You started the arguing on this point so don't call it ridiculous now. I disagree with your assessment of what someone in their right mind would use 20m for. I've always used it for once we reach multiples of anything. I've definitely said a game has sold millions when it reaches 2 million before and thought nothing of it
See you keep being really aggressive in your assertions so I really don't wanna let that stand. I completely disagree. It's not not a good look. It's just as impressive as saying the amount. It takes less space or more depending on how you word it. It's not misleadingThis is the stupidest conversation I've ever had on here. You ignored the point of the post completely and zoned in on one tiny thing just to have an argument.
I'm going to repeat myself one more time. It doesn't matter what you do - nobody who has any influence on these things would call 20m tens of millions of copies. It's misleading. It's less impressive than just saying the amount. It takes more space.
People will instantly know what you're trying to do and it's not a good look.
Jim Ryan on the PS5 price:
"I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games... all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform."
Get ready for the $599 disc version and the $499 digital version.
On my GPU calculations based on last gen, it's the XSX that's already taking a signficant hit, PS5 could be possibly on the same price or slightly less, its the most important division Sony has, but it could be anything:
1) Sony taking big losses per unit and using its market power to have a huge gap lead like the current generation
2) Sony selling at the same price as XSX without big losses and using its market power to still have lead over Xbox in a smaller margin
3) Sony taking zero loss, being more expensive than XSX, and accepting a second place but with profits from the start and likely just a bit behind of Xbox due to its market power. I think this is a least likely scenario.
k....but he wants a next gen console. In that specific scenario then sure but didn't they say current gen would play the games for a couple years?
It saves no one any real money. They are trying to do what Xbox attempted last gen: usher in the all digital console age. I suspect this to be that last Gen with optical driveshow much is a disc drive these days realistically? Does it really save sony/ms that much from a manufacturing standpoint?
I know there are software implications but just wondering from a cost perspective
I'm not trashing or endorsing the console holy crap dude. I'm just addressing this specific scenario cause he said he didn't care about graphics. And I didn't know if he had a current thingk....but he wants a next gen console.
Lucky for him, there's a next gen budget console with a more capable CPU than both the X1X and the PS5 for $300. You have to realize that some people want new hardware at a reasonable price right? How much more attractive is that price when the specs are bonkers and the only downside is sub4K native(in this instance we can pretend that ML doesn't exist and sub4K is a deal breaker)
Messaging is going to be key for Sony. If they price at $399/$499, people will inevitably ask why the DE is $100 more than the Series S, not knowing that Series S is a less powerful machine while the PS5 DE is just a diskless PS5 with all the same internals.
I don't think Sony can afford selling PS5 under production cost like MS. Not again. Not by huge margin at least. MS can bleed money just to prove a point.
I honestly expected these machines to go for 600+$. I mean, lets be real, these things aren't made from paper.
I doubt, Sony can't win price wars this time, only game wars.
id like to know if xcloud will be on the consoles themselves. why not let a series S user stream the game in 4k if they wanted to?
They're taking in a lot more money this time than last time. They have a digital console that will make lots of money long term due to high PSN game prices and no retail cut. They have PS4 that is still selling and making them tons of money to make up for whatever ps5 loses on hardware (not to mention PSN PSNOW and software profits from ps5). So yes the PlayStation division can take a loss on hardware just as much as the Xbox division can (which does not benefit from MS' overall profits)I don't think Sony can afford selling PS5 under production cost like MS. Not again. Not by huge margin at least. MS can bleed money just to prove a point.

Heard PS5 SSD really expensiveWhy would the PS5 cost more?
Says he's not starting a console war but came into this thread exaggerating about the PS5 price... I love how you basically had no response to anything I actually said besides the last line, hence why I said it in the first place.Me starting a console war lol. If anything your last sentence was more war starting that anything I’ve ever said. Get real buddy.
lol "compete". There is no competition. Telling you all that Sony would be foolish to match. They can price if at $599 and it will easily sell out. Some of you are REALLY underestimating the Sony brand.
Sony could set the PS5 console at 599 and still outsell Microsoft.RIP Sony
Heard PS5 SSD really expensive
Wow ... I was not expecting this. Surely they will be loosing money on both consoles. Anyways if true the pricing is very aggressive. Let us see how it goes.
Sonys chip is working on much higher frequency (If previous RDNA generation is any indication then almost on chip max frequency) which makes producing chips way more expensive. MS also can repurpose partially not working chips to make XSSes. Sony need to throw them away. I think PS5 APU can be more expensive to produce at the end especially because XSS exists. On my GPU calculations based on last gen, it's the XSX that's already taking a signficant hit, PS5 could be possibly on the same price or slightly less, its the most important division Sony has, but it could be anything:
Isn't that the expected price? Seems to me the main thing is whether the digital will be $100 or $50 less due to long term profits on an all digital platformWhen Sony drops PS5 for 499 for the disc version you're all going to be shocked
I just can't see them doing anything else.
Once people play the games, it'll be obvious. No one has EVER had an issue paying $399 for a new console. It's MS that will have to explain why their "new" console is only $299 at launch.

That's only because it's the truth. Microsoft made the Xbox One $100 more than their competition because of one stupid peripheral gimmick. To compare, I gave a nice friendly little jab to mess around a little bit, but you come on here to bait people and start crap with nothing to back it up with.
As I said, PS5 isn't going to be more expensive, but go ahead and hold onto your little pipe dream, I know it'll make you excited, but most people on here don't care.
at this point everyone is exaggerating the price point for the PS5 because know actually knows it. You reply to my quote saying “please stop the console war junk” yet you reply with a ridiculous line then reply again with another war starting statement. Your a clown that’s all you are. Am I clown too? Dam straight I am.Says he's not starting a console war but came into this thread exaggerating about the PS5 price... Same thing as PS5 DE. Every game sold on a digital console is new and they make higher profits due to no retail cut. Then theres the store prices for the digital sales which usually take MUCH longer to be discounted and are almost always higher priced than the physical versions after a few weeks. It does seem a cheap price. I guess they'll recoup the money with game-pass subscriptions after a year or two.
Well I'm with you on PS5 being $499 especially if XSX is that. I do think digital will be $399 to get it close to series X And they'll justify it to their shareholders by saying it'll make more money long term for the reasons I listed in the previous postFor me it is!!! But I keep seeing people saying "449" now and "399"... no way.
This SSD has got to be ridiculously expensive... it already "ate" part of the GPU.... but I don't think it's done eating.
Not sure if serious so I would assume not. It is not like we have examples from history to go back to.
Sony could set the PS5 console at 599 and still outsell Microsoft.
Didn't they win with ps3?they did that once. spoiler, it didn’t work out well.
They lost a lot of marketshare but this would still be completely different since they also launched ps3 a year after 360. Plus they wouldn't be selling it at a $200 loss on every consoleDidn't they win with ps3?

I wouldn't spend half a grand on a gaming console for my daughter. Now I game of course so that changes things. From a non gaming parent point of few.. $499 is a lot for a video game system. If the Series X will be $499.99, then like in the past, why wouldn't people just get that?
