Did anyone else feel the same?

Edit: Oh yeah, and now one of the main producers behind the franchise left (Yoshinori Ono), so what does that say about its future?

Add a poll.

It had the most uninspired characters to date, the gameplay felt worse than 3's and it had the worst launch of any fighter this generation. Also Capcom will never move the plot forward.

So yes, IMO barring the first horrible game (different eras) 5 was the worst one. I had more fun with EX ffs.

This comment sums up my feelings on SFV as well. I first bought the og on PS4 but I couldn't bring myself to play It and I finally caved in 2 months Ago and I'm playing CE on PC because I own every single SF ever made (I'm kind of a fanatic) but It still feels uninspired, lackluster, It has some interesting stuff but It just lacks soul. I wish they would get rid of dimps as well. The new characters are mostly boring (thought I like Zeku). I hope they can recapture the magic in later entries. Also, FA(N)G sucks balls :messenger_beaming:

Was there a reason they added so many blonde characters?

It's in my opinion the best of the franchise. The most accessible, best looking, and best cast.
I actually thought it was hideous.
Capcom usually has the best graphics but SF5 looks like complete plastic with low res backgrounds.

Compare it to Mortal Kombat 11 this generation. Huge difference.

Edit: And Mortal Kombat 11 runs on Unreal Engine 3. SFV is on Unreal Engine 4 and it looks worse than this?!?!?1

Nah the ex series was worse. Nobody really played 3 until 3rd strike and even than that was due to evo moment. People actually play sfv.

At least play the game before making any judgement ffs .

The latest Champions edition is pretty good . I spent thousand of hours in both SF4 and SFV fyi
It is a great game now and I play It daily. Wish I could find some gaffers to play It actually. I still like several of the older entries more but it's cool now

I don't agree. Art styles are completely different. I think SFV looks beautiful minus some annoying clipping. Also Street Fighter V has tits.

You on PS4 or PC? I play regularly. Also what rank are you?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I was super hyped for SF4 and ended up hating the thing. Even basic movement just felt terrible, and later iterations never changed how I felt about it. SF5... definitely an improvement, but I didn't like the mechanics. Didn't stick with it after the first couple of months. Huge improvement in aesthetics, but I just don't like what the series has become.

Best era for me was the mid-to-late 90s. Loved the Alpha games and SFIII 2nd Impact and 3s were both a lot of fun (though I don't like 3s as much as most). Hell, even SFEX1 and 2 were fun.

I'm not a fan of some gameplay choices in SFV, and I really don't like the costly multi-season MTX model in modern fighting games. For "worst generation for Street Fighter" I consider the period between SF3 and SF4 worse than SFV, because of how difficult it was to play against another human in the wake of arcades closing down (in the West), before online play really took off.
Of course Capcom vs SNK, MvC2, Project Justice etc were solid games, EX3 was okay. But Capcom Fighting Jam was a dud, along with no online option.
It was a really weird time to be a fan of that IP. Whether you like SFV or not, you can still actively compete, and it still receives updates

The whole sf4 fgc was on Xbox. Sony moneyhats capcom into making sf5 ps4 pc exclusive. Of course that will negatively impact the franchise.
You mean the 59 fps to 60 fps? I rememver that. But everything else was on ps3. So it was a weird one. Capcom for 360 or aksys, namco, examu, snk, and everything else on ps3 that was Japanese.

Ok, but there where still better stylizied fighters then. Like both Guilty Gear Xrd and Strive.

Yeah GBF shits on all the other fighters when it comes to that.

Sadly it is a DLC ridden mess. The roster is also for the most part extremely meh. (and small even after BOTH season passes)

I hate modern fighting games greed so much. But I'll still buy it eventually if they add Sandalphon. :/

In my opinion MK11 even with all that fancy "graphics", it has terrible, terrible in-game animation, its stiff and super awkward.

I would say this is the worst gen for it in the fact it went paid exclusive on ps4 and stopped a lot of people playing it. that's coming from a ps4 owner

Man, it’s hard to say. There are some good things about the game. I actually like the simplicity, and the easier links of 5. The 1 frame links in sf4 were such a chore, and really hard to land online. Five is honestly better balanced than 4 and while I 4 had more depth, option selects kinda ruined the game for me. I think I would have to say 3s generation is the worst by a country mile, it destroyed the entire genre lol.

I like Ono. I think he did some great things to bring back fighting games and revive Street Fighter - but Street Fighter V was not only ugly but poorly conceived.

I am actually encouraged about the future with Ono gone. Street Fighter needs a fresh perspective to compete with the likes of Guilty Gear and Mortal Kombat.

The mechanics are the worst part for me. I just dont like the feel of the game if yoh will, compared to SFIV. Hard tk explain, but it doesnt feel smooth. Also just the way it was released (shitty Capcom style), the ultra grinding for additional characters, the long as loads, and always online garbage.

Always online is kind of the deal breaker, particularly because ive been bounced back to the main screen while i was playing a single player match against the CPU all because either there was a momentary glitch in my internet or the servers...that kind of shit should just be a PSN pop-up notification, not "we had to kick you from a single player match cause ummm er something happened on our network"

Put it this way, ive played SFIV on PS4 100x longer/more than i have SFIV.

Are we taking console generation? If so not even close PS2 was the absolute worst for the fighting game genre. That said I do agree SFV just isn’t as much fun as SFIV which I still pickup and have fun with to this day.

Street fighter 5 is amazing, if you or anyone has a problem with it then just play something else. Mortal kombat 11 isn't as good in my opinion than 10 but so what, it happens, I don't go on about it like the morons on social media on every street fighter 5 related post etc.

Constant moaning by millenials.

Well no, I wouldn't say this is worse than the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube era in which there was no all new Street Fighter entry at all, would you?

Look, as a very, very casual fighting fan SFV delivers in what is the most important part to me, the sexy girls, that makes it leagues ahead of something like MK11 in my book.

My dream is they go back to pixel art but know this wont happen.

Indeed, why the hell has pixel art that tries to push things forward been almost entirely abandoned? Almost everything that uses pixel art these days is overly chunky stuff going for a purposely crude "retro" look, with the only exception being Wayforward but even then it's not as advanced as it could be.

I think the very last game to try to push pixel art totally forward was Scott Pilgrim vs The World, at least on consoles.
