299 ps5 de - sony taking a loss of 150 bucks and 599 ps5 disc version .. gaining 150 bucks back
Ps5 is about 520 for sony

450 to 470 bom plus manufacturing plus shipping plus storage plus retailer cut. Around 520. For 299 sony needs to take 220$ loss . Never happening lol

Nah, its game over at $299.

$399 is still within Microsoft's sandwich strategy Penello and others laid out years ago. They have left sony in a weird position of not having the cheapest or the most powerful console. we will see how the market reacts.

Also left Sony in the weird position of having the most and the best games, but I guess consoles aren’t about the games anymore.

Even DF (the supposed experts) were saying the consoles are going to be very expensive $600+ consoles. Then XSX revealed at $499.

Nevertheless, all they do is mostly compare the technical aspects of the games, they were unlikely to have secret information about new Nvidia GPU series well before the announcement of RTX3000.
Previously, the situation was that if you wanted a graphics card with a similar power to Series X on a PC, you had to spend $600+. So no wonder they were betting a higher price for next-gen consoles.

i would say $430-450 BOM but yes, $299 is impossible. thats basically PS3 levels of loss taking which cost them all the profits they had earned from the PS1 and PS2 days. Around $3 billion in less than a year i believe.

$299 is wishful thinking just like hoping XSX would be $399. Unless of course Sony sells the DE themselves and takes the retail out of the equation which is possible seeing as how they were having users reserve the console straight with them. even then they would be taking a $150 loss per console which would be $1.5 billion in just five months of sales.

I've also seen them throw 700$ around.

What's your point?

Yeah you are right, i guess it depends on which side of the fence the insiders he mentioned actually sit... haha

Maybe that's the point though. Not $400 and not as high as $700.

So somewhere between $500 and $600?

That's what we're all already expecting anyway..

have you seen threads on era and gaf, and the general reception among journalists and youtubers? everyone loves this shit.

im not a fan of this focus on bad specs over games either. hell, i just came back from a 1 day ban over it. but im not going to pretend that at $399 sony will kill microsoft.

I would be very surprised if the PS5 doesn't hit a similar price point even after Microsoft announced their price. What I'm trying to say is that im not expecting a 200$ price difference between the two systems. Even a 100$ difference seems unlikely to me.

Well see what will happen though.

The market historically favors the platform with the best lineup regardless of power and PS5 will steal the show in that regard.

Xbox launching without a key exclusive is a massive blow.

In almost everyone of those threads and posts, what Sony’s response will be is talked about - often more than the XBox reveals themselves.

This, as should be pretty obvious, is not what Microsoft want. When Sony trends higher on the day you unveil prices and release dates for your new console, it’s clear where the mindshare is.

And the mindshare is with Sony because XBox has developed the perception that it has no games for release that are exclusive. They have to address this, or die on their arse. GamePass is not going to cut it.

Sony will respond soon. Expect game megatons.

If PS5 / PS5 DE is priced at $500 / $400 the PS5s will outsell both Xboxes combined this year.

That's what I'm expecting but take into account that Microsoft already announced the price. If Sony can go that low they will most likely price match them. Maybe even undercut the XSX with the PS5 DE if they can.

That's just overestimating the price beforehand to make the product sound very cheap once the actual price is announced. Media outlets often do that. One example that comes to mind was the Vita.

But they were saying that about both XSX and PS5.

Treyarch making use of haptic feedback and 3d audio :messenger_clapping:

And Xbox Series X will include all of that as well as 3d audio minus the haptic feedback... i can live without that one feature *shrug*

"BUT onLy soNy 1sT paRTy gAmEs wilL....."

Sony paid them a crap load of marketing money, you can pretty much guarantee Sony is standing over their shoulder right now making them do everything they can to make it appear better on PS5 haha

A $399 PS5 wouldn't kill MS but anything less for the DE and most of MS's hardware value proposition falls apart (assuming the physical is less than $499 as well).

With the inflated ~$450 BOM and XSX pricing, I don't see how anyone could genuinely think PS5 will be over $499. Even if Sony couldn't take advantage of falling NAND prices due to existing contracts, I don't see how $399 is out of reach for the physical PS5, let alone the DE.

The CUSTOM SSD and VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE are AMAZING

12 full seconds to load a save game!

Where are the people saying this was going to load faster than the PS5?

If my math is correct, this is around what, 1.2GB/s assuming they can use the whole RAM (they can't)?

After watching that loading demo between the two consoles, I have a question for someone much more knowledgeable than myself. Why does the loading timer appear to speed up after the Series S has finished loading? To my untrained eye, it looks as if the timers are going at a normal pace together, and then the One S timer noticeable speeds up after 12 seconds.

Out of curiosity I tried timing it myself and I got around 38-39 seconds when the timer for the One S was at 53. I was thinking maybe they just sped up the video so you don’t have to sit through the countdown, but it didn’t appear to me that gameplay for the Outer Worlds on the Series S side had been sped up.

Anyone might know a reason for why it appears this way? For a gamer with no tech background like myself, it gives the impression that they wanted to make the loading difference between the One S and the Series S appear greater than it actually is.
