Even w/ the boost in Gamepass subscription, they are not making up for the loss of sales for going exclusive. And honestly I wonder about the loss in sale for those games on the Xbox & PC platforms with it's availability day 1 on Gamepass. Having a game on Gamepass may not be the best for overall sales/profits.

Then why would MS, A company beholden to share holders, continue to double down on it? Ya gotta think long

I don't understand it.

If people are fans of these games, then most of these games are now having a new lease of life. It doesn't matter what box they're on, it's just amazing that Fallout, ES, Prey etc have a chance of getting revamped for the best

I can't wait for the new Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie and DKR on Xbox! -everyone in 2002

So far MS has shown to ruin studios they buy. Not sure why it would be different now.

Zenimax has a yearly net profit of around 3 billions. In a couple of 3-2 years the investment would be easily returned....
Where the fuck did you get this idiotic information? They don't even have close to this kind of yearly revenue.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Mods are alive and well for Fallout and Skyrim on XB1 not sure why you would think that would change. It was Sony that limited mod support.
I can't entirely speak for the xbox series, other then what I've seen, like the Home UI turning into ads everywhere. I never bought their consoles. But on PC, microsoft has shown their colors with windows 10 and all the fuckery that came with it, or other stuff they bought like skype

I never liked Zenimax's leadership, so hopefully this means good things for their output and less petty litigation.

As a PC gamer, this doesn't affect my life too much, but it certainly does tilt the dynamics of the MS/Sony first-party lineups in a much more balanced direction.

Of course MS has a tremendous ability to fuck up their first parties...

So, your complaint actually has nothing to do with mod support for Bethesda games then?

This is only a thought from my ass, but what are the odds this happened if Halo Infinite hadn’t been delayed?

Eh, probably not directly related. Obviously, there was likely some sort of indication internally Halo would be delayed but deals like this don't happen over night. Absolutely would give ID the lead on Halo multi-player moving forward, though.

I'm all for this. Give Jim Ryan a run for his money. The bastard's been too complacent sitting on the shoulders of giants. He wants to change a successful beloved company to fit his ideal of what a business should look like, at the expense of fans.

I want a highly competitive, exclusive games based console war going forward. Buy as many companies away from Sony as possible. Its only good for sony fans because Jim Ryan will likely drive everything into the ground if he gets a monopoly.

See above tweet where supposedly there were rumblings of this as far back as 2018.

They screwed up with rare and let bungie go. They've still done amazing things in the past.

Besides, can it get worse than Bethesda? Nahh.

Thats not what he said he said he didn’t like buying pieces of exclusive content to other games, but like everything his words got twisted.
I challenge you to show me a direct quote that says he doesn’t believe in exclusives.
OK here you go....

"Gaming is about entertainment and community and diversion and learning new stories and new perspectives, I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my specific device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about. Gaming is bigger than any one device… "

He specifically calls out devices and forcing people to buy certain systems in order to play something.

This flies in the face of that ethos. They could quite easily have just got them on board Game Pass without acquiring them and thus making the titles exclusive and retain the joint "community".

no, it's still a valid complaint given their past history. I just hope I'm proven wrong. Hell, Bethesda themselves started doing that with fallout 76

I can already see the next Microsoft event finishing with "Exclusive" and then Starfield showing up.
Huge win for PC and Xbox gamers.
All these games on Gamepass instead of the B.S 70$ 80€ 350,00R$.

Well done Phil.

In what felt like a slow gaming news year. I really went to sleep and thought I'd dreamed this earlier. Its good for gaming conversation, theres just so many angles.

Microsoft having a special Gamepass-only version of Skyrim that's optimized for the XSX/XSS would be a hell of an addition and bone to throw Microsoft customers.

Plus, to rub salt in the wound, Microsoft could put out an optimized version of Skyrim for the PS5 and charge $60 for it.
If Skyrim is backwards comp the ps4 version will do. Not like Sony let's people mod their games properly like MS does.

I wonder what the sales split was for Doom Eternal and other bethesda games this past gen. Seems they'd be cutting out well over half their potential sale base with this move and they've got a lot of sales to do if they're gonna make up 7.5B

So... Exclusive Playstation games makes financial sense for Sony. But Microsoft (and pc) exclusives doesn't make sense.

Can you elobarote how you went to that conclusion?

Just curious, I needed more salt for my food so I'm asking kindly.

Because Gamepass need to make money and it doesn’t make financial sense for a game as big as ES and Fallout to be exclusive day 1 Gamepass and PC. It’ll never make money and grab subscriptions to be worth it. That’s why they’ll release it on all consoles OR scale it down significantly OR go the MTX route.

Again taken out of context. In the original interview it’s directly in reference to getting their games on PC, phone and anywhere else that will allow thier services.

Perhaps look at the context instead of pulling just one small part of it.

Yeah and bet you gona said if GTA V become Xbox exclusive and sold like 20 million on Xbox it is more succesful compared to it being multiplat and sold 115 million copy across all platform

Fanboy logic

I know you're slow but there's a difference between a gap of 3 million from 3 million to 6 million copies, and a gap of 20 to 115 million.

If you're best rebuke is to be dumb then dumb on but you're wrong and don't know the additional costs of multiplatform releases which is why originally they weren't done as often in the past. More expensive now than then.

this is still blowing my mind. i wonder how things will change for TES and FO games?

Nothing will change. MS wont get involved unless they have to.

Day to day will be the same and Bethesda continue to publish the games. MS are there for funding, technology and of course gamepass.

Lists one studio with a catalog of flops losing money with MS giving them 500 chances and uses that to say they ruin studios?

People forget coding for multiple platforms, adding to digital store which is more effort, and disc printing are additional costs.

A 3 million selling Elder Scrolls 6 on an Xbox console would make more money than a 6 million selling Elder Scrolls 6 across Xbox/PS5/Switch/PC.

Microtransactions would be the only differentiation. They would get less than that, but would make more profit per individual sale.

There is no way for us to know that. This is pure speculation. However, if you have info to back this up it would be interesting.

This is a huge move. I'm glad Microsoft is taking aggressive steps. This signals that they are not going anywhere.... I wonder what's next.

Wow... well, at least all of Bethesda's games will still be on PC.

PC + PS5 + Switch master race endures!

Rare ruined itself, by the time MS bought them they were already falling apart and far from what they were during their golden years.

Say goodbye to the mod communities. Bethesda didn't mind so much, but Microsoft will probably try to put people in jail over it. Microsoft will turn their stuff into a monetized mess like a lot of other things they touch

What are you talking about. Xbox was the first to embrace mods on console with FO4. It was Sony that held them back/severely limited them on PS4

PC and xbox users pay for GP sub, and lets be honest, when you buy it, you won't unsubscribe after a month.

PS5 owners by the game full whack, with a massive chunk going to Microsoft.

It's a win/win for MS. Either buy their console and be rewarded with cheap games or stick to Playstation if you prefer it and you can still buy the game as normal. It won't affect Ps5 owners in the slightest.

Think about it. 120 million PS4 owners, why would you leave that money on the table just for the sake of console warrior points?

It's a clever strategy by MS. Be both publisher and console owner.

and then those teams hemmorage employees who go off to create new studios... nothing new. TBH even though those are big AAA names, I just don't care about a single one of them so, GG MS.
