Yet the guy above is "concerned" about the so-called Sony PR. He needs to watch the biggest downgrade in gaming history:

I mean come on at this point for the last Gen and a half there is no doubt Sony holds the graphical crown in most of their first parties, it's not even close. That's the consensus even amongst so called professionals, fanboying aside.

That anticipation of seeing those sequels running on PS5 has me so hype. I'm sure this coming Gen as well Xbox will have a couple of lookers too.

almost always the best of the gen, Xbox will finish this gen with games which looks very similar to the
version of Xbox one but you know 4k.

But what happen with Halo is just a bad joke.

I mean someone is able to explain how a game running in a PC similar to XSX looks worst than the last Halos
from almost a decade ago.

the PS5 apu is around 20% smaller so 20% cheaper. assuming the apu cost MS $150, we can assume sony will save $30 here.

the ps5 ram is 20% slower. that is a cost decision in itself since the github leaks had sony in the 500 gbps range as well. they are likely saving around $10-20 here.

the ps5 cooling solution is more expensive than it used to be but its still only a few dollars. not the $20-30 ms pays for vapor chamber cooling. Penello who seemed to have figured out the whole sandwich strategy was baffled by it on era. that was the main thing he picked up on in the bloomberg bom article, and i bet as one of the architects of the sandwich strategy he didnt anticipate sony saving $20-25 dollars on a better cooling solution. He said that they expected the ps5 to be a $399 8 tflops console and i believe sony hitting 10 tflops threw a wrench in their plans. even at 9.2 tflops they probably thought they were in the clear becuase the cooling solution must have been more expensive than theirs but if the bloomberg article is to be believed then its only a few dollars and way cheaper than vapor chamber cooling.

i think where sony got fucked is in the ssd prices. but this thing looks like it was designed to be a $399 console from the get go. that said, their ssd is a custom ssd by sony themselves so they are probably not paying any kind of royalties or pruchase surchage to samsung like MS is.

You guys are cherry picking one game (Halo Infinite) as a bad example of gimped graphics. And I agree.

expensive yes. but not by a lot. controllers are small, and very inexpensive to make. the r&d on them is far higher than the actual production. haptic triggers and fancy rumble are very small parts and would probably cost a dollar or two max.

I've heard that controller costs typically 10-20$ to make, but they sell them for 69.90 to get profit, as consoles itself may have low margin.

So even if it would be 2x more, it is still manageable without need to add more into the consoles price

It does certainly seem like a big catch. However, it's interesting that it only appears to be available for subscribers of GamevPass Ultimate and Game Pass PC. Not for the normal Game pass sub?

Also, I'd like to see more on what you actually get. Old games, I'm guessing, and not the latest and greatest that's coming this year. From an EA perspective, it's an interesting experiment for them. Lots of these games will have various micro-transactions in them. Getting a ton of new players - via Gamepass - could mean a chunk of money being made from these additional transactions.
