XBox Game Studios vs Sony Interactive Entertainment - Who Will Win?

I think the real issue is can the collective might of the 23 studios under XGS fight the big 4:

Guerilla(Horizon Zero Dawn), Naughty Dog(Uncharted, Last of Us), Santa Monica(God of War) and Sucker Punch(Infamous series).

It's about quality vs quantity.

My candidates from XGS:

Playground Games
The Coalition
Rare
Obsidian
Ninja Theory
Bethesda

How do you judge who 'wins' when talking about game studios?, meta scores?, consoles sold?.
In thatcase Sony will probably win as PS5 will sell more, although Microsoft releasing games on both Xbox and PC, i wouldnt be surprised if Xbox sell more software over the whole gen.

It's not even a question anymore, and we all know they're not done buying studios yet.

This is as big as buying EA or Activision, Microsoft isn't just a threat right now, they control basically 1/4 of the AAA game industry.

The amount of games they will be able to deliver is unprecedented.

ehhh MS has been doing this mostly all gen and sony sold more software than Nintendo and MS combined this entire generation. (over 1 billion) and that was before they started doing PC games as well.

Let them release a few new games under Microsoft umbrella first! We only have trailers and games they are releasing now are all old contracts and designs!

We won't know the true value until 3 years in at best and what MS wants: keep teams intact or do something more. And that'll only be wave 1.

Well if we look at what all those studios put out this gen and compare to Sony 1st party you have a very clear answer. You know unless you are only focusing on the "what if" of tomorrow. In which case there is nothing to go on and its just wishes/guesses.

Oh and who wants to prepare the Bingo card for which studios get shuttered before the end of the gen?

Sony will sell more units and put out games which will be received better by critics. Xbox will continue to add value to, and indeed grow, GamePass and there will be a lot of first party gems on there that Xbox fans love before the end of the generation. Xbox will be much better next gen than this in terms of the quality of their output. As others have said, gamers are the winners as competition will push both companies to new heights, provided Xbox can put out excellent games consistently.

Who will win in what sense? Review scores? Sales? User score?.

For me it's going to be tied. Based on the output these studios have had this gen I suspect MS will release more overall games that I like, but Sony will release the games I like more.
I don't know if it makes sense, like in 4-5 years there will have been 10 MS games I'd rate 7 or higher.... Sony is only going to have 5 but I rate all of them a 8.5 or higher.

My big "BUT" when it comes to MS is that I want to see the actual games. The studios are nice but I've yet to actually see anything that interest me come from them under MS.
Avowed sounds cool but the trailer was a short cinematic with a title screen (and The Outer Worlds was meh), Fable could be fun but it was a short cinematic with a title Screen, Starfield could be cool but all I've seen is a short cinematic with a title screen, etc.
Next gen is releasing in a couple of months and so far I've seen more tangible games (showing actual gameplay) that interest me on ps5 than Series X.

MS defiinitely have a impressive portfolio of studios and it's crazy how quickly they've grown but at this stage it's hard to be too excited because they still don't have that many games that are actually out now or coming really soon.

The only thing that we can comfortably say at this stage is that their first party output is going to significantly improve but it was in a really bad state so it could only really get better.

Sony on the other hand have been killing it for such a long time in terms of exclusives that it's hard to see them going backwards.

Either way it's an exciting time to be a gamer.

Nintendo are still king though lol

Hasn't Sony overdone the 'narrative' experience with the endless cut-scenes? Zelda BOTW is not like that and it's old 17 million copies. People just want to play the game, not watch a movie.

I don’t know about other people, but I have not had enough since I skipped the entire PS4 generation of gaming. :)
