Both were rather disappointing but at least 13 Sentinels has a better story. Gameplay in both sucks. If you can enjoy visual novels then 13 Sentinels is probably the better choice.

Trust me, when I say 13 Sentinels is good, it's really good. The last time I got hooked to these characters was probably... Persona 4.

I love the whole Sakura Wars series and the new one is good too, but even I would pick 13 Sentinels over it. Amazing game, an amazing story. Best gaming story of the year for me by far. A game I was so glad I got the platinum for. What a ride!

Easily 13 Sentinals, SEGA couldent be arsed to even voice act the whole game, even worse they couldent be arsed to make sure whole scenes where voice acted, you switch back between voice acted and Phoenix Wright style *blip blip blip* text and back to voice acting multiple times within the same scene.

It got so bad at one point during what was supposed to be an emotional scene I just put the controller down turned it off and never played it again.

I platinumed 13 sentinals on the other hand.

I don't really have an answer since I haven't played 13 Sentinels but I really enjoyed Sakura Wars.

The biggest problem with Sakura Wars was the actual combat portions. Generally felt long, tedious, and just kinda got in the way of the plot and waifu action.

Finished both, while I enjoyed Sakura, both the story and the gameplay segments are much better in Aegis. Sakura lacked depth and is much more traditional in both its story and the way it is told. Also I enjoyed the strategy element in Aegis more than I did the combat in Sakura, which was a bit repetetive and lacked options for upgrades and customization.

13 Sentinels is excellent. I was a reluctant purchase since I find most story focused games a weaker experience than just reading a book, but I bought it anyway because I like Vanillaware games. The way they craft the story into these 10 minute chunks that rarely waste any words and constantly reveal new info was amazing. It only works because it trusts the player/viewer to connect the dots themselves.

Usually i will support vanillaware but 13 sentinels gameplay is just not for me lol. I might try it if i still have my ps vita though.

I haven't played Sakura Wars, but I can tell you that 13 Sentinels is worth the buy. The people that say the combat looks boring haven't played the game, so don't listen to those types.

It's up there with FF7: Remake for GOTY 2020, in my opinion.
