I think the UI looks AWESOME. It's far nicer than I had thought it would be. Honestly, I thought we'd get just a kind of re-vamp of the PS4 interface. I did expect more options to be available to you without having to leave whatever game you're playing but this simply exceeded expectations in a lot of ways.
It looks to me like a lot of the things they had talked about being possible back with the PS4, got put into actual practice here. I assume that the CPU on the PS4 limited them and with the ample power they have now with Zen 2, that just isn't a problem anymore.
We need to know how much memory of the 16GB is reserved for the OS and operations of course, though it's safe to assume it will be a 'standard' 1.5GB to maybe 2GB. But we need those specifics. With the CPU the PS5 has now I don't think there will be any interference between the UI and games that are running. In fact, it looks like you can pause games pretty easily while using this. My only question here is how that might work with games that you CANNOT pause like say a Dark Souls? Will it now be FORCED to pause? Wouldn't break my heart if it did!
Love the new chat and features functionality....all there while you play and not having to exit the game to get to the features. Very nice! Looked pretty speedy as well though I'll confess, not quite as fast as I had expected. Don't get me wrong, it's still SUPER FAST. I was just thinking more like 1-2 seconds to resume a game. I totally agree. This thread needs to stay open for a bit yet. Would be a nice wrap up for people to post pics of their systems (from BOTH MS and Sony) at the end- kind of tie the whole thread up in a bow.

It does look shocking, although bit harsh as it's cross gen. Wider point is MS needs to show something next gen running on the console. Sony are running away with it in this regard right now.
Even the damn UI looks next gen!

The UI looks extremely clever, with lots of integration into the games. I can’t see me using half of the stuff myself, but if you like multiplayer gaming with lots of friends, it should suit you down to the ground.

It really seems to me Sony is always pushing innovation. From their controller to the ssd, to the UI, to terminator paste they don't do standard do they?
You got to love them for pushing the boundaries of quality and tech.
What else have they got up their sleeve i wonder?
Even as we were pretty curious about the UI, it seemed to me that they went to great lengths to actually NOT show too much of it anyway. So I think you're right on the money that these guys still keep some stuff under wraps.

I think Sony gave different outlets different exclusives. GI got Spider-man, while everyone else goes with the public media. Eurogamer appears to have had the UI. We'll probably see other outlets publish info on other games just before the PS channel publishes videos. It would give the established media a chance to each get their moment in the sun. IMO, better than feeding fly-by-night YT personalities, who don't necessarily adhere to journalistic standards. Then again, it might be considered an outmoded approach. All speculation on my part.I think Sony was more like "Oh no XSX is getting way too many articles on DF, let's give them something too". So Sony send them something because they were scared.

Well, just like the rest of the media is tending to do these days, journalists and pseudo-journalists alike use the same language and freely use terms that don't actually mean what they mean. Bottom line, lines have blurred. So just because DF puts that they're "reporting" on this does not mean they won't have opinion in it. Just have to take it for what it is and make up our own minds after viewing or reading.

Has it been clarified how PS4 to PS5 upgrades will work? I want to buy the special edition of a game on PS4, which also releases on PS5 the same day. The problem is, the special edition isn't available for PS5 (plus I kind of feel like I may as well go PS4 so it has a free upgrade anyway, two platforms for the price of one).
Does a person just pop the PS4 disc into the PS5? Or will I literally have to install it on my PS4 so it's on my account, then hook up my PS5 and download it?

8 secs on the xsex was for "quick resume". The 8 secs in this UI demo was to launch the game cold.
I haven't decided what that means yet....
I mean quick resume is saving the state of the current game and then loading the state of another.
In this demo, the PS5 is dumping one game from memory and loading another from scratch.
So it seems like you could say PS5 is doing less work than quick resume. On the other hand, all those quick resume demos on xsex were with BC games, so they may not be major memory hogs compared to quick resume between next gen native games...
So what does that all mean? I dunno! lol

Essentially you just put in the PS4 disc into the PS5, and you will get an option to upgrade your game to the PS5 version. You will be able to download the PS5 version of the game digitally, but you will need the PS4 disc to start the digital game everytime.

Yea, i mean Eurogamer as a whole is not the DF, but DF is part of Eurogamer. It's like DF is one of a division of Eurogamer.
And keep in mind that’s a MULTIPLAYER GAME. That includes match-making and server-side stuff. I’m sure it’ll be even less with a single player game.

Disc based games don't "link" to your account. You just need to put the disc in the PS5 and you can install the PS5 version of the game. Then each time you want to play the game, it will need to check the disk is available in the drive.

Ah I forgot to add one thing to my post about the UI video. We learned earlier that Sony had picked up one of Apple's UI design people from the past. Well, the more I look at the interface, the more I believe that, and that the person's influence was STRONGLY felt, if not being the lead influence on the interface. It does follow the simple, elegant kind of Apple UI design philosophy. Seems very intuitive, though we'll have to get hands on to really see if it feels that way. But very interesting stuff. I can totally see why Sony wanted to keep this under wraps until it was too late for erm..... 'a competitor' let's call them, to try and copy things and announce that they had this too.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Xbox interface is nice too. I like what I've seen of it. But this is clearly a HUGE evolutionary leap as far as Playstation UI goes. Looks to me like it's going to be great and there's clearly a lot of room for additional features in the future. Love how clean and structured it is, besides obviously, being able to get to these items without having to get out of the game.
EDIT- Oh, and we haven't even seen the expansion of functionality present in the new creation features. Just how to quickly publish a screenshot. So THAT should be interesting.

this game was use to show the graphic delta of XSX agains the current gen.
Even if you saw this game in 1440p 60 fps in current gen you will say "well looks good but I am not impress".

Remember, this isn’t switching into a normal game. This is a cold boot into a MULTIPLAYER game. So I’m sure all the server side match-making were a factor in that 8 seconds. Expect even faster in single-player.

8 seconds to switch between a running game and an online game (matchmaking). You need to dump whats in RAM, load the new game and also run the online checks. It's way more impressive than an 6 to 8 sec switch between 2 save states cached on the drive because you have to load the full game including the engine and run online checks.

Is not that reason if you only had to sent your console to journalist with a compression of technology (english speaking media)
higher than student of engineering then you probably only have like 3-5 media (NX,DF,Gamer Nexus).
We have to remember an engineer usually is making more money in its field than working as journalist at least in most of the
countries/situations.
Is okay, is fast which is important but I think this will be better if that was included in some other bigger video/event.
Btw I am impress when I saw someone capable of make a good UI because in my case everytime I had to make some work in
any kind of UI I want to died.

Yeah, I was actually surprised how much they seemed to like the UI. Not because I thought they were being biased but just...in general. I thought the UI was pretty awesome but I just didn't expect them to be so effusive in their praise.

I am not saying the people need to have an engineering level of knowledge, but at least be aware of how everything works in the systems and know how to talk about it, there are many other channels out there that would have been a better fit than the ones they chose. Most people on here have a good understanding of the basic concepts of how each of those systems work and I sure as hell don't have an engineering degree.
