Anyone else grab the Mario Bros Game & Watch?

Despite the mad scramble to find them (even though it's been available on Amazon for a while), it's just kinda wild to me to spend $50 to play a 35 year old game that I've been able to play portably for 20 years on mostly better hardware.

If it leaned more into the "clock" aspect that also happened to play Super Mario Bros, I would probably be more interested.

As it stands, it's like a $20 stocking stuffer to me and not really worth $50.

Exactly. You could get a much cooler game (or clock even) for $50.

To be honest I was let down at first. The games run well and the screen is very good but mine looks like it is very worn out of the box. The sides look very scuffed going up both the left and right of the unit. I took it apart to toy around with it and it seems very repairable. The battery is a joy con style battery the screen is an Innolux zj024na-17a. In the end I really like it now. Guess I just needed to get over the imperfections.

I got disappointed by it specifically for the price its selling here (55€)
construction feels very cheap and light, only good thing is the screen and cross pad.
package is nice. this thing is more a collectionist item than anything else. but wish it could be 20€ less...

yeah it is actually really nice hardware, but i used it as a clock for a few hours then forgot i owned it until seeing this thread.

Think my wife got me one of these for Christmas, anybody have a link to a stand and a flush power cable I can get? Want to use it as a clock in my game room.

Think it's safe to leave plugged in and on 24/7 to use as a clock?

I have had mine plugged in running 24/7 since release and it seems perfectly fine i'm powering it via a usb port on my tv with no ill effects to either even when the tv is on standby it's still powering it fine.

i bought this usb cable as i liked the look i only got the 1m length one as thats exactly the length from my tvs usb port to the place where i had it sat. Not sure what region you are in but im sure there will be something similar on your amazon

As for stands i got a nice cool looking one off this guy on ebay. but there's a lot of simple stands out there if you search ebay on acrylic stands or on amazon you will find a lot you can use. I got this one off ebay as it was made especially to match the G&W the seller is currently out of them but he keeps making more in batches.

I think it looks great, but I don't want it. I think it needed to have all the classic NES Mario games for me to want it.

Had a quick go. Tiny screen isn't suited to precise plaftorming. Nice little gadget though, but I could take or leave it. Will hang onto it for a while, if its of any value I'll flog it.

My Target finally put them out today so I snagged one. Cool little device, totally forgot it has SMB2 on it. Made a dirty kickstand from a binder clip and it's chilling by my tv as a clock right now.

I ended up buying one on impulse when I saw it at GameStop. I may return it, I haven't opened it.

I was going to buy one but $50 seems too much for what it is. I have a feeling they may at least go on sale for $40 or less before March . If they do , I'll bite on one. If not , no big loss. I almost bit at the PS classic for $30 only to be patient and end up getting it for $15. I'll wait this out lol.

Got one and the build quality seems really nice on it. A very slick piece of kit. I wish it had some sort of stand to use it as a clock though, would make a nice desk decoration.

I'd like to think so but I doubt it. They already had the Ball Game & Watch game remade for the previous Japan Club Nintendo machine. They didn't do anything for the Mario Game & Watch games. Seemingly using a slightly modified Club Nintendo release mold.

I'd love a Zelda dual screen Game and Watch. Always wondered why they never released Game & Watch remakes on 3DS eShop.

So much of Nintendo's back catalog has been lost to time and aging hardware. There are a ton of thingsI'd buy.

They do have a ton of G&W remakes on the 3DS shop as DSiWare. These aren't the "game and watch gallery" versions (some of those are available as well) but more legit accurate to the original LCD versions. Not as good as the real thing, but likely the closest we'll ever get that can just "easily be bought" and they are pretty cheap. I've got a couple, but thinking I will just round out the set as I really love this stuff.

I knew about the Game & Watch Gallery GB collections but was unaware of the DSi releases. Those are exactly what I was describing. Shame they haven't ported them over to Switch. A lot of great games lost with the Wii and DSi shop closures.

I notice @ 3:33 Am and pm Mario gets a fire flower, has anyone seen the power up last more than 10 mins? I've seen it last around 6 I think lol

Here is what's infuriating about all of those rereleases. None of them include the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch. Remember? One of the best ones that was extremely clever and actually has stages to complete? "Oh, whoops, instead we made a standalone product with an identical name that still doesn't include that G&W, here's the two NES games you have on every other device we've made in the past decade or so."

Never mind the fact that the only actual G&W on the thing is BALL. Man, Ball isn't even that good! And they give it a Mario head. Oh that's cute, it's Mario-ified. Except that there already IS a Mario-ified version of Ball: it's called MARIO THE JUGGLER! It was the last of the original G&W games, probably one of the hardest to find, has never been rereleased, and actually has a bunch of timeless references to the Mario IP and some gameplay tweaks. WHY just lazily rerelease Ball that, again, is not a very good game?
It's just a completely mystifying way for Nintendo to milk their history while also ignoring it. It was like the thing was designed by someone who didn't even know about the SMB G&W (surely one of their best sellers) or Mario the Juggler (only slightly more understandable) but wanted to pay homage to the concept...? Every time I think about it I get upset all over again and refuse to buy the thing.

I'm with you, it is a bummer that they've kind of got the bottom-of-the-barrel G&W selections here for the most part, but it is what it is (could just as well be nothing). And they are priced at a pittance each, so it's hard to feel burned for tossing a couple of bucks to scoop them up if you are any kind of a buff about pre-NES Nintendo history. I think overall, the thing that saves it from being a complete bummer is that there are a couple of legit fun games in there (DKJR, Mario Cement) that keep it from feeling like a complete waste of time, haha. Otherwise, interesting to pick up as a curiousity, and while they are kind of even more removed, the Gallery Ports are still fun/cheap enough to be worthwhile.

But overall YES. It is a damned drag that they don't have the ACTUAL Super Mario Bros G&W in there, and the likes of Zelda or other more "advanced/late stage" games to check out. I've actually never got to play either of those and would love to! Ah well, perhaps some day when I am flush with case (ummm..) I'll just plunk down and pick them up.

Ya, but it's got the mario drawing song!

Thanks for this post, mate (y). I had no idea that the DSiWare Game & Watch titles existed. I'm playing Donkey Kong Jr on my DSi XL right now. Good times.
