Cmon, its 399$.
Compared to XSX:
- Almost same performance (18%-25% delta)
- 2x faster SSD
- 100$ cheaper
- better 1st party games (2021 looks packed already)

compared to XSS:
- Almost 2.5x the performance for only 100$ more
- 4k vs. 1440p/1080p
- bigger and faster SSD (512gb vs 825gb)
- better 1st party games IMO

What do you think? IMO the PS5 DE is the sweet spot for most gamers. In the 7 yrs of PS4, I only had 1 game on disk (CoD Ghosts) which was a gift. So I will gladly go digital only. I shared all my games with a friend, so every brand new game is 30$ max. each and theres almost always some kind of sale going on. I hope Sony doesn't change account sharing with the PS5 lel.

EDIT:
From best to worst :
1. PS5 DE: 38.9 $/€ per TF
2. XSX : 41.6 $/€ per TF
3. Ps5 : 48.6 $/€ per TF
4. XSS : 75 $/€ per TF

You're going to pay more in the long run for games if you go digital. Sales on physical games go lower, happen more frequently, and happen earlier than waiting for digital game sales. If you don't care about sales or spending money on games, then picking the less expensive ps5 option shouldn't matter. It's a fool's choice if you ask me.

If you dont have a friend to share your games I fully agree. But if you do, digital is the way to go. 30$ for a new game on day 1? No-Brainer!

- no fucking disc drive
- you're forced to buy from Sony online store
- can't resell games
- can't trade games
- can't rent games
- can't buy cheaper second-hand games
- must download games - no internet connection? oopsie!

Fixed it for you.

Its too bad this is a vaporware console that Sony has made harder to aquire than a 20GB PS3. Seeing one of these is going to be like getting an eye full of Sasquatch.

This. Like you said, they go on sale more frequently, earlier and cheaper thsn digital. On top of that you can trade or sell the gake when you're done with it and roll thst into another game purchase. It is mind boggling to mr why anyone would want to be locked into digital just to save $100 initially.

It is if you're going to just buy a couple of games a year like the yearly Fifa/Madden/NBA/CoD otherwise a 100+$ with physical discs is the way to go and cheaper in the long run.

We had a thread stating that 1% of the pre-orders were the DE. Now we have this thread telling us that the DE is the way to go. Hmmmmm...

I agree but the series s needs to be cheaper by at least $50 to offer value vs the digital ps5.

Seems to barely exist. Most people will stretch the extra $100 due to lack of availability, and Sony knows it (I did) - marketing stunt, at least initially.

I'm about 50/50 with disc/digital PS4 games. I wouldn't mind a digital system but I use my Playstation as a blu ray player in my living room. So the extra $100 prevents me from having to keep my Pro (non 4k) hooked up or buying a 4k bluray player.

It hits the sweet spot for the console itself, but I'm more concerned about Digital games not cheaper than physical... especially for single player games that I tend to play.
If digital games at launch are cheaper (say around 39.99-49.99) - I would definitely go that route, even though I like physical things.

Yeah i need to buy everything at the highest price without chance of re-selling stuff, digital ftw.

On the gamestop where i go only 1% of preorder was for the digital model...

to me is not the matter of $100 more or less... so since I have gone all digital on PS4 it's a no brainer to go digital too on Ps5... and save that $100 for the pulse3d headset.

I will buy PS5 and will jump later to 4K. But I want a future proof console, that at the same time has disks for 2nd hand, BC and because they look good in my room. And well, I prefer Sony games and timed exclusives way more than the Xbox/MS stuff. So the normal PS5 is the one for me.

Damn, “sweet spot” is cringe as hell.

It is sweet spot for all digital gamers, true

To us disc hoarders PS5 is the choice. (Or xsex if they are xbox discs)

Xses is just weird, too weak AND digital only ruins it

Xses is too weak to be only console for current gen ps4 gamers to switch to, it being digital means it is shitty as 2nd system because it would be for few games only and used physicals are cheapest.

No discs means xses doesnt have real BC, so it is useless to people with og/360/one discs

Gamepass is too expensive for "I want to play these 1-5 interesting exclusives xbox have"

Xsex is too expensive to be 2nd system for those few exclusives, too expensive for BC

So casuals maybe buy xses but if average joe sees what ps5 can output, they get it

Nah. We have to do all we can to stop this slide into digital only. If we don’t buy digital only machines, it won’t happen.

Can i ask where this (upper bound) 25% is coming from exactly?

Too bad it's one of the worst designed consoles ever, massive, doesn't have Game Pass, and Sony isn't even making any of them.

Imagine buying a console where you only have one store to buy your games XD. In 2-3 years were gonna get the inevitable threads "Why is this old game still $70?!" Don't complain about prices later when you bought a console with no competing storefronts.

I do think it will be the most popular (non-Nintendo) SKU of the generation. Then when the happy buyer goes to buy a game from the online store:

Given the rumoured ratio of Digital : Disk PS5's, I think Sony would rather you bought the disk version as well.
