I don't understand your point? The "app store" you install fortnite on your computer is the Epic store, they own it. Xbox PlayStation Nintendo, Google and Apple all get cuts of sales on there platform.
Now the why not 40 or 50% I guess its because the industry standard is 30%. Epic wants to push that lower, doesnt mean every one else does.
Why is it the "industry standard"? And when did that start? Think about those two things.
The point I was trying to make is that the iPhone and Android phones are basically computers. They run general purpose operating systems and are nearly as powerful as laptops. This is absolutely the case for iOS where we are about to have the same chips powering iPhones, iPads and Macs, and very nearly the same operating system code.
Computers should be open and allow you to install whatever you want. MacOS does this. Windows does this. Linux does this. Just because you put one computer in your pocket and another in your carry bag or on your desk, shouldn't dictate where your software comes from.
So just like I said above. Apple can have their store. The 30% would be fine, IF there was an open alternative that allowed you to install whatever you wanted from elsewhere. That is the point. Epic has no choice but to engage in payola if they want to provide certain services to the users.
There is no option.
We are dealing with an oligopoly in the handheld computer market that has placed unnecessary restrictions that result in rent-seeking on behalf of two of the largest corporations on the planet.
Microsoft should bring back Windows on the phone and just say hey all, no App Store requirements. Install from wherever you want.
