I don't doubt it. People really going to drop ~$400 for a bunch of current gen ports and remasters?
lol even people that don't game have been asking me about the Ps5 since June.

Switch has way more to play.
But you just said people wouldn't buy a console over ports?

Lifetime the Switch will most probably outsell the PS5

But launch wise, I think Sony are confident they can make a lot of boxes and they should be able to sell what they make for the first year

So I expect PS5 to come out hot and be th big ticket item this Christmas
Way too early to call. The Switch is a beast right now, but Nintendo systems tend to have sharp sales declines compared to Playstations, and most of their major system sellers have already been released.

I don't see Switch beating the PS4, so if the PS5 does as well as it's predecessor...

We also don't know when Nintendo will be releasing a 9th gen console. There's no reason they'd have to wait until halfway through the generation again, since there's no WiiU like failure that requires a do over system, so a Switch 2 in 2022 would absolutely kill off Switch sales.

Note that I'm not arguing it doesn't deserve to sell me. The Switch is easily my favourite 8th gen system, and I'd be delighted if it ends up well north of 100m units sold. Just using passed precedent as a means of setting expectations.

Let's not forget, 3 out of 4 Playstations have topped 100m, while only one Nintendo console has ever managed it.

It's no suprise, there are more dumb people than intelligent people and people have low standards for game quality. People like the same old recycled shit with low poly counts and blurry textures for some reason. And there is the whole limited supply issue with the new consoles.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand why you should buy a PS5 or Series X...

Lads, the next gen consoles will sell just fine. PS5 will more than likely sell more than PS4. If it doesn't though then thats alright too.

If Switch sells more than both over the holiday season then that doesn't mean your new console is a pile of junk or anything like that. It's a new console! Enjoy it!

Your purchases are valid. YOU are still valid. Even if you only own the 2nd or 3rd best selling console, its fine!

Haha. Damn Nintendo fanboys enjoying their Zeldas and Marios and low poly PS2 graphics Pokemons that don't even look good on Daddy's big TV. Don't they know that the bestest newest games are on next Gen with Raymond Tracing and 60 flips per second and 4kgs of pixels!

Love threads like this. All these wee fannies taking the huff because some product sold more than their preferred product.

Think I might spend 60 bucks on low res, jaggy ass, Wii u port of Pikmin 3 and enjoy the hell out of it to celebrate. :)

It is of course too early to call, but I do feel the PS5 wont match the PS4 mainly because Next gens entry fee is higher and games are also getting a price hike and they have actual competition now(PS4 had the Wii U and Xbox one against it)

I feel the Switch will beat the PS4, they have had a second unofficial launch with Animal Crossing really and BOTW 2 will be the biggest game of '21

It is really up to Nintendo, as you say if they tail it off as is their tradition then it is gonna be around 100 million tops but if they revise it with a beefed up version and go all in with a new Mario Kart and let's say Mario 3D platformer to compliment BOTW 2 then I see it hitting 130 to 150 million

A bullish prediction of course, but it's fun to speculate 😂😂

With brand recognition alone PS5 is going to sell over 100m.

Their roster of exclusives is so strong that they will easily shift consoles with those as part of bundles.

I dunno why people get wound up about this stuff. Switch is selling like crazy. PS5 will sell like crazy.

I sometimes imagine that folks are looking at their PlayStation under the TV and saying "someone online says the Switch is better than you but I will defend your honor to my last breath! Stupid Animal Crossing grumble grumble not even a proper game grumble grumble boring and for kids and horrible graphics grumble."

Who really cares which sold more? These threads are only good for laughing at dummies who get upset when something they don't like becomes super popular.

Shit, there are games out there with more than 100 million players that I've never even touched.

Switch is supply constrained as well so it’s hard to say. The “winner“ of the holiday will be the one who was able to produce the most units since they will all be sold out.

I do acknowledge that if there were no supply constraints for any of the consoles Switch would easily outsell the PS5 and XSX this holiday. If the Pro comes out next year then I would expect the same for 2021 as well.

says GAF is a racist board but still wants to be a part of it...
How this is even a surprise.

I can see the Switch going after those impossible 2009 Wii numbers .

Fuck yes it will, I can smell the salt coming and it's going to be glorious. We're catching glimpses of it already ITT.
Nintendo fan's console warring aside, I assume the switch will mostly sell the most because people aren't prepared for a 500 dollar console.

Wouldn't be surprising at all. It will probably also beat both Ps5 and Series X/S in total lifetime sales.

At this point Nintendo could probably release an upres of Mario Galaxy 2 for $60 and it would probably outsell all Ps5/Series X launch games combined.

Does Switch even have any games coming out this season? I haven't heard anything.
Other than Hyrule warriors not really.
Not like it needs it though

They dropped $300 for Breath of the Wild which was just a current gen port. It continued to do well with tons of other Wii U ports.

Nintendo's bringing the holiday trifecta of Mario (3D All-Stars), Zelda (Age of Calamity) and Mario Kart (Home Circuit). Meanwhile Switch sales were on fire already and next-gen consoles will struggle to meet demand for a while.

There are probably more obvious predictions that could be made, but none are coming to mind.

Of course not. This isn't console wars, just the facts of their supply chain. The real "battleground" where things will get interesting will be next holiday.

Its not hard when both PS5 and XSX are supply restricted and sold out of pre orders
Doesn't matter at the end, PS4 and XBO had all of those years before Switch and yet none of them managed to ship more hardware in a single quarter than Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch is also limited by shortage right now.

Nintendo Switch is on another tier.
No price drop, no free games promotion, and boom fastest selling hardware again.

Will it really be interesting though?

Is any sensible person here expecting next gen to be anything other that PS way out in front followed by Nintendo and then followed by Xbox?

The main issue here seems to be people getting their panties in a bunch at the suggestion that an "underpowered" or "casual" console might challenge their newest purchase in terms of units sold.

People seem to rise to the bait every time too. Yeah, Nintendos handheld stuff is selling well again. That's normal.

Its like people take it personally when they find out that their new console might not be the best selling thing in the world and *gasp* there might even be people out there who don't give a fuck and would rather have what Nintendo offers.

This gen will go the same as last. PS5 will sell loads of units. XBox will struggle to keep up. In 2023 Nintendo will announce their new thing and that will either be a weird flopping disaster like the Wii U or a unit selling monster that will have people crying about underpowered games and hardware all over again.

I wouldn't think so..

Ssd thing is with the Switch is with the correct software they could have dominated this holiday.

It's possible they still will but imagine they released Mario Kart 9 instead of... That thing they choose to make.

What?? An existing console with plentiful supply is going to outsell two brand new consoles with limited quantities?

They 100% will dominate the holiday even without MK9.

Nintendo Switch biggest enemy in this holiday is the hardware stock and not PS5/XSX.

108K in this week alone in Japan without any notable release, just imagined when holiday season hits with inevitable MK8D bundled and this time with monstrous ACNH and RFA impact.

Nintendo Switch is struggling with the stock in Japan and yet sold nearly 110K in this week while PS4 and XBO stock is readily available and only managed to sell ~4K hardware in this week combined.

Perhaps I'm underthinking this.

That damn system is unstoppable. Here's hoping for a better next year though.

The Switch doesn't have a 2D Mario game to swing those kind of numbers, but with COVID, who knows. Everything sells these days.
Animal Crossing - Fastest selling exclusive of all times
RFA - Monstrous leg
Age Of Calamity - New Shit
MK8D - Gigantic leg and bundled promotion
BOTW - evergreen
Smash Bros Ultimate - evergreen

Nintendo reportedly increase the production from 22M to 30M in the FY.

Please expecting monstrous sales and record breaking sales for Nintendo Switch in this holiday.

You're comparing a brand new 2D Mario to one new spinoff game and a bunch games that, while they have legs, are already out? Okay ...

I'm comparing it to
-Animal Crossing NH that will sell ~6M in Q3
-MK8D that will sell ~4M in Q3
-RFA that will sell ~1.5M in Q3
-Age Of Calamity that will sell ~3.5M in Q3
-BOTW and Smash Ultimate that will sell ~4M combined in Q3
-SMP and SMO that will sell ~3M combined in Q3

Nintendo big hitters in this holiday season.

Super Mario 3D all-stars
Age Of Calamity
Animal Crossing NH
RFA
MK8D
BOTW
Smash Ultimate
Pokemon SwSh
SMO

Come on, that's every big game the system has had from the beginning. I was asking about NEW games, which I guess the answer is Hyrule Warriors.

While the conclusion may or may not be true, the article is horrible, Forbes should be embarrassed. The article doesn't even say how many units are expected to sell out of any of the 3 companies. How can you say one is going to outsell another if you have no clue what the actual numbers on hand will be.

So you're basically predicting Nintendo is going to set a literal record for sales this holiday season on the backs of 1 new spinoff game and several games that have been out for awhile, some for years. What's your basis for these numbers?
