Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury - New Trailer

I don't understand what Bowser's Fury is supposed to be. Is it a large open level that culminates in awakening Bowser? Does he periodically rampage around? I don't get it.
From what I understand: you're in a large open ended level with self contained platforming challenges. You have to grab cat shines to clean up the black gunk that covers the top of lighthouses. My guess is that once you do so the parts of the map that are covered in black goo get "cleaned up" and you unlock other parts of the map just like in Sunshine. There also seems to be a time limit system of some kind where death metal Bowser or whatever awakens after some time and then you have to run back to a temple to grab a super cat bell that turns you into SSJ cat Mario and you engage in a Kaiju battle with Giga Edgy Bowser 3000.

Basically it's fucking awesome.

How does this look so different to the average 3D World gameplay footage? New camera angle less overhead and more in line with Galaxy/Odyssey or what? Or is that just for the new area that dark Bowser appears in?

The structure is completely different, it's not a level based linear game like 3D World but a collectathon like Sunshine or Odyssey. They've added new moves like the dive or Plessie's dash, and there's also Bowser Jr that follows you around and assists you, might even be playable. And of course you don't fight against a tens tories tall building sized Bowser in 3D World.

So, it's just for the new area and the rest of the game is presented as it was?

I love that Nintendo went nuts with this. Heavy metal demon Bowser! Kaiju battles!

I wasn't a fan of 3D World itself, so I'm probably out for this expansion. Only caution I would offer to those planning to get it is so far we only seem to have seen one (very large) level. If you've played the rest of the game, there may not be much here to justify the price. I'm sure more details will be forthcoming, though.

It's a separate game from 3D World, think Xenoblade 2 and Torna The Golden Country.
So why's it called 3D World + Bowser's Fury like it's the original 3D World + some stuff? Why not just call it Super Mario Bowser's Fury or something if it's not really related to 3D World?

Because it's two games on one disc. EDIT: cartridge I mean, lol

WOW this looks AWESOME !

3D World was already my favorite Mario EVER with Galaxy series and with this... WOW !

I don't really know what it's all about this Bowser's Fury mode/addon/whatever but:

*please don't be online* *please don't be online* *please don't be online*

Ya I'm confused too. The footage here looks miles better than 3D world was.

I wonder how long this expansion actually is?

Anyway see this is what I'm taking about. You basically have a port of a last gen with extra meaningful content and now I think you can justify paying full price for it again.

Just this and mario kart 8. The rest of the remasters lack any effort.

About online, have they mentioned 3D world having an online mode? The ghost modes and miiverse stuff was nice but really could have used a online option

Oh wow, this looks awesome. Will probably get it for my wife.

Mario 3D World is such an awesome game, easily one of the best Mario titles. Switch owners who have never played 3D World are in for a treat.

But yeah this looks absolutely fantastic. It seems like throughout the DLC the more items you collect (maybe based on a timer?) Bowser will wake up and transform the levels with extra challenges at what not. The final bits of the trailer put a huge smile on my face. Just oozes quality.

This is totally going to be Nintendo's take on Dark Souls in the Mario universe isn't it? I'm not even kidding. :messenger_fearful:

I'm just saying it's surprising that this far into the systems life there are so many ports rather than original content.
Their strategy seems to have been to spread out the ports to plug gaps. Near the beginning the ports were mostly just old content (such as Tropical Freeze or Hyrule Warriors). And for these later ones they've added original content to the ports (such as Pikmin 3 and 3D World)

Smooth as hell. As usual, it’s incredible how creative Nintendo can get with such technically simple graphics.

PUSSJ Mario surely means Goku is coming to Smash next, right? 🧠

Looks to be single-player only though for this Bowser's Fury game. Hopefully Mario is given his triple jump back, he is majorly nerfed in this game! And get rid of Y-to-Run, that's why we have invented analog sticks.

Okay super fans of SM3DW, answer me this:

Should I just be holding run basically all the time? I found long jumping to be completely useless unless I'm running at full speed when I do it, but thats awkward as fuck holding Y with the tip of my thumb, then tapping the trigger to crouch and then pressing B with the middle part of my thumb while still holding run.

Is long jumping just not necessary in the game really? I didn't find a bit where I needed to do it or anything but its feels rubbish to me to not be able to speed through the level long jumping, especially when I have to repeat the levels just to take a 2nd path so half my time in the level is just getting back to that point.

I know the Switch version has sped up the characters movement but I presume that running is still a manual button press? It just never felt right to me and I really wanted to get into it. I got about 80 stars and stopped due to the controls and the level timer, my experience with the timer was I would play the level and try to scour it and run out of time or speed through it worrying about the time and then miss loads of stuff, I found the timer made me play it in a way I didn't want to.

Should I just be playing it in coop really? I can see how having 2-4 people would mean you can clear every nook and cranny much faster.

I put it down when this was announced because I wanted to give it another shot on a console where I can actually play coop but the great thing about having seen this trailer is that even if I still don't get on with the main game that this DLC looks much more like what I want in a Mario game anyway.

Wow this looks gorgeous! Probably they've been working on this in wiiU days, some DLC stuff I guess, and the project has been shelved since then (for obvious reasons).

Can't wait to play this awesomeness.

I can't really comment on the controls because I thought they felt fantastic. I don't run all the time but I definitely am holding down the run button the majority of the time. Also, as I'm sure you know, the characters control differently, some levels are better suited for Luigi, Peach, etc.

As for playing multiplayer. It's an absolute blast with 2 people, if you have a partner/spouse I highly recommend playing 2 player with them. I've played with 4 and it's fun but super chaotic. I think it'd be hard to do a serious run with 4 people, unless everyone was taking it serious and not getting distracted by everything going on.

Bowser's Fury is a new mode that is added to Super Mario 3D World's Nintendo Switch remake Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Not much is known about this mode, but it is known that it will take place at night with a dark theme. Its most prominent feature is a black cat bell on an island that is surrounded by several more islands in a spooky, rainy setting. The trailer for it has the camera pass over one of those other islands before stopping at the aforementioned island with the black cat bell.

Super Mario 3d Windwaker confirmed.

So, for the third time, the 3D World part is presented as it was (and nothing like this video?)?
I think you're asking questions that people don't have answers to. I'll make an attempt though.

I would imagine that the visuals will look slightly better on the Switch. We also know for certain (i think), that the movement speed has been increased 30% and that the movements itself are fully 360, in the Wii U game they're locked to 8 directions. That's what I'm curious about, the full 360. Locking it to 8 directions sounds bad on paper but the controls are fan-effing-tastic in 3D World for the Wii U. I honestly think that full 360 might be a hinderance with how some of the levels are laid out.

It's still gonna be a great game regardless because 3D World is an awesome game, and I say that as someone who generally doesn't get excited over Nintendo releases. (I am an admitted Wii U fanboy though, ha).

You should play it co-op. SM3DW is one of the best co-op games ever. It's way more fun to try to get everything the game offers that way.

This looks great. I liked 3D World, but not as much as the "real" 3D games like Galaxy and Odyssey. Bowser's Fury looks like a good middle grpund.

This and Galaxy 1 are still the best (3D at least) Mario games overall.

That new Bowser design is wicked, kinda wish they woulda just saved it for the next major Mario game. Feels a bit like they're blowing their load using it just for this (small?) mode.

I hope the next Mario is truly open world. Odyssey woulda been better if it was I think, I think the ship made the game more tedious than it needed to be.

I think SMO coulda been more like BOTW and BOTW more like Odyssey.
