Gamepass Effect? Xbox One sold just 17k in July NPD

Did Phil say he doesn't care that much about console sales because he knew July NPD numbers were going to be terrible? Can Gamepass maintain steady growth if Xbox moves low hardware numbers? Either way you need hardware to utilize Gamepass may it be a PC or Xbox.

PS4 150k
XB1 17k

Xbox One X has been obseleted, and another model. But these sales are so ridiculously low, that doesn't explain it. Maybe MS have stopped re-supplying units since April/June.

It's impossible to find new stock for xbox one X out there. I had to settle for a refurbish one

See above they've discontinued XB1X so no wonder.

They discontinued it for a reason and continued selling the One S (which is still being produced) why do you think that is?

The One X sells less than the One S. If you're only selling 17K xbox ones how many One X do you think you're selling?

I think ending up X1X was stupid move, because I am not sure how many people would settle for S version....seems like I was right.

Well i saw twitter posts showing a target store leak of Xbox One S version 2, maybe they let the well dry up to make room for v2?

Those are really bad numbers compared to the competition IMO. Regardless of the cause, a 9-1 split for the major competitor is a bad sign for the brand. I don't see how this can be attributed to gamepass though.

More concerning for MS is they've got the momentum of a wet tissue going into the new gen its slowed so much. Strong exclusives at the tail end of PS's last 2 gens has helped them massively but MS havent been taking notes but doing the opposite.

They just don’t seem to be sending any to stock at all. It’s rare to see a Switch, it’s uncommon to see a PS4, I haven’t seen any Xbones at retail in months.

Obviously the SAD and Scorpio won’t be getting restocked, they are discontinued. But I have no idea why they are slacking so bad on the S.

Also, what does GamePass have to do with this, lol.

Financially it would serve them well to just drop the console wars and go for the gamepass model and if they could find a way to keep bringing big guns like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 untied of a console launch they will have a chance to grow even bigger than Sony.

Doesn't mean if X1 consoles are discontinued in July, there are no consoles in sales. Bunch of retailers had X1 in warehouses or on the shelves. Btw. who would by X1S if X1X was so dirt cheap.

Head honcho says he doesn't care about selling the box... doesn't support the box with quality exclusives relative to the competition... etc...

Safe to expect consumers to show in kind the same love, or lack there of. Everything is going to be fine I'm being told -- in alternate universes. Makes me even question whether that 2-3 million hardcore will even be there in November for them. At this point anything is possible with them.

Why would Gamepass have an effect on sales?, unless you mean people just buying Gamepass on PC instead.
Nope
It's called "We are out of stock" effect

But nice try :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Gamepass shouldn't have much to do with these sales.
....This has nothing to do with Game Pass though?

But the internets told me Gamepass would move hardware. Plus lots of gamers on these same internets saying they are choosing Xbox due to Gamepass. Is this one of those vocal minority situations?

Well I think One X sales must have been very low that stock being sent to retailers was tiny several months leading up to the discontinued announcement.

Did you even read the tweet you posted?

This is a hardware thread talking about the recent abysmal hardware sales and the tweet you posted says their hardware was down 30% in the last FY.

Did you even read the tweet I posted?

The tweet I posted is talking about $$$$$$$$$$$.

Hopefully its people waiting on XSX, and this is actually a good sign. I dont know why anyone would buy a XB1 now. Then again i dont know why anyone would buy a PS4 now, this close to next gen, and PS4 is still doing ok so fuck knows.
People still buy PS4 right now because
1) They’re replacing a broken console (least likely)
2) They’re buying it for the first time because it’s got an amazing library of exclusives that are mostly now, dirt cheap.
3) They don’t know that the PS5 will be almost fully back-compat/don’t give a shit anyway, and wouldn’t pay launch prices even if the console let you walk on water

I don't think the OP was attributing it to Gamepass so much as poking fun at the idea that Gamepass is, by itself, a game-changing system-seller.
