I hope you're right, I really do. FWIW, if these sort of projects have multiple leads, why use "Lead" in the titles to begin with? Why not something like "Principal" or "Chief", etc? When I think of the term "Lead" I think of it as a singular person unless it's being attached to a lead team of the project development, as an example.

Unfortunately, even if this is a common practice, most people don't know of it and it just compounds on the Halo Infinite delay that was announced today, so to uninformed it will seem like something of a blow along those lines.

Playground games have been very upfront about them taking their time to staff up. They announced they had what, 60 people hire by the start of 2020? And they're aiming for 200?
They even said it's the first hirings that takes the longest time because they have to be right.

A team of an average of about 30 people will of course not have made much tangible progress on a AAA RPG.

I understand the disappointment, but gamers caused it themselves, imo. This really isn't news for anyone paying attention.

They can still operate without those for now. The next guy higher up makes the decisions instead or they make decisions collectively. Or people with strong personalities or who have a lot of respect among the team can often lead or direct others unofficially. The artists can still draw and make things. The coders can still work on the graphics and visuals. The writers can still brain storm ideas. It's not he head/lead who comes up with everything, they just have more influence/power than the rest.

Part of my hate for their e3-equivalent this year is due to the same reason I didn’t care for the early xbox one e3 events.

of the actual gameplay shown, they often looked disappointing while most of the games shown in general were just cgi. Yes, it’s nice to know fable is in development but holy shit who asked for MOAR cgi reveals?

I think this is going to be the case for many first party games - Microsoft or Sony - so I wouldn't even expect many Next Gen first party titles in 2021. For example, I doubt Horizon 2 is coming out next year.

Those are plans so not set in stone. Uncharted 4, Days Gone, TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima have all been delayed. And we should expect Sony first party games to not being delayed despite track record of the contrary, a new hardware and Covid19 ?
