Fable Hasn't Even Hired a Lead Writer or Game Designer Yet

It’s a narrative based RPG... and it doesn’t have a lead writer yet.

How do you know they don't have any? Teams can have multiple leads. I imagine this game will have a ton of storylines and dialogue, so multiple teams of writers that will also have multiple leads.

Oh my god. Just take a breath, and go look at the job advertisements. All of them state how early this game is in development. Nothing much could have been done on it.

I’m not posting here again, because it’s a hiding to nothing, but the adverts speak for themselves. This game has had nothing done on it yet. It’s YEARS away.

You must be joking. They started hiring two years ago.

they do actually have a lead writer. His name is Martin Lancaster and he worked on the Batman Arkham franchise. What they don't have is a lead script writer. There is a major difference between both.

A lead script writer is basically a person who writes a cutscene in a game. He writes the behaviour to be displayed, how to present contextual subjects, etc. What this tells me is that they don't have cutscenes ready for the game.

What's seriously going on at MS right now? So this game is coming over 2023 or later then right? If so, why showcase it before the XSX console even launches?

This team is two years old iirc. Of course the game is far away. Game development takes a lot of time and manpower, hence why they're offering up positions. Something that often happens when development is ramping up. Does not mean they don't know what they're doing and that nothing has been done.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a team and project at an early stage,

To get people to invest in the Series X with IP promises down the line , probably Conker and Gears "announcements" down the line

Fucking hell make it stop.

I'll give you a hint since you don't seem to get it.

Most of these ads have been there for over a year to two years (webarchive helps). They simply added the Fable name to them, which is normal when a game moves from unrevealed to revealed. That's pretty literally how people started to guess that a new fable may have been in development.

Big studios hire for this kind of positions all the way through development. Often even in the last months because, for example, they may need a lead writer to helm a team to write a bunch of additional subquests.

You picked polar opposite examples. From the time The Last Guardian was announced until it was released, Naughty Dog announced and RELEASED Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Left Behind and Uncharted 4.
Your point? TLOU went an entire generation before the sequel and there was 1 1/2 uncharted games the entire generation. Development takes time.

...So what has Playground Games been doing the past 2.5 years?

Working on Fable and likely the next Horizon (alongside Horizon 4 DLC). Hiring leads with 1-2 years old ads does not in any shape or form mean that development has just started or is even close to have just started. That's an ongoing process that can last for a game's whole development life or almost as the team consistently ramps up in size, which means new teams are formed to bolster the teams tey already have.

So where the fuck is Horizon 5 then??????????
Since they rebooted Forza's engine for Forza 8, I wonder if Forza Horizon 5 will take longer as well since Playground Games and Turn 10 share the same engine or will they just work on Fable for now

Yeah well but it's already 2 years with no Forza, Motorsport is long way off and now no Fable and no Horizon... : (

CG trailers are worthless.
They have their place in the marketing side as advertisements.

Although I'm not a fan of announcing games with CGI trailers. Especially when it comes to AAA games on next-gen consoles.
If it must be a cinematic, at least have it running in-egnine or in realtime.

I don't think this is FUD guys.

Lead AI Engineer says: "You will join the team and project at an early stage, giving you the rare opportunity to shape the technology used to build a large-scale AAA title."

Chief Engineer : "Playground Games is looking for a Chief Engineer to build and lead a world-class Engineering team for Fable, working on our open world action / RPG project."

"At an early stage".. and looking for a Chief engineer to "built a team."

This isn't one or 2 leads they are looking for.. to add to other leads.. this looks like there is no real engineering teams in place.

I mean they are looking for both "Chief" and "Co-Chief" Engineers... and those adds are like 2 months old (from June.)

I would be inclined to agree, but the game has been credibly rumored for like 2 years and all they could muster for an unveil was a comically brief workstation CG rendered teaser of zero actual substance. This doesn't really suggest there's some deep in development opus hiding behind closed doors.

I'm gonna be honest, my theory Microsoft rushed into next-gen because of Sony keeps feeling more and more real. Basically, I think they told themselves they CAN'T be PS3 showing up late and over-priced when someone else already has so much mindshare. Call me a conspiracy theorist or whatever but it's feeling like that... because didn't we hear how the Rare game doesn't even have a pinned down gameplay concept yet? Now Halo Infinite is delayed and this as well? Tell me I'm not crazy.

TBiddy said it's trolling and FUD. So it is FUD.

I just checked Guerrilla Games LinkedIn and they have many openings for positions that seems to be for a game in early development such as "(Game) Writer".

We are looking at job listings now from Dualshockers of all places as confirmation of this game being 4 years out?

Read through the careers page yourself.

The listings literally claim they are for a game early in development.. they are hiring both "Chief Engineer" and "Co-Chief Engineer" (those aren't merely team leads, that's the actual head engineers for the project)...

The game is very early in development, this would likely be considered pre-production at this point.

It seems like everyone today wants to jump on the hyperbole express.

In my day job, I haven't had a direct report manager (lead) for like, a year and a half. I still get my shit done. Job Postings =/= Progress

Best game coming out in the next year is Microsoft Flight Simulator. That being said Xbox barley even makes first party games. But Sony does a poor job as well. Its just MS is allot worse.

I buy all systems but my kids got into gaming last year and half and I went from buying one of every console my life with building a new gaming PC every few years. To having to buy two of the same console and ditch my gaming PC's.

Right now I have two Xbox One X's and three Switch's mostly for animal crossing.

I am split on PS5 and Xbox series. I have to decide soon as I will be playing new released games that will carry over.

Games usually have a reveal schedule that in most cases ramps up from a cinematic teaser trailer. This doesn't mean that a lot of work has not been done.

I worked in this industry. Trying to take a job listing as progress on any video game is silly and uneducated to how games are actually made.

They have 7 advertisements claiming the project is at an "early stage."

You guys are ignoring that tidbit.. and ignoring the sheer magnitude of the listings here.

It's not just various "Leads", it's the Chief/Co-Cheif engineer as well. That's the top dog engineers on the project, and they aren't in place yet.. advertising the opportunity to "build a team."

I work in IT and job roles don’t mean as much as they use to. If you’re the person who knows how to do the job then you’re the person who ends up doing the job. I bet if you go ask some game designers what they know, they’ll probably list off stuff that people spend years to specialize in.

So they lied when they posted 7 job listings in June claiming the project was at an early stage?

And this is not "a job listing." It's 36 job listings.. many of them leads/chief..

Come on guys.. lol
