Microsoft acquires Zenimax/Bethesda

wow if those franchises go exclusive
I suspect people are going to be irate and pick up their pitchforks, you know cause "buying up exclusives is bad for the industry" "How dare you keep so many people from playing these games" but that's no likely what's going to happen. It'll probably be celebrations and tears of joy, cause it's not happening to them and it's coming to their piece of plastic. At least Bethesda games will be on other platforms for a few years, they still have to recoup that 7.5Billion. Also, if you really want to play these Bethesda games, IF or when, they do exclusive... a Series S is pretty damn affordable!

I’m about to cancel my PS5 preorder if I snag a Series X order tomorrow.

They keep playing with my emotions.

This is legit megaton. Far better investment than FF16 and marvel exclusive garbage
This is my plan also. I’m gonna make sure I can secure a series X first though

Sony buys timed exclusivity on Final Fantasy - "Genius move, suck it Xbox players, MS is dead and exiting the console market"

Microsoft buys Bethesda - "REEEeee Microsoft better make their own IPs multiplatform, but Sony shouldn't do the same"
Did the final fantasy news hurt you so much that you started seeing things no one said.

First of all their is no set formula that AAA IPs cost $100 million now. In fact I've heard they cost $300-$500 million now and that's before marketing costs.

However I did the math, in order for MSFT to make this money back they'd need to sell:

10 million new XSS/XSX + 25 million Game Pass subscribers
OR
21 million new XSS/XSX
OR
some other combinations.

The point is I just don't see how they ever make this money back.
They sold 40 million Xbox Ones after majorly fucking up. With the power crown and games, Xbox Series X|S should easily outsell the 360.

For most of gaming history, exclusives have been a thing. The last two generations have been pretty good to us in this regard, although Xbox One owners got hosed a couple of times. Looks like it's starting to head the other way again.

Free on gamepass
80 dollars on ps5. Screw the 70 make it 80
200.gif
make it 90 and add that final fantasy timed exclusivity clause

MS doesn't have to convince PS5 owners to switch to xbox, they have to convince them to buy an xbox as well. Or for PC owners to subscribe to Gamepass Ultimate. This is a good way to do it. It doesn't have to be an or and much as an and...

It works for me. I am going to pre order an S tomorrow. I was already planning to. But with EA and Bethesda on GP this sounds like a good deal. These are mostly games I don't want to buy for the full whack anymore and with the increased prices GP is a god send. I also have a PS5 pre-ordered but more and more I find myself having a tough time buying games separate and for a price.

Xbox asked the big bosses at Microsoft for some help and they gave them keys to the gold vault. They are not fucking around this generation.

Xbox knew they had to hit the big drum, and having Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout exclusively on Xbox is gonna be MASSIVE. Game Pass is gonna be gigantic this generation.

Has Microsoft provided the details in terms of exclusivity? I mean surely they'd clarify that all these franchises are now exclusive to Xbox. I think they're going down the gamepass route. Day one on game pass, everyone else has to pay full price per game.

Yes I was so hurt to learn that Final Fantasy won't be exclusive to PS5, despite the attempts to obfuscate on this by Sony.

By the way;

It's amazing and hilarious. 9 months of "teraflops, teraflops, teraflops" when apparently what xbox gamers really wanted to do was barely upgrade their xbox one X, and buy a subscription service.

It just goes to show how full of shit xbots are. Anything MS announce is amazing, innovative, and the future of gaming. 🙄🤣

Amazing, innovative and the future of gaming. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

They‘ll still fuck it up. All they ever seem to do is buy bigger and bigger companies to try and bail them out of the mess they get themselves into. It’ll be five years before they work out what to do with Bethesda and by then, those companies will be a shadow of their former selves — Ground down by the MS machine.

If i didnt have a gaming PC i would seriously be considering Xbox now over Playstion given those games that will inevitably be exclusive, cant imagine not being able to access a new Fallout/Elder Scrolls and Starfield

I woke up this morning, logged on GAf, sipping my coffee & reading the Xbox Pre-Order thread when someone mentions if the Bethesda acquisition was going to change minds... I'm thinking to myself "what's dis fool talking about, he must be drunk". Then I refresh the home page and OMG!!! This is a megaton, I was thinking of not preordering any next gen console but fuck that, tomorrow I'm going to do my best to snatch a XSX!

I'm so late to the news, but god damn. I'm not sure what to think yet. This is 3 times the amount they paid for Minecraft, which they went on to sell more than 100M copies (after buying it!) and tons of licensing deals and toys and stuff.

With such a massive acquisition of not only a developer, but also a publisher, I have to wonder if the endgame really is to just completely cut PS5 out. From a publishing perspective, that wouldn't make sense. But maybe MS has gone fully crazy and just paid $7.5B to buy game pass profits 10+ years from now or something...

So 10 multiplat on PS at 70$ vs XSX hardware and 1 year of gamepass to play those multiplats? Eventually every PS5 owner will own A XSX/S.

That Little S series is a white ninja. Too inexpensive not to appeal as a sidecar purchase if nothing more than for the game pass content.

I can't imagine what all is contained in the 30 pages this thread currently encompasses. This is potentially good news for the industry, though, things have been sliding downhill for Bethesda with their biggest franchises, no one can claim Fallout 76 or Elder Scrolls Online are their favorite entries of either franchise. Hopefully this means some shifting directions and since they also own Obsidian I want my Fallout New Vegas 2. If you can't handle 2-3 years from now one of these games coming out exclusive I don't know what to tell you... which franchise bugs you most? Because none of them will have a new entry for at least 2-3 years, Starfield MAYBE in 2021, if that's not enough time to save up for an XBOX or a good PC then what do you want from me? You either care about these games or you don't.

I mean, big news and all but, I don't really see this being a gamechanger for this generation. It would be one thing if the new Xbox was launching with TESVI or something, but it's not. I also don't have much confidence in Microsoft's ability to manage their studios.
