Sony now warns users that others may record voice party chats on PSN

WTF? People really are trying to stir some shit up, it seems. Sony are saying OTHER PEOPLE MAY record it and send it to Sony, how is any of that Sony's fault when it comes to privacy? Someone should change the title of this thread.

Kinect situation all over again. Why the controller has a microphone in the first place, think about it.

If its about other users recording you strictly, that could have addressed since last gen. When parties already were a thing.

Microsoft forced and pushed that kinect was an obligation basically. Now we all get mics on the dualsense.

This is just a big pile on thread now. How to call up a mod?

You can never be sure that the communications provider does not record your conversations.
It does not matter if they admit it or not.

Also in that post they are only saying, that it could be, that someone else (not sony) might record your voice and report it to sony to ban you.

Read it slowly this time.

This is clearly Sony covering their backs and updating their TOS. If they ban someone who was recorded in party chat and their TOS don't say others can record you, then surely thats not legal.

Its currently trending on twitter as people are understandably upset by this change.

I saw this earlier on Twitter and was like, ewww that's creepy. I don't ever use party chat on Xbox and don't even know if they also record your conversations, but for those that DO use it, I think this is very invasive.

Edit - I see now it's not Sony doing the recording so not quite as creepy as I thought. Still, I'm glad I'm an antisocial gamer that doesn't do multiplayer or ever use voice chat as I prefer not to have ANYONE recording my conversations.

May be recorded.......AND sent to us by other users. Clever way of writing something. And we also got this gem; by particapating in voice chats you agree to your voice being recorded. So they have any rights to do however they like if you use their voice chat function.

Please be aware that voice chats in parties may be recorded

Then asking you to agree to the terms lol.
The title says Sony records. The info says users record and send to Sony. I have a news flash. If you say or post something on most chat clients it can almost always be recorded. This is also only when you are in a group chat. It's not listening in to your house.

100% this.

There is nothing preventing players involved in a multiplayer game from recording the session including party chat. This has been a thing since xbox live circa 2002.

This is standard practice. Everything is recorded.

Heck, I say PS5 at or around my GF's phone at least twice a day so her FB picks it up and sends her targetted ads.

“If you emit sound waves, in the presence of human beings who are able and willing may record said sound waves. In other news, water is wet and people still cry over stupid shit they read far too much into.”

Your phone already records everything you say and do, even if you have turned off every permision for it, so who gives a shit, there is no such thing as privacy, just the illusion of it

Well, learn from me and set parties to private whenever you have the chance. I mean like invite only.

“By. Other. Users. “

I personally don’t see any issue here. Party chats are meant to be between friends. You shouldn’t be inviting random people and saying stupid shit that can get you in trouble legally regardless.
This feature can be helpful in capturing people trying to steal data , or even worse, praying on minors.

Remember all the concerned trolling over kinect privacy?
Sony got the camera and now openly admit to recording voice chats this gen?
Wtf man?!

So, by me going school and understanding English.
PlayStation is saying that other users participating in a voice chat,
can report me and send my voice them and see if I'm violating code of conduct and not PlayStation itself that is recoding voice.

I'm ok with that, as I don't harass other players.
I can see many people misunderstand though.
Not to mention the Xbox Camp, that's going to run with the idea that PlayStation is willfully doing it and spread major FUD.

"By particapating in voice chats you agree to your voice being recorded." Why is it worded explicitly that way? Sounds like they (Sony) can do whatever they like with that disclaimer.
If you are in a voice chat with even one other person, that person could record it. So they want you to agree to that.

You really think Sony is just waiting for people to enter a party with one other user so they can turn on the record feature and listen to the two of you drone on about which fast food restaurants you like and how many times you died to "lag?"

They should have drawn a diagram in crayon for half the idiots around here.

I demand a mini game for my feeble brain.

On a more serious note, isn't this the same with streaming stuff too? Do they issue warnings when streaming from a PS? Why bother with this change when there is likely other areas of the console with the same legal issues they're not updating terms/usability for?

People should be upset that you're now forced to create a party via group messages

Fucking stupid and they need to get rid of whoever thought that was a good idea

I heard a lot of options Microsoft would have with the Kinect back then. So why would I trust a foreign company outright? I never had a Kinect for the one though. It's not really what I believe, it's how it's worded. Once you use their voice chat function, it doesn't even say you have to talk to someone else, just use the function to begin with. You forfeit any privacy rights you have as you agree that your voice will be recorded.
