dear 🙄

I’ve met Dan in person, he’s not. He's a normal Czech guy, that grew up under communism and is anti-SJW because funnily enough he doesn’t like ideologues telling him how to think or what he’s allowed to say.

I was banned from Resetera for being too left wing so it's possible I overstated the case.

Guerrilla games for me, killzone was just garbage for me. So much so that i was hesitant about playing HZD, which turned out to be one of my favorite games of this gen

I hope Bethesda gets their shit together and that Starfield won't suck. I hope Famito Ueda and PLAYDEAD spend that EPIC money well and that their next projects will be as amazing as their previous best.

What I'm also looking forward to is to see Polish gamdev continue to grow absolutely killing it all across the board from AAA blockbusters to indie as it did throughout this gen.

Arc System Works is one to watch. They've quietly expanded their label as a publisher to get more and more indie titles out there. They've regularly partnered with massive industry names like Konami and Bandai Namco on certain titles. They've made big splashes in the FGC this gen with Guilty Gear Xrd and DBFZ.

I expect at least one or two non-fighting game hits from them within the next 5 years, either some indie game they publish or some in-house project that blows us all away.

Another dev I'm keeping an eye on is indieszero. I think they're one of the most interesting little devs right now. They did Retro Game Challenge 1 and 2 on DS, the Theatrerhythm games, some work on NES Remix, and lately they made Sushi Strikers. They absolutely have the arcade-like fundamentals down but have yet to get their breakout hit.

Asobo Studios.
What They did with Plague Tale, including making their own engine was amazing for the size of the studio.
To see what they are achieving with Flight Simulator at the moment is mind blowing.
If they get some real funding to make a follow up it can be GOTY material. What they did with the first was borderline black magic for its budget.

Square Enix for sure.

This gen they released great games that were huge sales successes, FF XV and VII Remake, KH3 was the best selling of all. Nier Automata was a strong hit. DQ 11 was also very good.

Also after playing Remake I can't wait to see what they can do next gen. Just hope they stick with Unreal so they don't waste time on making engines and they seem to be already familiar with how it works.

I'm about 4 hours into Ghost of Tsushima and Sucker Punch has done a terrific job, it's amazing and they have a great foundation. I obviously don't know how the story ends yet but I'm just going to say it

I'm already excited for the potential sequel to Ghost of Tsushima with the power the next generation will bring 🔥

I think Guerilla Games is going to be releasing GotY quality titles starting with Horizon. They more than doubled in size and Sony seems to be giving them a metric ton of support.

Agreed. Guerrilla Games only had to make a few improvements to Horizon's sequel and I'm betting they've made the adjustments

Cygames is being ambitious AF when they talk about Project Awakening and Granblue Fantasy Relink looks fantastic. It only remains to be seen if they can deliver.

And i totally agree about Sony Bend and Sucker Punch. They both leveled up this gen.

Really hope Ninja Theory can blow us away next-gen. I loved DmC (perhaps even more so than other mainline DMC titles, don't @ me) so ever since that title I've had a soft spot for them. Excited to play Senua 2 but I'm even more interested in a new IP by them, especially knowing that it would be backed by all dat filthy MS money.

From Software I feel might be personal favorite studio going into next gen.

Capcom will do their thing, seems like they back on track, just need to make sure their fighters are good out the gate.

Ninja Theory is the one to look out for imo. I wanna see what they have.

That's what I'm waiting to find out, if Cygames can storm out of the gate with 2 incredible games that would be huge for their future

I'm so excited for Sucker Punch and Bend on the PS5, they deserve all of the success coming to them

Last week Gaf made me buy Greedfall, now this post will make me buy A Plague Tale. No mercy for my backlog at all :messenger_weary:

Both are 65% off on PSN at the moment.

CD Projekt Red made the biggest leap, with each title they improve massively, I mean even the expansions are big improvements over the main game in terms of gameplay and even story and exploration. If CDPR continue with this by the next gen they will be among the greatest developers of all time. Also they are so customer friendly, so good, people give them as an example when talking about how to treat your gamers (customers).

Yeah totally! If CDPR continues with critically acclaimed games then they'll be huge next gen. Here's hoping that Cyberpunk 2077 is great. I can't wait for The Witcher spinoff

Cygames is not even close AAA.

their studio is mobile focus with an Osaka branch of 6 people doing a PS4 engine for 6 years or more, they had so many issues that now is *ps5*. Is just an image for investors.

This isn't true. And we're getting the release date for Granblue Fantasy Relink this December. The game looks great
