Who says you need to finish it as fast as possible? take your time and enjoy the game. I myself takes me while to finish a game but I'm able to fully enjoy the game, I'm in no hurry to finish the game as soon as possible.
Like I said, " I'd rather play through and finish 4 different games/experiences" than one 120 hour game. I have a pretty big backlog, with even more games on the ol' wishlist I want to go through.

The mass effect trilogy doesn't hold up today from a gameplay/mechanic/and animation standpoint making them nigh unplayable now despite their good writing.

Mass Effect has good lore & world building (although it does borderline plagiarize some other science fiction stuff out there, i.e. hello Farscape), but I wouldn't call the writing "good". Shepard uttering shit like "on the double mister!" still hurts my ears.

If they're going to rerelease the games with the rumoured "Legendary Edition", they need to fix a whole load of stuff (including the animations & clunky gunplay) or else its going to have critical problems.

Yeah man I was trying to reply ME2 recently cause if you had asked me when I was a kid, I would've told you it was easily one of my favorite games of all time. And I remember liking it a lot when I revisited it in middle school. But I hadn't placed it since then and ooooh man. Yikes. I think I got up to where you recruit Mordin, who was the first guy I went for actually. It's just.... man its hard to get into it.

honestly gaming is so fucking un-pure compared to how it used to be. like ya know what I mean? I don't mean to knock on big current games. I mean shit, I love a lot of PlayStation exclusives and stuff.. also love red dead 2... but like I feel like the great gems I love are so fucking rare because gaming has become so big to a fault. like with the streamer culture and stuff. gaming is now a "cool thing to do." rather than how it used to be a niche type of "nerdy thing" to do. like the ps3 and 360 era, before that as well.. i feel the games and stuff were just so pure.. but now a days it's so formulaic and commercialized. like legit almost every multiplayer just has the same battlepass bs. like what happened to multiplayer games that had inherit replayability based on fun gameplay and didn't need all these nonsense updates? it's pathetic.

and then so many single player games rarely take risks and just follow the same ass formula like consume consumer consumer like fuck.

tldr: gaming isn't as pure as it used to be the popularity of it is ruining it

Music in gaming is absurdly overrated around here.
Mate what it's the other way around most people including reviewers are not consciously aware of how important the OST of any game is, low-key affecting their rating or experience significantly.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a very good game.
My face is tired.

Indeed son. There are still pure games though like Sekiro or as you said Sony games.

I literally can't even at this comment. Everything Andromeda does, it does badly. There's no '"good' in there, just a bloated, badly written, incoherent mess with absolutely shit third person combat which doesn't know whether it should be a tactical linear cover shooter or an arena shooter & fails at both.

Music in gaming is absurdly overrated around here.

I fucking hate Morgana in Persona 5. That little shit keeps telling me when to go to bed. Maybe as the game goes on they'll do what Teddy did in P4 and become more interesting (no spoilers please) but until that day comes i fucking HATE this cat! Also.

I know in Japan they use women to do the voices for young boys in anime. Goku and co being a good example. This must be why a woman is clearly voicing Morgana, even though the game insists they're a boy. That shouldn't have happened, it's really jarring and immersion vapourizing.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a very good game.

Please sell it to me a bit, I'll try it if it sounds good, I've been waiting for a reason to try it.

I can seriously say that it's one of the best games I've played this gen, and the combat is so satisfying and funny as well. Graphics are pretty good. I got it like 1 year later for $20, and still has some bugs but nothing that you can't ignore. I love space and that galaxy music is just wonderful.

Never played any previous Mass Effect game, so I think most of whom played the previous ones are the ones vocal about how bad this one is.

Story was ok, nothing great, but not necessarily bad. I really wanted DLC's, sadly it's been killed. Gameplay is so satisfying.

EDIT: Forgot to say the sound effects are wonderful, like most EA games.

I recently replayed through Dino Crisis 1 & 2. People asking that Capcom remake this franchise and bring it back are wasting their time and I'm not surprised Capcom dumped the IP. The franchise as a whole is utter trash, not just DC3, the first 2 were just as bad and in many ways were worst. Yes, DC3 was actually the most interesting game in the franchise.

People looking for a 90's era Resident Evil knock off to be remade should look to Deep Fear. That game actually has gameplay mechanics that could be developed on and make a really cool, original game rather than "HURR DURR DINOSAURS COOL!!!".

I agree for the general sentiment, but it's something that's being said since the PS1 days ("Sony made it all mainstream and crap!").
And that's true, to a degree, but I feel it's not a completely honest opinion to give to this specific generation, given the resurgence of AA games, Japanese niche titles (seriously, 428: Shibuya Scramble and 13 Sentinels would have never saw the light of day here in the previous gen) and overrall more creative titles.

Late 360/PS3 gen was mostly crap though, and I have a bad feeling for next-gen.
But the current one? *french chef kiss*

I'll do it. I replayed mass effect recently and didn't think it was so great anyway, so i think a fresh take on the whole thing might actually really catch fire for me. Cool!

If I have to put it in a ranking, it'll be inside my best 10 games this gen, it's that high to me. If you have a passion for space, it'll be a very wonderful experience, especially that the graphics do give you creepy feelings and make you believe you are actually on a foreign planet/galaxy.

  • DUSK is one the best FPS games to come in the past 20 years.
  • Spider-Man web of shadows is an criminally underrated game and easily the best Spider-Man game (I don't own a PS4 so I haven't played the new one).
  • Twisted Metal 2 and Black are insanely good games that deserve the remaster treatment with online included.
  • Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 7 are the best fighting games ever made.
  • Reality makes for a poor game mechanics.
  • Skyrim with mods is the best fantasy RPG experience ever.
  • Some people ruined gaming by praising and buying games that just dump poorly written exposition on you every 15 min and call it a "good story" while the game mechanics itself are total garbage.
  • Game mechanics > music > graphics > story > everything else
  • GTA games are extremely unappealing to me.
  • Quake 1 deserves the DOOM 2016 treatment.

RE7 could be named with a different IP name and wouldn't be critically acclaimed as it was

I think people disappointed by P.T. being dead, and Capcom reviving it as a Resident Evil "return to roots" game, played into the hype.

Capcom knew what people wanted, and they knew how to stir the hype machine, resulting in people praising one of the most mediocre horror games as the best the genre has to offer.

Final Fantasy IX > Final Famtasy VII

Almost everything about IX is imo better than VII.

For one, the setting and graphics are gorgeous. Everything from the traffic if airships seen in and around towns to the more bizarre architecture in some places really stand out. There's so many strange npcs with big tongues and hippo people.

One thing I didn't like about VII was how there's so many green everywhere. I get it's to emphasize Shinra and the Lifestream but still.

As far as lore goes, I definitely prefer FFIX. I love how there's multiple worlds.

The story is not the best and I'd say that aspect is slightly better than VII. I'm not a big fan of the recurring "cycle of souls" theme so many FF games have. Also I feel FFIX is too similar to FFV but I'm sort of okay with that as FFV is one of my favorite FF stories.

One complaint here....

I love Necron but honest wish this would have been fleshed out more. Some things don't make sense like the whole Zero World. How is it Necron wants everything to be sucked into the Zero World but he wants everything completely annihilated?

Characters might be the only thing that I would say doesn't exceed VII. Kuja is no Sephiroth. Tbh I liked Garland better.

Anyways I was going to make a full thread on this but figured it may not have been worth being a full thread dedicated to it.

Don't get me wrong, I like FF VII.

In fact, I think I mentioned in this same thread that I really like Dirge of Cerberus, which everyone else besides me, hates.

But my complaints even seem to spill over to Remake from what I've seen in the LPs.

The more I think about it, the less I'm excited for the new consoles. To me, Series X is gonna be my NHL and Madden machine... and maybe Halo. Theres few games I can think of that I wouldnt rather play on my PC.

I'm not even that interested in gamepass. I'll just buy what I want to play and that's that. I'm more likely just to dig through my older titles this generation and maybe pick up one or two new non sports games a year. Ultimately the industry moves too quickly for me and I cant be bothered to keep up with it on more than a casual level.

Shame really.

I'm with you.

For perspective, I never cared or liked Nintendo after the SNES. The Switch is the first time I cared and my first Nintendo console since SNES (I'm not counting the DS or other strictly portable Nintendo devices)

I love the Switch. While I would still like to own a PS5 or new Xbox, they don't really interest me much anymore. Demon's Souls remake, Halo Infinite and potential sequels to DMC, Silent Hill and Darksiders are a the only things I care about.

The reason? Combination of being much older, the growing "woke" themes infesting western games and maybe the biggest reason for me, most games requiring or "highly recommending" day one patches/the reliance of having Internet to play or update.

This!
Also, most open world is shit. I just want to play GAMES, not run around for hours and do chores.
Give me an immediate challenge. I don't want to find shit to do.

Are people really so bored with their real life that they need to run around in fantasy landscapes to do the same shit in them as in real life?

This is all retarded.

Thanks for Indie games, though. They keep the real gaming alive.

Yeah I'm much more interested in exploring what I missed on PS2 and 360 in the upcoming years. Seems like I'll get more bang for my buck too. Time will tell
PS2 I consider to be the best of all the consoles. There's probably at least a couple dozen games I'd love to play that I haven't yet.

PS2 is amazing. People sleep on 360 though. It may even be one I enjoy more than PS2. So many awesome gems I've found that nobody seems to be seeking out or talking about. Just as much diversity and quality as ps2 but with none of the accolades. In time, maybe
